Skuta

19.07.2012 We climbed to Skuta from Kamniška Bistrica through Žmavčarje. Due to the path closure to the cableway, the route is quite extended; many don't follow it and drive with cars right to the end. Minor issues at the very start of the path across Žmavčarje: the path is not marked, but there are marks - lines on rocks, ascent to the bivouac below Skuta, and junction to the Turški žleb Skuta path. From the bivouac onwards, more orientation by cairns is needed. Ascent to Skuta, and descent via Štruca; the plan included crossing Dolgi hrbet, but we skipped that part due to extremely strong wind gusts. Descent to the bivouac below Grintavec, then to Cojzova koča at Kokrško sedlo and to the valley. If there had been no abnormal wind gusts - an extremely nice hike - a loop.

Yesterday, 19.7., to Skuta solo (my group had obligations) via Zmavčarji to the bivouac below Skuta where it was already blowing pretty hard. Then to the marked path crossing Male pode. A local advised that I could go straight up across. But before I could scramble there anyhow, I was already around on the marked path. Below the walls of Kranjska Rinka, over Streža-"ramp" to the summit. Part of the path was in the lee and it was quite pleasant. At the summit, occasional quite strong wind gusts, so I didn't stay very long. Descent on the west side, plan to continue over Dolgi hrbet but, as the predecessor wrote, I rather skipped it because the wind gusts were occasionally quite strong and I don't know the path exactly; it'll wait for next time. I met quite a few people on the path. Below Dolgi hrbet to the bivouac under Grintovec, then to Kokrsko sedlo for a cold radler and descent to the Kamniška Bistrica valley to the start. It was a nice hike nasmeh

Hi pohodnik38. Yesterday we met. We took the photo at the summit. :-)

Otherwise the tour is fantastic (without wind of course :-)). Same via Žmavčarje up and Kokrsko sedlo down.

Took advantage of the super day and reached Skuta via Štruca from Žagana peč. At the summit I stayed a whole 1 hour. It was complete calm, sun... what more could you want nasmeh Hard to start down.... anyway, the path to Cojzova koča and further is all in yellow ribbons and even adapted in places because Sunday is the Grintovec Race.

Skuta was quite crowded yesterday (and today). Start in the pleasant cool of Logar Valley and through Turski couloir to the top of Skuta. Mandatory hop to Štruca and across Dooooolgi ridge to Mlinarsko sedlo.
Followed by descent to Češka koča.
Crossing Dolgi hrbet in this direction is much more difficult, as you climb down the knobby spots. Also, the descent to Češka koča is a real walk on j....h. A very careful step is needed. Just before the exit from the wall refreshing water was flowing (snowfield), but it won't be like that for long.
Excellent company and excellent day!velik nasmeh

I agree, the snowfield has melted a lot, descent from Mlinarsko sedlo to Češka koča is very demanding (very crumbly) and exposure is very high on most of the descent. Otherwise, crossing Dolgi hrbet is real mountain rock and roll.

If we plan something for several days, we usually overnight in some guesthouse (2 years in a row in Soča, one year in Log pod Mangartom, where we also have food and then we just drive to hikes from the accommodation), otherwise it's different when you go deeper into the mountain world, or cross ... then by force of circumstances you have to overnight, so far I've always managed to get a room for two, but not everywhere in huts, now we are in a dilemma when heading to TNP and sleeping would time-wise, height-wise add up best at Prehodavci.zmeden

Well, I'll chime in a bit (more active-around 500 posts-I had on PZS forum, since it's gone...etc). This forum is no longer what we enthusiasts of this "useless world" expected at the beginning.

Regarding accommodations, it's true that we differ greatly from abroad and real mountaineers certainly expect some order in the hut where we sleep. I suggest you inquire beforehand how and what it is with that in the specific hut, what experiences others who have been there have and then decide.
Now a little "advertising" for the hut close to my heart and every time I stayed there, there were no special problems, namely Češka koča. True that many years ago I was there more as a Czech guest than now, but never, at least during my visits, there were problems, as also this Saturday not.

Something small to see, if anyone is interested:

Skuta and Dolgi hrbet

Conditions and fixed protections all ok and everything as before,... newly "leveled" or "graveled" road to the lower station of the cargo cableway to Kokrsko sedlo (debate about the newly placed no traffic sign! remains), along the path to Dolgi hrbet spotted a real mountain beauty - chamois.
View of Skuta - eastern approach1
View of Skuta from Dolgi hrbet - from the western side2
Alpine beauty - chamois, on the path to Dolgi hrbet3

Today then Skuta. Don't know about you, but for me there's an unwritten rule that one returns to the scene of the "crime"!!! For me that means something I don't succeed at, or which I can hardly control, which I just can't win!!! And that's Turski žleb, no problem in climbing, that's pleasure, but those couple dozen meters of scree that I just can't "chew"!!! There I use up energy for five Skutas! And it just pulled me into that couloir. And I went. Day for "killing"nasmeh In the morning it didn't look like it. Alarm went off at 3:20, and I didn't feel like getting up, but thinking...I'll have a bad conscience if I don't go, and I went! Then I saw that it was right, weather, terrain..all "bomb". Classic-coffee at Okrešelj and on! With awe-respect constantly looking up there on the way, and indeed again troubles-slips, catching balance, I didn't even look around where the path should be, saw a hiker below me where he walks and that eased my descent!velik nasmeh I walked right by the wall-my way-mistake!! At the top wind, but weather...no words. At the top quickly photo and down. At the start of descent I hear helicopter, lower down learn from someone that they were rescuing at Mrzla gora, not pleasant to hear. From Okrešelj down quite a few young families in actionnasmehcool...nice to see the little ones trudging up the slope, even lower procession of hikers - all sorts, someone already wrote about it and no more...some pass like mummies, no talk of yielding, let alone greeting!!! The cross near the hut was probably brought and placed on 15.8.2012 for the holiday "Assumption of Mary". On the way back from Kamniško sedlo to Okrešelj there was just at that time a mass at that spot and a larger number of participants. I think the cross was placed for that purpose, but I don't know why the mass participants didn't take it back to the valley.

L.G. How did you manage to move Ojstrica so it's now next to Skuta.
All congrats for a truly big feat. Bravo!!
Where did you put Rinka, Turska gora, Brana and Planjava? That really interests me so I can fix positions on maps.

Little one, not so hasty.
Skuta is visible from Ojstrica, but not neighboring, as master L.G. wrote.
The point was in the neighboring.
Greets you Julius from the neighboring street (village, town)
