Someone wrote that the dog suffers when walking on rocks and in the heat (then only irresponsible owners go with the dog in the sun anyway), but I dare say it suffers less if it goes with me to the mountains than if it has to wait for me at home in a closed apartment (because we can't keep it in the yard because of neighbors who poison dogs and cats). I'd rather say it doesn't suffer, but enjoys it.

In the mountains the dog must be on a leash. And it mustn't sniff other people either if they don't want it. We stick to that and that's why we have no problems.

So far we haven't had a single conflict with any person in the mountains. Some people wanted to pet the dog, most admired its sky-blue eyes (the dog is a husky).

Again someone boasting about their dog. That means they take it to the mountains out of necessity, because they have nowhere to leave it when they go hiking. The neighbors probably get on their nerves with its barking (though poisoning is really absurd).

Because I like people AND animals, I regularly follow what's happening in shelters where animals end up that irresponsible people abandon. That's irresponsibility! To deliberately injure a living being or leave it to its fate! Guest (before me) read a bit what people do to dogs and scold those who really torture them (deliberately cut off shoulder blade, clean cut off leg ...). But stop here, dear intolerants, scolding us who have dogs and take care of them. Even if we take them to the mountains. If someone did something to you, talk to them. I also don't like irresponsibility of owners, but not when someone takes their dog along! Even to the mountains! Click on some shelter ... Horjul for example. If looking at and reading certain stories doesn't make you at least a little sorry for the ugly words we find on this forum, then I think we can fear your actions towards some animal too ... Unfortunately I don't know you, so I can only continue taking care of my dog, and that it won't bother you. But if we ever bother you, better that I (despite my apology) run away. Because I think it wouldn't be possible to talk why my dog barked at you. Oh, I'll tell you right away: because it feels your hostility.
best regards

On Sunday we went with the group along the Iška gorge to the confluence of Iška and Zala. Very nice hike, pleasant weather and a hundred dogs without leashes, you can only dream about muzzles. Already at the entrance to the gorge, or at the inn, there were a lot of dogs running free and spraying everywhere, while their owners were cooling off with beer and gorging on cevapcici on the terrace. Since there are several signs at the entrance to the gorge prohibiting fire, litter etc., we hoped there would also be a sign warning dog owners. Well, since there was no sign, there's nowhere to complain. But we with the group decided that next time we go there we'll bring a sign too, warning hikers that there are dogs without leashes there and they are threatened by dog shaking, by poop and to be careful with dog owners, because they're nowhere when some dog casually measures your pants and eats your sandwich. So dog owners let people breathe, I'm not against dogs, but it bothers me the indifference of dog owners. I don't put everyone in the same basket, there were three dogs on leash.

We always have the dog on a leash and also pick up poop after it when we go to Iška. It bothers me too that dogs are unleashed there, because some very quickly rush at our dog.

Well, some people are irresponsible, but not all of us, so I hope you don't hold it against everyone.

Quite a lot of owners are really irresponsible, I myself have already warned them several times about leash and poop. I have a dog myself and RESPECT the laws. Really a shame that such make a bad impression for all.

We almost always take the dog with us to the mountains.

On the trail he's off-leash, obeys recall, if people approach us or at the hut, we always leash him up, since we respect that others might be afraid of him. Otherwise he's off-leash. He has no hunting instinct and doesn't chase other animals and doesn't bark like crazy. So more than dogs, wild animals are disturbed by loud people. If I'll pay a fine for the unleashed dog, I will.

We don't pick up poops IN THE MOUNTAINS, because, as someone already wrote, cows and wildlife also poop in the forest, and people too, and believe me, I haven't met a person who picked up their own poop and put it in the backpack among sandwiches or in the pocket. If there's someone here who does that, let them report.

Is it torture for the dog to take him to the mountains? My dog obviously enjoys the torture, since whenever he sees "hiking boots" and backpack, he puffs up with joy.

The dog is happiest if he's with us. Whether that's in the mountains or on the couch. Just that he can be part of our family.

I have to add something about picking up dog poops in the mountains. No way will I pick it up after the dog, just like people don't pick up after THEMSELVES. And actually you don't even need to go to the mountains, just walk a bit in Ljubljana's PST or Tivoli and you'll find tons of human poops. But how do I know they're human? Because a dog doesn't wipe its ass. Which little guy didn't pick them up? PS: In Tivoli I do pick up poops after my dogs!!!

Those who take their dog to the mountains - you're great people. Better to have him with you than rotting alone at home. Dogs enjoy our company the most. My dogs? They always go with me. I myself have 2 boxers who have already been with me to Vogar (among others) and further to the Triglav Lakes, where they enjoyed immensely. Another boxer joined us, it was great. Luckily we didn't have issues with passersby, even though the girls were off-leash the whole time. But it's true, all three are very obedient.

Nice days in the mountains with your dog darlings.

You really have smart girls. Obviously more than you yourselves. And also this: the dog is happy because he's with the owner, not because he's in the mountains. Dragging a dog to Triglav is torture for me. At least clean the poops off the trail for the dogs.

Dear U., do you know that wisdom: Don't cast pearls before swine!

And many more nice moments in the mountains and elsewhere!mežikanje

Guest, two posts back.

"The dog is happy because he's with the owner."
So, if he's with the owner in the mountains, he's happy?

Great, now we've finally cleared it up! There's one who got it.

Yes, even when he's with me in the mountains he's happy, yes. Anywhere, just that he's with me. Well, mine I wouldn't take to Triglav (I didn't either), but I already know enough what my dog is capable of, so I take him where I'm convinced he'll manage.

PS: If my dog pooped on the trail, I'd 100% pick it up no problem - bags for such cases are always at hand.

How will you know how to handle the dog properly, when you can't even read and understand the text correctly. You don't understand the proverb either, or rather you adapt it to yourself. I think this debate will never end, only those who don't agree with all your "subtleties" wisely withdraw. Because we have that ability, the dog doesn't because he loyally follows you. But you obviously don't get some things, despite all your knowledge. At least that's what you think.

me again, who mentioned pearls and swine above... as you see, that proverb unfortunately still holds...mežikanje

Well Mojca, nice that you don't put all dog owners in the same basket, but I would advise you, before you bring a sign with warnings against dogs, to visit a proofreader. Well, before words starting with P stands the preposition S and not Z.

The proverb holds, because not all dog owners deserve a dog because they are really pearls. Owners though ... That the proverb says. Literally. Mika

The proverb which I quoted for U. is meant in this sense: do not get into negotiating with people who are not worthy of you...

Your interpretation is however tailored to your needs.
