Hello. Maybe a layman question for some but something interests me, namely has anyone climbed the South Triglav wall plus wall to the top of Triglav. As much as I read all routes (Slovenian, German) lead to Kredarica then via ferrata further. Maybe wrong. Thanks for info. Best, Nino

The Triglavska has been climbed many times already, even the hardest part (Sphinx) has been free climbed. The upper part has also been skied already.... you have videos on the internet.

Of course, the Long German route takes you all the way to the top of Triglav in its full version. A few years ago I climbed it on this variant with Juš Avguštin, but need to add that the start of the north ridge is very loose and you have to be very careful, also on climbers below the ridge, because rocks fly easily. Higher up towards the summit the rock is excellent. You can read more here: Long German

If you know where to go, the approach to the north ridge is also on monolithic slabs.

Mitja, I don't doubt it at all But at that time we didn't see them, and later I haven't climbed there anymore. The descriptions didn't say much either - but the twisted smiles of the old veterans and GV who know the upper part well were more talkative later While we're at it, GV is the law for such things anyway.

Thanks Crazy. So only the Long German takes you to the very top? Best, Nino

That's right. Of course you can also combine something (e.g. Bavarian + Long German, or Slovenian with traverse via Kugy to S ridge, or a small million other combinations). But the north ridge is actually the natural finish of the German Pillar (along which of course the Long German route runs).

Hello On 30.1 I plan to go to Triglav for the first time with a buddy, both have pretty good fitness every day in the mountains and I think Triglav wouldn't cause us problems... But I'm just wondering from you who are of course more experienced in this, if weather or snow is a big problem for the first time or are there some other factors that you advise against the hike? + Which route would be the best? Thanks in advance for the answer and best regards! Urban

Definitely if you have no winter experience, don't go to Triglav for God's sake. The best time to go to Triglav is sometime in August/September.

Ugh don't test Triglav for the first time in winter, because it's not just about fitness! Grintovec for example is much easier and you'll quickly see how much trouble snow will be for you

I hope you have some winter gear and that's not just gloves, hat and long pants. Go from Krma, drink beer at Kredarica and for the first time just check it out. For the first time I recommend something easier e.g. Stol, Visevnik, Debela peč etc. Winter Triglav isn't just fitness but also all other stuff. Good luck.

Fitness is the smallest factor you can rely on in the mountains (especially in winter)... The easiest route is from Krma, which is well trodden in winter too... If you don't have experience with snow and secured paths, better think about a mountain guide (most offer equipment rental if you don't have it).
