Today we chose Rodica. Won't describe the path itself. Will describe conditions. From "hunting stand" onwards snow on path, where trampled it was icy. Coming out of forest on mulatiera we spotted nearby Jehlc 1662m. Crossing three gullies needed more caution, first two filled with avalanches. Crossing first gully snow quite hard and looking down no end if "possible slip", so put on crampons and crossed carefully. Next two no issues. Below "Jehlc" turned right up south slope of Rodica, led to side ridge Lower Bohinj Mountains, nice view to Kneške Ravne, Podkuk pasture, Matajur and Žabiški Kuk. From here to saddle "signs for Rodica, Šija" snow refrozen, then to top Rodica north wind blowing fine snow. Continued on ridge path but more caution to top, some cm hard crust underneath hollow that broke under weight sinking to waist. At top few shots and back same way. In Rut village stopped at linden tree 830cm diameter only 25m high.

Since "we" had sports day at Vogel, I used some free hours and "jumped" to Rodica.
With chairlift to Orlove glave, then from Kratki plaz ski area skied on slush towards Planina Suha, there skins on and up old track to Rodica. Slight breeze didn't bother, cooled hot day nicely, some cloud from SW just beautified blue sky.
Short break nice views, then skiing on 2-3cm settled snow base. Best where old windblown snow. Met two, chatted, said two or three, they up I down to planina, skins off skis on up to Kratki plaz, drink at Orlove glave. Then continue sports daysmile.

Today I chose Rodica. Road to Javorja dry except last meters, no problem even for normal cars. Snow starts right at start, today refrozen, path partly icy, skis on backpack, soon crampons on feet. Before Suha already on skis. Early so waited at Suha for softening, none came. To gully on skis, through on foot crampons. Summit part below Mala Rodica and Rodica slope still snow covered, but refrozen hard. Strong northerly too. Snow didn't soften till noon; skiing summit slope excellent (bit noisy), further bit harder due ice and torn gully. Still ok to Suha, through forest hard and rocky.

Hello!
Yesterday the traditional 36th ski tour descent from queen beauty of lower Bohinj mountains by AO Bohinj. Organizers chose right day. Surprisingly excellent conditions, descent outstanding. Skied to hut at planina Suha. Which won't be possible next days. Snow on planina melting fast. Only higher up remains. Pics say a lot.

A week ago with gondola to Vogel ski area, then on foot via ski slopes to Sija and on to Rodica summit. In between up Orlova glava. From Rodica back to Sija, summited Sija and along ridge to Vogel top. On path installing new via ferrata cables. Back to ski area past Rjava skala, extra tiring as end very steep. Whole path well marked, not too demanding full wonderful views. That day many paragliders over Lower Bohinj mountains, spiced trip. Lp

Yesterday we climbed to Rodica via a somewhat unusual route.
To planina Suha via normal path, just above the planina we turned left towards Glin. Before Glin we branched right into Dole (system of larger sinkholes between Mali Raskovec and Rodica). Peace and lots of interesting flowers lured us there cool. Towards Rodica we climbed to the saddle between Mala Rodica and Rodica.
Back via classic to planina Suha.

Yesterday, 28th July we headed to Rodica from Grantarski gozd above village Rut. Weather was very muggy and strenuous for walking, and no help from wind along the path. Just before the saddle it started blowing. Not many people on the path. But on the foggy summit we met a whole group of mountain bikers. No comment on that, as I'm an OLD mountaineer.

Until now I've heard only praise about Rodica... but of course about winter visits. And when I looked at the pictures already posted in this thread, I understood why. But what nature offered us today was a real autumn fairy tale.... We started at Ski hotel... and also finished... at the beach. nasmeh At least we two, the third team member went on to Crna Prst. Just before descent to valley it showed 22 degrees at Vogel... then in car below 12... Looks like I'll really come to love autumn in mountains nasmeh

Today I took advantage of the nice weather, the predicted stable snow conditions and the still operating cable car to Vogel to get a closer look at the Lower Bohinj Mountains, which are my first choice in summer.

Already at 8 it was incredibly warm at the ski area. On the ski pistes the snow was nicely compact, slightly frozen. Off the groomed pistes, however, one was already sinking to the knees in the morning.

