Also my congrats, gregcs1. I climbed the described route years ago daytime and I admit, not even in my craziest dreams would I think of going into Slovensko at night. My exit went over Frelih ledge anyway.... But I go almost every year at night to Triglav past Vodnik hut and Planika then over Mali Triglav. Something always drives me up there at night again. Hard to say what....and WHY... I say a tour can be beautiful at night too, when above you only stars and moon....and no usual crowds on these paths. But my aim is waiting for sunrise on top. Goal is anyway that whole "long" way up.... Night has its power....and charms. Definitely something is missing if I skip this tour some year. Attaching link to pics from one of my trips up there, to add some atmosphere.... Description by pics. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/103625930607451649680/albums/5504428467289826817

It opens, just a little patience is needed. Congrats to gregcs on the tour which requires quite some experience and mountain mileage for safe ascent, so not suitable for everyone, especially not at night .

Hello mountain lovers. I'm interested if the path through the hole or threshold to Triglav is already dry or when approx it will be? If someone's walked there describe the conditions and nice safe steps in our beautiful mountains.

From Saturday to Monday we wandered around Triglav with four Belgians. Surprisingly we picked the gaps between rains and weren't soaked once in three days. Saturday around 12 at Krma parking waited for rain to stop. Then to Kredarica, race with rain started at Kalvarija. We lost but arrived dry at hut. Snow starts below Kalvarija, mostly southern, sinks shoe-deep. Sunday Rok joined and fully equipped we went to summit. Wire mostly out, snow southern too. Weather worsening, at summit not sure if it was it. Closer look under feet showed bit of flag- whole tower with flag under snow. Plan was descend to Dolič and on to Sedmeri but fog too thick and fatigue too much. Returned same way and another night warm at Kredarica. Last day descend to Velega polja, short ascent and descend via Krstenica to Blato. Really one of nicer routes around Triglav, esp this season all yellow, purple, white… Pics: http://gorski.vodnik.alpinizem.net/blog/

By your estimate/experience when should the path to Triglav from Kredarica be dry? Three weeks? Regards

I'm more for three weeks. Not that much snow anyway, but weird wind situation buried the whole tower. Been up there several times, always at least flag sticking out (even winter). Already most of wire is out, means few summer days and path mostly dry. Of course some snow patches remain requiring winter gear (crampons, ice axe). In about three weeks at normal temps for season snow should melt.

Around Triglav still real winter. Snow starts right at entry, 2/3 up Mali Triglav dry, further along ridge to Triglav summit still fully winter. People go up, better early morning when frozen, after 10 already melting a lot, afternoon local big avalanches of new snow at these heights. In between quite some rocks trigger. Whole crust morning sinks shoe-deep, so off-trail walking quite hard (double sinking), daytime on steep traverses rotten 20cm layer slides away under feet. From Krma snow starts on Kalvarija slopes. Where trodden it's somewhat better. Morning ice axe, crampons mandatory for plateaus and high mountains!. Was over Kot to Stanič hut, next day to Kredarica-turn.

Congratulations first to Igor's team for tough ascent in one go to Očak. Zvončica, upper traverse from Stanič to Kredarica is barely trodden and scoured by previous skiers. In between some new avalanche debris, which can be crossed in morning with crampons. Where it cleared to bare, need to kick step harder into hard base. In places on north side step can unexpectedly break on steep slopes, so walk slowly with firm step and testing it holds, of course with ice axe in hand. Afternoon on steep snowy flanks snow gives way a lot under load. Probably north sides only now after avalanches!. More tour description also on TK gora.
