I plan to go tomorrow, just wondering if after the new snowfall anything is trampled from starting point Strahovica or Kraljev hrib?

Velika planina is trampled already while falling, let alone when more piles up. Quite a few of us in Kamnik to catch the powder and you need real luck to get it! No panic, trampled from Calcita, also Pirčev vrh, likewise pl. Dol. Just go boldly.

11.12.2021 Mala planina We chose starting point Stahovica, start at 6:00. Some die-hards with lights are already returning to the valley, probably from Primož. At the junction where left path leads through Pasje peči two fast hikers overtake us and take left path, we slowly follow, but at one point turned back, no sense of safety. Then chose the path where sign shows winter route. From there no issues, just strong wind before Mala planina. Stopped for refreshment at Jaški dom. Due to strong wind and afternoon commitments headed to valley, past Sv.Primož to starting point.

Today I trampled the path from the gate at the fence on lower Mali Planina past the shepherd settlement to Gradišče. Because I just didn't feel like going to Jarški dom and then to Domžalski and so on. But to the junction for Domžalski dom it's still hard to pass, even though I walked there, because it sinks deep. The path this time is more or less correctly laid and not shifted 10-15 meters too high up the slope like previous years. Also that from junction with Domžalski dom to the chapel I walked correctly and others followed, because often the first just follows the poles which are sometimes 10-20 meters too high up the hill.

Hey, does anyone know how the path from Kranjski Rak is? How is it there when you exit the forest onto the steep meadow?

Do you perhaps mean the meadow behind the house at Kranjski Rak?

From Kr. Rak there is no steep meadow (from the forest). There is a marked path (now a trail) through the forest that leads to the Rakove Ravni parking lot.

And does anyone know what the road from Kr. Rak to the parking lot at the quarry is like, and if chains are needed?

The road is plowed and salted, on Sunday no problem with winter tires.

Road from Rak heavily icy and poorly salted. Cars parked along the road, passing maximally difficult. Also at Rak parking full. On Velika of course winter fairy tale. As usual: Early hour golden hour. Regards Igor

Yesterday, on New Year's Eve, I went to Velika Planina for the last time in 2021, via Pasja peč. Path ok, also via Pasja peč (still need to watch a bit, because icy). On the planina beautiful, temperature for this time noticeably too high. On return to start (first parking ahead of hunting hut above Stahovica) I forgot hiking poles (gift from wife for birthday and mean a lot to me)... since not quite ordinary, (Collapsible hiking poles Black Diamond Distance FLZ), apparently someone's fingers itched and took them (went to check today but they were gone). Ask honest "new owner" to call me (031 779 587). Hope we hillwalkers are honest people . Thanks. HAPPY 2022 and safe step to all.

Hi, I was also on Velika Planina today, but sadly left three-part Leki hiking poles at parking lot at quarry above Kranjski Rak. If someone picked them up by chance, I'd really be glad, contact: sanja.mejac@gmail.com. And a couple pics

Yes, poles often change owners. I've got into the habit of leaning them against the driver's door back at the car. When I change and stuff things into the trunk they're 'safe' (wink) before I drive off.

Quite a few of my poles have made "honest" finders happy. One pair even above Kranjski Rak.

The best is self-protection. I never hang poles in front of the hut or inside on the pole rack. Always keep them with me. When back at the car, unlock it and poles go straight to the trunk. For hikes with bus, collapse them into the backpack. They were too expensive to swap for promo poles just like that. Best greetings and happy 2022 and beyond to all.

Ringing bells after hail is too late They were already old, twisted and straightened many times and were slowly calling for new ones, at least I have a better reason Safe paths from me too!
