At 7:30 I started at Jurček, where snow was falling. There was 1-2 cm. From Podkrajnik onwards winter fairy tale, from Gojška planina icy fairy tale. Up to 25 cm of new snow - completely dry. Towards Mala planina strong icy wind was blowing. On some hilltop it almost blew me away. Weather sunny and foggy, snow still falling. Didn't stay long, before noon already at the car. Nice trip.

Today in one word wonderful experience on Velika Planina, yes cold, but weather fantastic and wonderful views. And some pics for spice.

Yesterday there was also wonderful sunny weather. A completely different world from the foggy valley. Very nice pictures. I would kindly ask those posting pics to tell what cameras you have or use, I plan to change soon but it's a hard decision with so much on offer.

It really was a great idea, this Velika Planina. Plenty of sun and snow, but you can't expect much peace.
Today many partygoers went up with gallons of wine and bags of fireworks, planning to wait for the new year up there. They surely won't admire nature. angry

When the drag lift broke down, the caterpillar machine took the skiers to the top.

I'm interested if the hiking path from Kraljev hrib through Dol valley to Velika planina is trodden? Thanks for the info and happy 2009 to all.

maucec40, the path is surely trodden. I myself went on this path about a month ago and it was already trodden. Just in case take crampons, towards pl. Dol it might be icy.

Thanks Matic4, but in a month a lot has happened with the weather. I want fresh information, because apparently it snowed quite a bit up there on New Year's Eve night.

It's just like walking in the city...
These 10 cm are just enough for nice (powder snow), which doesn't present much effort...
Snow sinks through in places, but not more than to the knees...

It would be a shame to waste such a nice and moreover the last free day. Late afternoon I drove to Volovjek, on a good road. At the saddle already at ten it showed great tourist crowds (sledders, skiers, hikers, motorists interested in ascent on forest paths...). Pl.Kisovec was totally parked along the road through the planina, all the way to the forest. I circled the plateau past Črnuški and Domžalski dom, along the ridge to Gradišče, to Marija Snežna and across Dovja raven, back. Up there it was much warmer than down below. At Marija Snežna it showed -2°C. The view of the snow-covered planšar huts reminded of polar regions. On the planina there are still untouched areas for ski touring. LP-Rok. nasmeh

Depends on which end of the planina and which hut. On Mali pl. some have electricity and around Šimnovec too (they even have TV and other unnecessary luxury for the planina.) Most on Velika pl. have generators or solar cells. I know a shepherdess who has a computer on the planina zadrega
