We went with Roman to check the conditions a bit. The road to Vrata is normally drivable. We somehow planned Škrlatica, but turned back at the bivouac, as there was fog/cloudiness at times, couldn't see even a meter. Otherwise, the path to 1400m is dry, except the avalanche which you cross and gain height on it for a while. From that height only snow, compact, so we quickly put on crampons. When we got near the bivouac, the fog was so thick that it wasn't visible anywhere nasmeh; it changed fast and above 2200 everything frozen solid. So we snacked at the bivouac and returned to the valley.

Today we visited Škrlatica. First snowfield on slope to Stenar saddle, I think it'll last a while, no special problems unless much colder. Above bivouac cross three more to last scree before wall which is still under snow now. We put on crampons here, seemed safer. Wall dry. Enjoyed solitude on top under blue sky, around clouds chasing, in distance rain curtains....
first snow patch, but right below soon from the Aljaž hut there is still a pile of avalanche debris1

On Saturday and Sunday, that's 07 and 08 July, we plan to hike the tour Vrata via Sovatna to Stenar and then to Pogačnikov dom, next day to Škrlatica, pick Križ and Dolkova špica in between, then descend to Vrata. Snow conditions interest me, otherwise I know the path, I've done it but never so early, thanks for info.

Conditions by 7.7. will surely be completely different than now.. don't know how much current data helps you. Over Sovatna still some snow, to Pogačnik then bp, further to Križ bp. To Dolkova haven't gone this year so don't know snow there.

Is there still any snow on the path from Vrata past bivouac IV to Škrlatica? Planning to go up at the end of the week...

Any danger of slipping? Haven't been in these parts yet and not an alpinist.

Depends. What winter gear will you have with you?

Because I had concerns about possible snowfields and use of winter gear, and you can't rely on very different opinions on the forum at all, I asked about conditions on the path at Aljažev dom on Sunday evening. The caretaker told me the path is already nice. To my question about necessity of winter gear she said it's not needed. On Monday we set off towards Škrlatica at half past seven in the morning without winter gear. After exiting the forest, still before bivak IV there's a large snowfield, which in current conditions (relatively warm weather, some rain) is passable with good boots, with which you kick steps into softened snow. It's also possible to bypass it without problems. Same for a couple smaller snowfields higher up and the larger one right below the scree before entering the wall. We crossed the snowfields on descent quickly and funnily by sliding with boots. All without winter gear. If it cools down, which currently doesn't look like it, and snow freezes, then safer with winter gear-crampons. Although snowfields could still be bypassed.
The path was very much to our liking. We needed 5h relatively slow pace with lots of stops.

Yesterday I did this wonderful tour to our queen. Weather was quite changeable, worst right at the top, but at least didn't have to walk in the sun because it would be hellishly hot. Lower snowfield still before bivouac can be bypassed on right, upper two after bivouac crossed without problem. But the scree under wall is the real deal….one step up – two down…))). The mountain itself and surroundings gorgeous, can't see it like that in pics, gotta experience it. Well, back to valley I bumped into nice company of hiker Nataša and the path flew by.

Next week I plan to visit Škrlatica from Vrata, then descend from the top to Pogačnikov dom where I'd sleep. Curious about the path over Dolkova Špica, is there still snow?

Would it be better to descend from Škrlatica back to bivouac, then from there to Pogačnikov dom?

Thanks!

As I could see there are still quite some snowfields around Dolkova špica but those areas are unknown to me and I don't know exactly where those paths go, maybe someone who knows the path will chime in, otherwise ice axe and crampons in backpack and it'll be fine.

Best regards!

This weekend with buddy we went from Škrlatica to Dolkova špica without problem, no snow, then continued to Križ (where there's still some snow but can avoid it) and then to bivak IV.
