For me, Velika Planina somehow isn't too much to my liking, too much tourism and too little peace. The houses look nice, but I'm curious if they are private or if most are owned by some community.

In tourist settlements they were privatized by company directors in the 90s, most of the herders' huts have always been privately owned.
Come to "Velika" on weekdays in winter. From living beings you'll see only some snow buntings...

Velika is really beautiful all year.
Crowds mainly in summer and early autumn.

Dear Velika Planina enthusiasts!
Does anyone perhaps know:
- when is the Christmas mass in the chapel of Our Lady of the Snow on Velika Planina;
- when does the gondola run on Christmas Eve;
- if tonight in the mountain huts one gets mulled wine or tea;
- or is everything closed at night due to the operating time law and inspection?

Lino, mass at Marija Snežna is always, gondola runs too, Domžalski dom is open, so there's nothing to miss if going towards Kamniška Bistrica, happy Christmas!

This year even free chairlift ride for those taking the cable car up, most go on foot from the valley or Kranjski Rak, maybe a bit higher ... the parking will be a problem ... all huts open at night - notice read on Gore in ljudje.
