Today again one of those days when you just wouldn't go down to the valley. Since I had transport secured, I didn't think at all and we were already rushing towards Logar Valley, first goal Okrešelj. I didn't really have a plan; the group I joined decided for Turska gora, so we separated at the top of Turski žleb. I continued to Koroška, Štajerska and Mala Rinka and as I already mentioned, I didn't feel like going to the valley, so I extended to Turska gora, which was already deserted as everyone had returned to the valley . Views fairytale-like, conditions not very promising given the crazy temperatures, so the wind today was more than welcome. On Rinke it was quite mushy underfoot, Turska gora seemed a bit better for walking, as for the gully, there are steps anyway, snow is soft, well, somewhat harder in places and dry in places (this doesn't mean you don't need winter gear!) There were quite a lot of people today, hut at Okrešelj open, food great, well-deserved radler even better, hehe. Funny, but the "most" dangerous then seemed to me from Okrešelj to the car, as the path was icy... and not to mention some who come only to Okrešelj or Rinka waterfall, in what all they are shod... I wonder there aren't more accidents?! It was a really nice and especially veeery hot - too hot day Yes, and sincere congratulations to two members of the team who today first time completed the winter ascent over Turski žleb to Turska gora and back - of course, CONGRATS

On the pre-holiday day conditions on all Rinke were the same as shown by rozka (,whom I missed), weather... sun, views and more..., and darker side too... on the return via Žmavčarje I ran into that day's discarded "piksno" Union (detective finding : from fresh snow tracks there were two, not summer hikers, not Styrians either..., in Koncu right by the road also a not old pile with lots of paper..., that's current conditions too..., oh dear hikers or alpinists..., next day was cultural holiday...

Hi! On Saturday we were the first (us 4 and one dog) climbing through Turski žleb, later behind us came a few more hikers and one touring skier who also skied down through the gully. Before the ascent we saw tracks of a few fresh avalanches so we figured the base had stabilized somewhat. We didn't go further to Rinke because the colleague had shoe problems. Saturday pics here: LINK, ascent details on club site: Chrne Mambe Hope it helps. Best, T!

Hats off for making it to the top with snowshoes, but it seems a bit odd to me. Lp

Last week they had to rescue a Croat who slipped. Obviously it's in their blood.

Without snowshoes (in crampons) you sank deep into the snow so it was easier with snowshoes to hold the slope in those conditions. Only the exit from the gully was icy (last 5m) so snowshoes were easier option for whole ascent. Anyway thanks for concern What's the recommendation for gully otherwise when no track and sinking deep into snow? Wait for snow to freeze for crampons to hold person or combine flatter part in snowshoes, final in crampons? -Please opinions. Thanks and best regards.

in such conditions, especially if avalanche danger level 3 applies, it's smart to avoid flanks, gullies, couloirs and climbing routes. Because when it goes you can kiss your ass goodbye! Recommendation: don't go then...

Ouch, was the last comment really necessary ? Conditions after the last snowfall are not safe for couloirs like TŽ. If going (in safe conditions), definitely crampons and ice axe, snowshoes (no matter how much it sinks) not recommended. If you think trampling is too hard, alternate leading or choose an easier goal. Good luck to all nationalities

In KSA, 1-2 danger level has been announced, 3 applies to Julian Alps and western Karavanks, so no need to exaggerate with negative comments. . True though, after snowfall into gullies and similar avalanche-exposed areas right after the snow for safety reasons better not go. But photos are wonderful.

Not advisable to look only at numbers, but also at conditions on the ground, and I currently don't recommend TŽ. It's like with statistical calculations - maybe one medicine shows up as statistically significantly better, but the effect is so small that it cannot be brought to market.

Thanks for opinions, comments and concern Always good to hear smart advice. We had full winter gear as always, used what proved best at the moment. Still, conditions then not so dramatic as maybe assumed and snowshoes did a good job (after all they have integrated crampons, solid teeth front and below - TSL 325 RandoEasy). Besides, touring skier girl who went behind us successfully skied down, so that shows terrain conditions different from estimate. Not touring skier but think Turkish gully has rating for skiing III-extremely demanding In other conditions would use different gear and roped as needed. All in all, excellent day and excellent trip to beautiful place. Best, T!

TejaB, if a level 3 is announced in the JA area, does that mean there can't be a 4 or even 5 anywhere in that area? Wtf?! And in KSA the same, and in the Karavanke too... Makes no sense... always the same shit
