Start at the lower cable car station to Velika Planina, then across the planina Dol to the top. Descent by the same path.

Let me add some of today's "green" shots of Velika Planina; beautiful, for walking; to slowly get used to later heights; I've heard many a Savinjčan who hasn't been up there yet; I can't believe it, we have such a mountaineering paradise right in front of our nose; maybe it'll draw someone?

Today at the feast of Our Lady of the Snows on Velika Planina, start from Kranjski Rak, nice weather and lots of visitors or pilgrims, among hikers met Tomaž Humar too.

Yes it really has something special in every season and I already miss it. I also like this path especially JARŠKI DOM, where I stop when going up and down. The hut is so homely especially the host Marko, visit him, you won't regret.

The pics were taken on March 8, when we went with our wives on a trip. The author of the pics is a friend, co-organizer of the wonderful trip. Good, he's just bragging; a bit of justified advertising doesn't hurt. LP

Velika Planina is truly a real natural treasure of our small homeland. This is confirmed by the ever more numerous visitors. Particular enthusiasm for the sight offered by the unique shepherd settlement of Velika Planina was heard from foreigners. Great interest was aroused by those small, for them "fairy-tale" shepherd huts and everything connected with life and work on the pasture. When the shepherd appeared in shepherd attire and the shepherd's horn was heard across the pasture, the enthusiasm was complete. But during the numerous photographing of hikers with the shepherd, the shepherdess shouted very loudly from the neighboring hut: "It's not possible, clowns are already walking around!" What a low and base act towards the shepherd, who is the only one showing how shepherds used to dress, and thus spreads the fame and image around the world; very humiliating. This remark from the shepherdess and her folks met with indignation from the present tourists and they couldn't believe what they heard. It's sad that some local shepherds don't know how to appreciate our cultural and natural heritage. Yet they want tourism so much! In this way? But we will recommend visiting the pasture to others and thus give recognition to those shepherds who strive to depict the old times.

Arnika, I agree with you about the inappropriate reaction of the shepherdess. Also about Velika Planina as a unique treasure of nature in this area, between us! But ... it doesn't need this excessive additional advertising either, as in my opinion there is already too much of it now.
I myself have already talked quite a bit about this with an older female tourist who was enthusiastic about the beauty of the pasture. At the same time, she told me, "Don't ruin this unique pearl with modernization, like they do abroad!"
At her words, I preferred to shut up ...

Today's impressions from Velika Planina...
Start from Stahovica past Pirčev vrh to Domžalski dom then towards Konjščica pasture then to Dola pasture then descent via Dolski graben..Nice tour, only the sunshine was missing....

Today it was really nice on Velika Planina, although the sun hid already in the morning (early it was wonderful). Little snow, quite a lot of people, important is that we escaped from the valley smog to fresh air.

Today there were quite a lot of us visitors on Velika Planina. By car through Kranjski Rak to a little before Kisovec pasture, then on foot to Gajška Planina and further to Zeleni Rob.
Sunny rays for show, winter idyll for tasting.

Has anyone been up there after Tuesday's "snowing"? On the web camera the situation is even sadder than on those photos; maybe someone knows how (snowy) it is up there now? Probably not even for sledding yet?

Don't expect too much snow; it's gone today and there's nothing interesting up there anyway as we hear there will be vehicles only sleds and drags green edge in my opinion they prefer no snow than having exactly as if there were 2 meters

Yesterday from Stahovica via Sv. Primož to Velika Planina it was cold but beautiful for the eye! Really a pity that tomorrow the weather will spoil this beautiful winter idyll.

I was also yesterday at Velika Planina, it was calm without breeze, nice, but no snow for skiing because very windblown. I had the obligatory gear with me and flew to the valley.
