Stenar

The plan was to photograph ibex above Luknja. We extended the tour with my sister to Bovški Gamsovec and Stenar.
Ibex are really wonderful animals and I don't regret the extra weight of the telephoto lens in the backpack.
The snowfield on the traverse below Stenar can be bypassed, elsewhere no more noteworthy snowfields.
The scenery opens up, the show is about to begin.1
Leisurely lounging and personal hygiene.2
Curious one behind the rock.3
In a previous life his name was Fido :D4
Real poser.5
Portrait of a native mountaineer.6
Master of the pack.7
Heavy is the crown of the king of mountains ...8
Below Gamsovec there is one of the nicest terraces.9
A chamois appeared briefly nearby.10
Stenar is still far away ...11
View from Gamsovca towards Kriške pode. In the background are Planja, Razor and to the right Križ.12
Around Stenar some small clouds are drifting.13
But when we two arrive at the top of Stenar there are no more clouds. 14
Descent over Sovatna or better said a bottomless abyss, since it has no end :) 15
The icy Triglavska Bistrica cools overheated feet :)16

Stenar via Sovatna... The path isn't overly demanding up to the entry into the rock section. Further on, scrambling on rocks and stepping on trails is real pleasure. Caution is never superfluous. Good fitness required, tour is quite long and path very steep.nasmeh

Majda, congrats to both, you handle it well on foot, altitude gain significant, mountain and flower beauties admirable, you took me to my old days when I could still do such paths. Thanks for this journey! nasmehmežikanje

Yesterday a loop tour: Ruski križ - Krnica - Kriška stena - Križ - Stenar - Bovški Gamsovec - Luknja - Zadnjica - Trenta (Na Logu) - regular bus to start. Weather very good. Until 11 partly cloudy, slightly foggy and windy, perfect hiking conditions. Lots of hikers from everywhere (Czechs leading). Path OK, to Križ from Bovških vratić side, from Stenarskih vratić side path closed (landslides visible). On Pihavec clear landslide - wonder if path closed? Think safe on far left side or wait for winter. Used Bovec - Kranjska Gora bus again for nice loop.

Is Kriška stena a bit crumbly?

There's quite a lot of scree on the path, especially on the lower part. Technically easy, but careful steps are needed. Helmet is a must on such paths. For an experienced mountaineer like you, it's a piece of cake.

Hello,
does anyone have info on snow patches on the path via Sovatna to Stenar and Bovški Gamsovec? I'm going with my son on Sunday, but don't have winter gear for him, so asking.

Hi! The path via Sovatna is dry all the way to Dovška vrata. Last 300m below the summit some patches on the path you can avoid (as on Sunday, 8.10.)
Bovški Gamsovec dry from both sides, also via Luknja.
Good luck and enjoy! nasmeh

In the morning, when I arrived in Vrata valley, no one anywhere. Went up via Sovatna to Stenar. Walked several hours, strenuous, hard in places and some sinking under Stenarska vrata. From there I broke trail. Descended back via Sovatna, as there was more sun. Lower, break with snack viewing Stena. Nowhere any voices, peace, silence, solitude. Met only a few at Klin in the valley. Nice day.

Today crowd in Vrata. Around 5 am the parking was already completely jammed. On return to the valley the barrier was wide open and people parked right in front of Aljaž's doorstep zmedenzmedeneek
We climbed to Stenar via Sovatna. We enjoyed the view of chamois lazily grazing along the path.
Best regards and take care!

I browsed the forum a bit and saw that the last description of this mountain already has quite a long beard, so I headed there yesterday.jezik
Let me say first that I don't regret it, on the contrary, it was one of the nicer tours. Upon arriving at the parking lot in Vrata I was greatly surprised, as there wasn't a single vehicle there, which I haven't experienced before. I was also slightly surprised by the fresh snow from last night, about 4 cm, which was very useful as it stuck well on the icy path through Bukovlje and walking was much easier. The most trouble was caused by the puffed-up beech leaves, in some places up to the knees. In Sovatna there is quite a bit of snow, it was breaking through here and there, I put on crampons when I reached the sun, around 1700m. In the pure white it was a super continuation, no zigzags because I advanced all the time on the snow field, right of the summer path. I didn't go to Dovška vrata either but soon turned right around Lower Stenar. Conditions really super, no wind, but high clouds were thickening and the sun was hiding more and more. As said, no living souls anywhere, on the top I enjoyed the views for almost half an hour. This time the photos are not so quality, as the cloudiness was thickest just when I was on top.
