To the mountains with a dog?!

I've already given up on this topic. I have a dog and I'll continue to take it both into the high mountains and into the mid-mountains... Depending on the choice of destination, I decide if it's suitable for the dog or not. Yes, off-leash where there's no crowd and when people are coming towards us, I put it on the leash. Continue to enjoy, everyone, just like us dog owners with our canine pets! S.

You quoted the proverb as it suits you, I as it is true. Dog is really a pearl, owner though...! Who whom is not worthy, look what you do with dogs. Really dog enjoys when you drag him to high mountains. Especially nature, views, sunrises and sunsets are dear to him. Dog doesn't go to hills for same reasons as you, but because you take him there. I think there are many more suitable spaces for him, where he will feel better. (sharp stones, strong sunlight, precipices). You don't care for him, you look only at us, but at same time you insist how he enjoys. You are so egoistic, that you don't care for animals (you aggressively invade their space), not speaking about people. P.S. And don't think I hate dogs, no I myself have dog from shelter mongrel, not in same range as your boxer with which you brag. One of dog owners, who expresses her (im)power through dog.

Everyone knows for themselves when their dog would suffer. And it doesn't matter at all if it's a mongrel or purebred, big or small ... The guest precedes these "amens"; you too invade animals' space every day in nature. In the mountains we are all guests - dogs and people alike and all have the right to be there if they follow the rules. Is that clear? What if we rather stop debating dog suffering, bad experiences etc. and finally say something nice, eh? If owners have their dog with them in the mountains, on a leash, water for it, dogs don't poop on paths, don't bother others ... Then it's OK, right? I think everyone can have a bad experience from any area! And nobody should ever allow themselves to generalize all to all. And how dare you claim that someone expresses their (im)potence through a dog? If they take the dog everywhere with them, it seems the opposite to me! What then? Take it to the end of the street and go quickly back home? What do you do with your dog? Always the same path so it doesn't know anything else than bushes sniffed a hundred times? Dear ones, believe me, the dog doesn't suffer because of walking in the mountains. And one more thing: sunsets are beautiful, yes ... The dog nicely sits/lies next to it and otherwise doesn't care for sunrise/sunset but is happy to have an owner who loves it and didn't take it to the field among farmers' crops and turned at the usual spot and returned where it already knows everything. Let's talk about something else ... Where were you last with your little dog and how was it? Dog lovers and hikers - I'm asking you Oh, yes ... Haha ... Egoistic because we take dogs with us ... But isn't that better than those who are always locked up? Go attack those, it'll be more sensible! Regards Z.

Hi, you wrote it well, Z. Congratulations! For the dog I always have both food and water with me. Well, true, he doesn't watch sunrises/sunsets like I do, but he's happy that I share time, good mood etc. with him. Well, last time he was with me on Rodica. But since I've had more demanding routes lately where climbing was needed, he sadly waited for me at home. But now that it's cooled down again, the dog has long fur after all, he'll happily hike to Tosc, Košuta etc. Finally! Best S.

For now I don't have a dog, but I'm glad when on paths in the hills I meet besides hikers on two legs also those on four. Last time below Korošica I met a really interesting "pooch" and his "shepherd". The pooch was big as a calf, similar to Drnovšek's Artur, but very friendly. Best, J.

My little female dog was with me last on Triglav. Online I bought a harness from Ruffwear, which has a handle in the middle of the back, so we could lift her like a "bag" where there was some jump and help her - really super thing. Given that whenever we go to mountains she wags her tail happily the whole way and is full of energy when we're all tired, I presume she's fine with us. Otherwise she goes with me wherever possible. Of course peaks where vertical climbing on pegs and chimneys is needed on some path are out, no mistake. Good luck!

I'm deeply disappointed at the yelling of the guest above (capital letters mean shouting) - unbelievable how impatient and hostile some so-called "hikers" are?!

Yes and precisely those who probably until a couple years ago didn't even know what hills are let alone mountains (today it's just trendy to be a "hillwalker").

Lady who has a mutt, why can't the pup be in the same class as a boxer bitch, or don't you value him because he's a mutt ????? Or that's why you don't take him along, because you think he's worth less ??? It's not nice that you go on excursion, but leave dog at home, why did you "rescue" him from shelter then, because he was cheap ??? or because you're so good and boast about it ??? Guest who yells up there, you don't have to read this page, it's obviously under title with dog to mountains ! Why join these debates, there are plenty other titles. Doesn't bother me if you're disappointed, be it, that's your problem. What does dog have with abyss - does someone throw dog into abyss ? Just some pointless advice ...

You can see that all well-meaning dog articles are written by one and the same person. Yeah, real tormentors with your dogs. He wrote right in Jana, the Dr. vet: who can't give love to a human, gives it to the dog.... Or maybe he knows nothing, for you of course? Because you are all so smart that a human can't even believe it. Really open your dog forum, don't dirty up here. Here the topic is hills. Otherwise really a waste to lose time with you, because you bark at the moon.

You've studied this Jana well, but didn't understand the sentence well - who knows, is in front ... which people do you care for so much, you know of all beings man can be the most sinister beast, how much misery in the world has man caused, how much the dog? Veterinarian Butinar, who uttered this sentence that's stuck to your heart so much, you don't even reach his ankles ...

You do great harm to your dog, because you are precisely his master. Read his article in Jana and try to understand something else besides your miserable belief. Who reaches where to whom, I'd rather not about that with you, because you understand little of things.

Ha ha, my pooch turned 16 in April, also with the help of vet Butinar and is still very vital despite my harm, but can't go to the mountains with me anymore, though he has many miles hiked in the foothills behind him, so now I too stick more to the "lowlands" and thank God we won't meet somewhere ...
