Awful... it also happened to us that a family with 2 younger kids asked us, as they climbed from Planika to Mali Triglav while we were already descending, where it is easier to return because they were totally scared, without drinks and clothes, they left everything in the hut... we advised them to return.... oh no, if we're so high was the reply...

It was the same on Saturday afternoon, 31. 8., and I also met quite a few adults with a solid alcohol base, actually one wonders that there are no more accidents when you see all that. And climbing the tower is also a special kind of sport.

When I see those idiots climbing our national monument, it always freezes me again and I wish the tower path had a few hundred volts.

The best and easiest way to 'fight' such guys is to photo them and post on the forum, let someone recognize them and let them be at least a bit ashamed ... many times I complained to such ones on the spot, then you only put yourself in trouble to argue with them or God forbid something else ...

Here is the conscious Slovene on top of Aljaž tower, waving flag, that's patriotism. Drunken rabble, no shred of respect in them, neither to the mountain nor to Aljaž.

Even crosses on summits aren't exceptions for "climbers" on symbols, though the latter doesn't belong on top! OK different topic, they should only be ashamed! Others around silent, like asses!

In this way they'll destroy it sooner or later. Maybe that option to move it to the mountaineering museum wasn't so bad after all. There anyone could glance at it casually, without climbing on it. And preserve memory of patriot Aljaž for our descendants too. Otherwise summits would be prettiest if nothing was put up there and we couldn't consequently get outraged and argue about it. Be it cross, little Triglav, boxes, axes...

did he damage it at all when climbing and being on it? if yes, then he should get a fine, otherwise I don't know why so much fuss....

@ms primoz: definitely he COULD have damaged it. If you run a red light at traffic light and don't injure anyone, you deserve a fine.

Didn't damage it, but that doesn't belong to basics of nice and cultural mountaineering behavior, climbing pillars or crosses... when you visit someone, do you climb their roof too? In the end, as far as I know, Aljaž tower is protected cultural monument or heritage, if not mistaken, so at least from that side should have some respect for it...

ms primoz look, they barely restored it couple weeks ago, already crawling on it. How to know if he damaged it or not? Should someone from insurance live up there whole year and assess tower condition for every nutcase on spot, and if finds so report to Triglav cop to issue ticket. Or what?

One day we gotta decide. Either fully commercialize Triglav, which we're already doing by creating idea that who hasn't been up isn't Slovene, equipping with iron, fences on ridge, hauling 100 women up, mags full of pics of 1st minister Alenka on top, cable car planned apparently, then unprepared unfit rush up etc, or let summit ascent stay demanding tour, prepare with respect to mountain, rewarded by great views on top and cultural monument important for heritage preservation. I'm for latter for sure. But not sure this post won't anger some who go once for photo.

I've written about this. Will repeat: Opinion that '100 ladies to Triglav', mass-attended masses on summits and other pub gatherings in mountains have no place. Each such event legitimizes following ones. Always someone with new bolder idea. Also don't approve monuments, crosses, NOB markers, memorial plaques. First Triglav chilled me from all those plaques. Go hills, enjoy nature as you like. Stupid meets, self-promo, business, politics leave in valley. Don't deviate.

Jany, I completely agree with you. This obsession and thinking that you're not a real Slovene until you've been to Triglav is wrong. This tells people that Triglav is just for everyone, which of course isn't true. It seems stupid to me when I hear how people buy expensive mountaineering gear just so they can become "real Slovenes", then that gear just collects dust. I really don't know why Triglav has turned into a pilgrimage path, but it's becoming really too much.

@Jany @Daaam gave an excellent explanation... Otherwise... Triglav is accessible in winter too. Nature makes natural selection. Believe me... if it's real winter and a nice winter day it will be UNFORGETTABLE... And you'll stand on top without destroying the tower... For everything else there's Mastercard or whatever...
