To Triglav?

You keep theorizing, we are up there. For now just one quite fresh one.

Thursday afternoon from Krma in fog and light rain to winter room at Stanic. Morning over Rz to Kredarica and then to summit. Little snow, and that mostly southern.

On top pure kitsch: sun and no wind. At Kredarica unique atmosphere with meteorologists and record holder.

That we still write about Slovenian Triglav, mountaineers can thank Mihajlo Pupin, also for a large part of Gorenjska remaining Slovenian and not Italian. As honorary citizen of Bled, finally after 96 years after the Paris Peace Treaty, a monument is erected to him, yesterday unveiled in Bled as gift from Republic of Serbia to Republic of Slovenia. About life and work of world-famous inventor much is written online. Also a bit in today's (Saturday) Ljubljana newspapers.

Seven years ago this (from web):

In 2008 then president of Alpine Association of Slovenia Franc Ekar wanted after decades to revive memory of the patriot. He sent letter to then presidents of Slovenian state and government proposing to erect memorial somewhere in Gorenjska, maybe Bled, to this Serbian-American scientist and Bled honorary citizen. "At end of celebrations of 230th anniversary of first ascent to Triglav we mountaineers often thought, in which country would the top of this mountain be now, if world citizen Mihajlo Pupin hadn't intervened with US president regarding the almost set state border between Italy and Yugoslavia after WWI," wrote Ekar. "Besides Jakob Aljaz, Pupin is most deserving that Triglav remained Slovenian." No reply to that letter.
Maybe we Slovenes by end of next year on 160th anniversary of Pupin's birth will with monument remember the man to whom thanks go for large part of Julian Alps and valleys below being Slovenian.

When they pull new border in coming days, Slovenes would certainly need a new – Pupin.

And what can a simple man think of politicians leading our country and others in world. Full of ignorance, hatred, vengefulness, selfishness, people without heart and soul.

Finally real winter conditions for Triglav arrived.

Stepped on first snow already at Polje. Today Zg. Krma was real treasure in gold with snow-covered larches. At top of Ulc about 10cm snow and then to Kredarica not much change only above Snezna konta hard old snow below.

To summit alone. Lower snow layer hard, above powder that sank sometimes over knees. Cables to M.Triglav partly out. The ridge itself deeply snowed and if no big thaw, snow might hold. Despite fog rising behind me, had sun on top. On return dense fog accompanied me.

Followed descent to this year really colorful Krma.velik nasmehvelik nasmeh

Snow starts below "wall" and under Dolič about 30 cm already. Watch spots where it drips over wall, at least two places icy on rocks on path. Otherwise track but not everywhere, wind blew track making small drifts.

From Dolič on most snow on path, higher on ledges windy old frozen hard snow, crampons useful. Under wall take ice axe, leave poles hope no one "finds" them. Traverse from ledges to gully under Bovška škrbina much snow, exposed, gully windblown snow on hard base, goes well to top.

From Škrbina foggy to top, snow hard.

Descended same way, snow didn't release anywhere.

Igor, wonderful pics - precise path description. Tour for the soul. No tracks anywhere, no one, neither ahead nor behind. What about safety if something goes wrong? Sometimes the devil takes the young too. Sorry if I'm bothering.

Lino, I'll explain it myself when I was even greener in the mountains.
People who have many ascents in the mountains behind them know all kinds of conditions in the mountains and approach the mountains accordingly, sometimes they even give up the summit, take another path etc.
Regarding safety in the mountains you can never say you're 100% safe, only with a series of experiences and acquired feelings you trust yourself and feel that everything is okay on the path.
But an external factor or a moment of carelessness can very quickly change the ascent on a solo tour.
Don't go to high mountains if already in the valley you feel you're not focused and the mountains don't call you or you're too tired for the path.

Viharnik, following your posts and pictures on the forum you're already an old and experienced mountain cat. Given my nagging, you've convinced me. I've sprinkled myself with ashes and I've already gulped the water.
