Sounds harsh, but obviously every now and then someone needs to get buried for people to think a bit. And I wish no one anything bad... But if someone tramples unprocessed snow up to the ass in the Turkish gully, and is not afraid at all that something might slide, then there is something seriously wrong with that person. At least that's how I think.

Do you remember last season when it buried quite a few unfortunates, winter was really abundant with snow, after those events the "itch" i.e. going to the mountains at any cost calmed down a bit... Anyway here we can "sprinkle" the same advice continuously but there will still be an idiot who asks completely logical things, condition experts can even go to the mountains in "three" because unlike others they know where to move and especially what to avoid! gregcs1: you're right - sad but true! then folk will be all scared shitless again until the dry season and then stupid "dry" questions will start appearing... As if we give conditions up there, route descriptions and other "stuff" for nothing! Best, Juš A.

@gregcs1, you wrote that nicely "but if someone tramples unprocessed snow up to their ass in Turski couloir, and nothing scares him that something might slide..." - I totally agree with you. Otherwise I'd ask if anyone has fresh first-hand data, to post it, because I'm planning to go up on Saturday.

How can anyone offer you "fresh" data if you think someone who was up there is "idiot" and something "terribly wrong" with him? Actually, some right now pontificate about conditions from the home couch, right, others were up there but would like to be first too.

If someone goes through Turski žleb this weekend, let them report conditions. I was planning to, but due to so much written above I postponed for a week, if no new snow of course. lp

@TejaB Also, if someone goes under the couloir, sees that the conditions are bad and turns back, that's a conditions report. And I put much more value on such a report (and on such a person) than on the report of someone who wrote that they went with snowshoes over the couloir because otherwise they would have sunk to the butt!

Except in rare cases my comments are not aimed directly at anyone... If someone feels threatened that I, from my couch, judge the conditions (by the way I don't have a couch at all), then that person interpreted my post wrongly. But if we are all so terribly smart why at the end of the day among a few thousand users only 5 posts?! Best regards and no hard feelings.

@TejaB - if I write fresh first-hand data it means that they are provided by someone who was up there recently e.g. "bdolmovi" so posts need to be read fully and also think a bit what someone asks or reports with their writing. Also your claim that by us "idiot" is the one who was up is a generalization showing you didn't get the essence of this debate. No hard feelings. Also "Toomy" gave correct first-hand data, only most of us thank God disagree with his assessment of the situation i.e. we think in such circumstances one should turn back. "bdolmovi" thanks for the info. lp

Primož76, I was just about to post the same link. I told Teja you shouldn't just look at the numbers. Now it's really dangerous. Good luck everyone.

Yeah, conditions in Turski couloir today aren't really for "cheering". Especially in the upper half of the couloir there are lots of windblown snow and crust that gives way, lower down unconsolidated snow. In one part below the summit snow is scoured to hard, partly icy base. The upper part had strong wind blowing too, some turned back because of it. Otherwise there were quite a few people up there today (even some with crampons, no ice axe ).

Today on Mali Rinka - great day, powder and no one anywhere. Only returning ran into a couple of quite late hikers for my taste. Conditions, of course. Can drive to hut, but some ruts so deep car gets stuck on edge, then end. Happened to at least five today. Suggest no driving from here. I dug like mad with ice axe 45 min till got car out. Catastrophe - wanted to do first part to Turski couloir entrance by headlamp, then this! Then walking road to Koča pod slapom Rinka Benča joined me (see photos) better mood. Snow ok to Okrešelj, then soon crampons time (for me) tracks windblown. Crust held some places not others, but to top of couloir no issues. Can get there fine. From couloir top to Mali Rinka trickier, snow crusty sinks over knees. Predecessor (yesterday entry) similar problems. Otherwise great sunny day like nothing yesterday. Warning less experienced poor fitness it's demanding, add 45 min each way (if fast walkers). Snow not nice sinks.
Good luck + best Jure

Whose is this "Berni" who seems to join more than a few?

This is Benča, the hut keeper's little dog. She is the real mascot of this area and judging by what was seen yesterday also an experienced female mountaineer. Very friendly to people, as a true Bernese Mountain Dog she has a strongly developed protective instinct - even me she 'watched' yesterday to the return to Okrešelj

Benčin dom is the pension Na razpotju. The lady said she goes on multi-day tours, even to the Jezersko side. She has a phone number on her collar and hikers call from all spots. Thus she does nice promo for them. She became a real KSA mascot. She joins anyone showing a bit of friendliness to her.

Hehe, interesting. Some TV house could make a piece on this unusual dog. Cool.
