Thanks, in such beautiful nature it wasn't hard to find winter motifs. I also like looking at nature pictures and reading your posts about interesting ascents and of course descents.

I'm also attaching some pics from Smrekovec. We climbed it from Sp. Brložnik on Ash Wednesday. After carnival some fresh air was fitting. Weather was wonderful. Few visitors in the morning. We met only three ski tourers and two hikers with a dog. On return two more hikers just below the top.

24.02.2012. Today I drive from Andrejev dom along the road to the footpath junction for Smrekovec. Tour planned: traverse Smrekovec to Loka, then to Raduha and descent via Durce to Bukovnik. From parked car to hut on Smrekovec the path took me 2h. Not much snow on the way. From hut to Komna track from snowmobiles. That part also 2h. From there to Travnik wading deep snow. For that part one hour thirty. To Planina Vodole I already get used to poking and sinking snow layers. To Planina Javornik cross two avalanche-exposed spots. On Planina Javornik not much snow. To Loka total eight and a half hours - worried about conditions in Grohot. Not much time left. Call son and agree he'll wait with car below Loka. Raduha and Grohot wait for better conditions. Lp.

12.03.2012 Road Križan Sleme, Bele Vode completely dry. Footpath over Staknetov vrh to Kramarce dry. Road to hut on Smrekovec icy. Path across whole Smrekovec range was pure poetry, hard snow supported our weight, except rare cases of breakthrough here and there, we were carefree, followed only my track from few days before. Only Luna failed, we counted on that on descent from Uršlja. Wind kept us alert - (bora). On Planina Vodule we could turn off headlamps. So we rested our eyes. From there to Loka quite dry, hard frozen ground offered fast walking. At Loka short break, but what when today I don't breathe, don't eat, don't drink. Lp

Today from the hut on Smrekovec to Komna and back. Sunny slopes already dry, in shady areas piles of windblown snow. Remains of drifts frozen so no sinking through. Thermometer at the hut showed 9°C.

Today our path takes us, among others, also to Smrekovec. We drive to the hut, then a quick jump to Komna to check the snow conditions a bit. Pictures will show how it looks. Lp.

Today I went on an easy tour, from the hut on Smrekovec to Komna. It surprised me that it is quite dry. Snow can be found only in shady parts of the path. Lp.

From Križan past Sleme, across Smrekovec range to Loka.
On the road without extra gear we run the easier parts of the path, which leaves consequences on me, since I don't do running. In between we resupply from the car. Path dry, except a few exceptions around Komna, there still some snow that didn't sink through. After scouting tour I expected generally worse conditions. At Komna a marten scares us. In the dark I see a pair of eyes rushing straight at me. When I see the eyes closer to the ground, I think of some sick fox. My shout scares even Stefan. Later it turns out the marten came with locals to listen to Petelin. At Hlipovje towards Travnik already walking in the light, whole night with wind escort. To Loka quite early, since hut open we drink coffee and continue. Lp.

Loka, Planina Javornik, Travnik, Komen, hut on Smrekovec.
After good snack and other needs after almost one-hour stop we head along Smrekovec ridge. Path is dry and pleasant. On grazing pastures horses and cattle graze. Water in abundance. Different picture in morning hours and rainy days, then on certain parts soaked above knees. At hut we planned snack but Liza and her family greeted us. Hut closed for a moment, but our backpacks were a bit lighter afterwards.

Loka, Travnik, Komen, hut on Smrekovec, Sleme
Along the Smrekovec ridge itself we met quite a few hikers. Most around Travnik since the hut was open. Nice to cross Smrekovec now when shepherds are around, well snakes could be seen elsewhere too, we hiked this route because of K24. Regards.

On Thursday due to bad weather forecast we drove to Atel saddle near Ljubenske Rastke and then headed to the hut on Smrekovec. From there to the top of Smrekovec it wasn't far anymore. On the top views soon started to be covered by fog so we didn't decide to continue the trip towards Komen and rather stayed on the top a bit longer. Then there was nothing left but to return to the start and later see Braslovško lake and walk the path around the lake and also Žovneško lake, both near Braslovče. Regards.

On beautiful sunny Saturday across Smrekovec ridge past Sleme to Krizan. At Loka Tomaž and I each eat our chosen meal, top it with Coke. Then coffee. For water and other stuff we took care during short wait for food prep. Then full of energy we head to Planina Javornik, here in summer always lively. Today crowd also at Planina Vodul. For a moment sad thought crosses me of winter days when far around alone on this path. Behind us Knezova planina too. Often meet hikers and blueberry pickers. Hut at Travnik also lots of visitors. Then first hiker on path to Komen. At Komen again lots of people. Quickly run into fallen rotten tree across path. Again can't avoid thought how long it will lie there, at least last week Markecist tells me they have so much work they can clear path in five years. I do it much more often alone, but according to him I can be fined for that work. At hut below Smrekovec Aleš awaits changing shoes and we pack all gear into car. After coffee and coke some Fikan salami. Then simply by road to Kramarce here shortcut to Sleme and later to Krizan.

SLEME- HUT ROMA-KOMEN -TRAVNIK- LOKA
Leave the road, first few meters on new logging trail, then alternate walking with running. Grouse along the path provide good mood. Sky quite cloudy, hope no rain. Smrekovec ridge overgrown in places with blueberries and high grass right to the path. Pants quite wet and muddy, gaiters dry. At Planina Vodul cows on pasture surprised us. When walking Planina Javornik sun started shining, that's best time for me when I can turn off headlamp. Loka closed, so backpack lighter.
