A bit of a joke, snakes are super, the biggest danger for us are ticks eek
A snake bites if there's really no other way. A couple of years ago when returning from Kanjavec in spring I saw this tiny viper. It was as big as some overcooked spaghetti nasmeh When the poor thing sensed me it got all scared, I stepped right over it as I didn't see it before. It rolled over a few times in place, only then pulled into grass above path.
A bit further there was an adult one, lying right by path. I hear hissing and look up in the air, thought a paraglider above me making that noise. I look to the ground and see adult viper. I step a few steps forward, when no longer standing so close to it, it moved higher above path too. I stood so close to it that it could bite me but didn't. I made quite a few pics as it wasn't in a hurry anywhere nasmeh

Today in the Karawanks nasmeh it was still young, it lay right by the path. It was probably sleeping, it didn't move either mežikanje

On the path to the top of Košutice we both got scared at first. It wanted to move away, but I stopped in place and froze and watched it. It figured I meant no harm and returned to previous position - sunbathing and warming. Followed photo session velik nasmeh

I think we really need to watch for snakes this year. A week ago on the path to the top of Struška I met two vipers. The man ahead of me warned me of a viper, they had withdrawn under rocks but I had to pass by it. He noticed them only when they warned with hissing, too close. There was about half a meter distance. Paths in bushes are more exposed.
And safe step.

As pikica1 already said, ticks are the biggest danger from the animal world threatening in Slovenia. Really dangerous!!!

As far as I know, ticks only go to a certain height, so in mid-mountains and higher no fear of them, I think the limit is 1000 masl.

Ticks live in Slovenia almost everywhere, we are safe from them only in the mountains. They live in forest undergrowth and grass up to 600 meters above sea level, sometimes even higher (up to 1600 m a.s.l.).

This young snake crossed our path yesterday on descent from Bačarsko sedlo to Podbrdo. Does anyone know its name? It wasn't in a hurry. Higher up on the path to Kobla there was a startled viper on the path that quickly retreated into the bushes.
