Today, 20.3. at 17:57 it was officially the end of winter. Had to catch the last winter tour before spring starts. From Vogel I descended to planina Suha, from there I ascended to Rodica. The gully leading from the planina was completely icy. It quickly let me know that despite crampons no joke with it. Above it poetry for carving, snow just right transformed, a bit slow but slope enough. In forest balance exercises, lower on forest road already quite rotten so "switch to ski mode" and ski down with a couple stops to main road.

The road is drivable with passenger car (somewhere a fallen tree low across the road, so only passenger) about 4 km from main road, further still snow. Just 100 m further a marked path branches off which is shortcut to end of road so you're there in 15 min.

Today I go to Vogel alone, Nina prefers climbing, ski for one hour, then head to Šija. Can't decide between Rodica and Vogel mountain where great terrain. Try west flank of Šija which at 11am hard as concrete, so ski north to Zadnji Vogel and back with chairlifts to Šija. This time descend east to Suha, fine slush, then skis on backpack to M. Rodica. Around 12 snow nicely settled so instead further to Rodica prefer direct down to Suha, snow fantastic, nice slopes around me. Then dogs on skis and back to ski area. One more up to Šija, know it will be different now. West side settled and it was crazy. Whole flank to myself, panorama super, snow insanely good. Then just descent down valley to Zad. Vogel and back to civilization. This was one of my better touring ski days..

The conditions are idyllic, the south side has been completely dry for a long time, the north side was still under snow on my last visit.

Indeed it was, just hazes covered the blue sky and took color from views. Anyway, I plan at first chance to extend to Črna prst and in reverse direction to Vogl. My favorite paths for summer start.

SuzanaM; my partner and I also admired this beautiful corner of our homeland on Saturday, as predecessors' posts excited me for this tour in advance; really, if slightest mountain lover, nature here can't leave you indifferent; path itself beautiful, "cherry on the cake" views when you "crawl" or "puff" to saddle then top; simply - fairy-tale; path started bit above Rut village nicely switchbacks but every step ascent, first forest later shrubs, top saddle lovely gentians and cow herd, top takes breath - views; Viharnik warmly recommend; lp

On Saturday Rodica was really visited, probably due to cable car celebration at Vogl. Path really scenic. (Ski Vogel-Šija-Rodica-Črna prst)

Weather this summer not at all favorable to mountain visits, but forecasters predicted better for today, decided yesterday to go to Rodica. Morning window view not promising, yet drove to Rut where sun greeted. After under two hours ascent on wonderfully routed flower-surrounded path, stood on Rodica top enjoying views to sea, Bohinj lake part and nearby peaks. Only Triglav shyly in clouds. As fogs rolled from Črna prst direction and black clouds approached, had to return to valley. Except path overgrown some places no other peculiarities

Today third time on Rodica. First from Vogla, second
from Ruta, today marked path via planina Suha. Already at planina fogs rolled from coastal side, on ridge fully dominated, no views. When thundered twice more, we fled to valley. Need to repeat!
