Venomous snakes are supposed to have eyes with a vertically narrowed pupil. This one has one too - I'd say it's a viper?

Snake probably looking for bird eggs. I saw as a child one on a tree. But black one isn't viper. By the tail you can tell if the snake is venomous or not. Non-venomous snakes have tapered tail.

Attaching two more pictures where the tail is visible.

Tadej, thanks! Snake is snake. I don't provoke any. Better 5 meters to the side than examining it up close. Or even studying if it's male or female?

Fikret, you made me laugh ! I too with snakes wouldn't study their pupils up close peter2 knows the most about this, maybe he'll skim these lines and resolve our uncertainty.

He made such nice pictures that it's completely clear it's a viper. Oh, on picture 27 it's probably a smooth snake.

Great that the topic is moved. Maybe we'll finally find out if vipers really climb trees too

Of course they climb. On dwarf pines (also on low spruces) I've seen a black viper many times. Gotta be careful on some pathless areas when grabbing dwarf pines...

I confirm. I was in the army on the coast and we had to be careful before sitting under dwarf pines. They dangled like spaghetti A bit of a joke - but true.

A green snake jumped onto my dad's back from high bushes, and since he didn't know what it was, he reached for it and then it bit him. Gotta be careful. Good luck!

Haha, I can almost hear @ločanka say to her companion "you go ahead" when they'll reach some dense brush

Even worse can be snakes on trees. You retreat alone, squat, pants down to the knees, quietly look left and right so no one surprises you. Then right above your head you hear hissing

Will we now use safety suits and helmets for the path through the bushes? Jesus, Jesus!
