From Bovški Gamsovec I continued towards the Stenarske vratce and onwards to Stenar. Towards the vratce the path is still almost entirely under snow. The crossing was fairly soft with imprinted steps. Those not used to snow walking should at least bring an ice axe, continuation is on bare ground to the top. On return I witnessed a rare sight - a rainbow in a cloud over Triglav.velik nasmeh

Over the vratce I continued to Križ.
P.s.
In Sovatna there's another unpleasant steep snowfield, north side of Stenarske vratce still all under snow.zmeden

On Stenar today quite lively since several groups on top. A bit further from Stenarske vratce need to cross small snowfield with steps kicked in. Some bypassed it from below anyway. On way back I went to Spodnji Stenar from where nice photo views towards Triglav.

Fig. 14, damn, did I "wander" on such a steep ridge on Saturday? And it was very windy too.
@Tomaž11, congrats on the pics.

Yesterday first time on Stenar. Tour: Vrata-Sovatna-Križ-Stenar-Bovški gamsovec-Luknja-Vrata. Nice circular tour. No heat as low clouds crept in after 10 o'clock so Stenar was mostly covered all day. View from Križ good, from B.Gamsovec solid. Path over Sovatna in the morning mostly in shade, not too steep. On path some chamois, mainly goats and kids, some big bucks too (below B.Gamsovec). Amused by rock inscriptions - Križki podi.jezik These quite visited but less than Triglav.

Did it amuse you whether it's Križ.. or Kriš..?
I'm wondering how you got to Križ and to B.Gamsovec to have a view from?

The ordinal adjective for Križ as a place (or in this case peak) is Kriški. (Kriški podi, Kriški rob, Kriška stena ....)

sirt1, I agree, grammatically it's correct on Križ and on Bovški Gamsovec. Old grammar rule that still applies: NA - Z/S and V - IZ. best regardsvelik nasmeh

Hey, Slovenes, do we really have to just argue and nitpick over trivialities??? Typical for us. Let's argue. Shame!!!

Autumn days around Stenar are always interesting and beautiful. In these parts one sees a lot of beauty.
First time here, below Stenar I noticed a fox that was briskly running around...and didn't pay much attention to the chamois sunbathing on the rocks nasmeh
The path to the mountain via Sovatna went without problems, and the weather did its part too.
Stenar is a mountain that doesn't disappoint...it was Tuesday, 27.9.2016

Best regards, Rok

Was there on Sunday (30.10.2016), came from Križ direction, snow only in one part (visible in picture), which you can easily avoid.

Has anyone hiked over Sovatna to Stenar this week? How much snow, is anything trodden?