From the upper station of the Šija chairlift I headed in the direction of Rodica. Without snowshoes it was not possible, as one was sinking too much. On the steep slopes, however, the snowshoes were sliding too much on the wet snow. So I changed several times from snowshoes to crampons and back. On the section of the ascent below Zah. Suho the snow was even slightly frozen, higher up it sank to the bushes again. After a good hour of walking I was already so tired as if I had walked at least three times as much. So I turned back below Čez Suho and descended to planina Suha.
There amid harmonious bird song I basked a little in the scorching sun rays and enjoyed the solitude until two skiers rode past.
They had skied down from the top of Rodica. According to their account, the snow towards the top was still firm upon their arrival.
They went down to the valley, I continued with snowshoes soon after them.
From the start the descent through the forest was quite pleasant, although the snowshoes were flying on the soaked snow. Crossing the steep gully with great caution was still somehow manageable, as the skiers' track was well packed. But the descent down the gully was a real ordeal. It was too steep and slippery for snowshoes, without them one was sinking to the knees. As soon as the steepness eased, I put them on again and walked with them to the end of the path. Above the gully another skier overtook me, who said that yesterday, when there was the traditional ski touring descent to Rodica, the snow conditions were significantly better than today, as the snow had frozen only in the middle of the day.

The skiers went by road to Laški Rovt, I took the usual hiking path towards Ribčev Laz. On this section of the path I saw only a few days old, already faded ski track. Without difficulty I snowshoed to the place where I should cross Suha, although in the lower part of the path I had to go a couple of meters on bare ground. In between I also tried without snowshoes, but it sank a lot, and there were also dangerous holes under the snow.

Crossing Suha was not possible due to the high water level, so I returned to the road and continued on it for a while. At the fairy-tale hut I turned left and followed the footprints on the snowy forest path all the way to the newly forming hamlet. From there on the macadam road I reached the first houses in Ribčev Laz in just a few minutes. After a few more minutes of walking between the houses I arrived at the center of the place and Bohinj Lake.

Today on Rodica completely different picture than a month ago.
Again took cable car to Vogel ski area. Started walking at Ski Hotel, as other lifts no longer run. Across ski area to Orlove glave a bit with snowshoes (more habit than real need), below top of Šija chairlift continued without, as snow ran out. Bare ground all to saddle under Šija and on to top of Šija. Towards Rodica still all snowy. Tracks of predecessors erased by sun, so took approx direction of trail crossing slopes under Šija which appeared here and there from snow. Snow mostly nicely compact, crust on top, frozen in lower layers. No sinking, crampons held well. Maybe better to descend to valley under Šija instead of crossing steep slopes and then climb to usual path closer to spot where it starts ascending over some rocks to Zad. Suha.
On this steep section snow ended too and path bare all to top Rodica.
From top descended via snowy gully between Mala Rodica and Lepa Suha to planina Suha. Path crossed quite some steep slopes mostly snowy. Snow persisted almost to planina Suha.
At planina Suha real spring. Couldn't get enough of fresh green meadows sprinkled with white crocuses. As if fresh snow fallen.

In forest just below planina Suha still some snow patches, further path without features. Also no issues crossing Suha stream at end. Ended path at Bohinj Lake in Ribčev Laz. On whole path met no living soul (except one frog I scared crossing stream), so only wind kept company which blew strongly to top Rodica. At summit itself almost calm and with pleasure sat good half hour admiring clouds hiding highest peaks. Another nice day.

@SuzanaM, you were lucky there was no wind on top of Rodica, I was up there in the morning at 7 and it was blowing strongly so I just signed and back to the valley...

As said, still under the summit it was blowing hard enough to carry away, at the summit around 12.00 a real miracle. It was pulling a bit but it was nice to sit and look around. So it wasn't too cold, the sun helped a bit trying to shine through the clouds.
You probably had more luck with views.

Rodica in spring and autumn time is rarely without wind, yesterday morning especially, cap and gloves were obligatory.
Views were also not great, from your pics you had better ones. The lake was in fog, and the rest was also so-so...
