Velika Planina

Already on the Kamnik bypass, the fog thins and the blue sky appears, literally rejuvenating you. The parking lot has not a single vehicle, although it's already almost nine. Yesterday's snowfall was more decorative; it was a nuisance only where it covered the old ice. A bit more above 1200m, but dry even on the return. I treated myself to a good dose of sunbathing on the bench before the hut, with no breeze at all. Of course, I was drawn to Domžalec for some nice pics. Almost no people, probably at work or in quarantine velik nasmeh

On the left from bottom to top follow Lastovec 1841, Deska 1970, and Tolsti vrh 1986. In the back are white Velika zelenica 2114 and Veliki vrh 2110, to the right is Dleskovec 1965 m.

Nice, but on pic 9 you admire Veliki vrh and Dleskovec, not Križevnik which is hidden. mežikanje

Conditions have changed little since Friday, but snow (ice) is a bit lower than last time. With my colleague we went up and down via Pirčev vrh, much safer and simpler than the lower path. Windless up top, so we lingered a fair bit before Jarški.

Little snow, which is quite wind-blown...

I think the detour over Pirčev vrh is not really necessary.

I regularly hike over Pasje Pečine and this season there hasn't been anything dramatic yet. Usually I put on crampons at Mickina bajta because I pass it quickly and it gives better grip. However, a buddy managed without, but at a more cautious speed..

Usually I go so early that most others are still sleeping. So I'm at Gradišče quite a while before sunrise. At that time everything is still more frozen. When returning, the snow is usually already melting.

Pasje Pečine on Saturday around 12 were frozen and very tricky. Small crampons almost mandatory. I went without but not recommended. Back I went over the summit.

Yesterday I visited our beautiful Velika planina, but shortened the visit by walking Gojška and Mala planina, skipped Veliki stan due to bad conditions. On the plateau there's quite some bare ground but even more snow-covered slopes where frozen and icy snow prevails and without crampons of any kind walking quickly leads to unpredictable slips. Didn't meet Silvo, but chose a nice day for strolling Vel'ka. Views super from peaks, but valley view foggy. The idyll was slightly disturbed by cold wind, so I used sunny shelter for martinčkanje at all three huts. Very few visitors, met three people whole way from Vegrad. Path dry all to Mickina bajta, over Pirčev vrh still recommend crampons. Most treacherous is leaves covering smooth ice.

Yesterday was also good weather-wise for visiting this hill. Already at half past nine I leave the empty parking lot at Vegrad and head past Primož to Jarški dom. The path pleasant, dry, no mud or ice up to Mickina bajta. From there on the fresh snow from two days ago was welcome, it stuck well to smooth ice and no problems over Pirčev vrh. Southern slopes also thawing higher up, from lese on, summit plateau nice continuous white. Idyll occasionally disturbed by stronger southwest wind in the morning, but warm in shelter. Very few visitors, especially from my side.

From parking behind Ušivec to Jarški dom, then to Domžalski dom, past chapel to Zeleni Rob for beer. Then to Gradišče, back to Domžalski dom and return to parking.
Road to parking behind Ušivec not drivable in morning without chains, for walkers small crampons recommended too.
Otherwise nice, nice ....

Days are nice, everyone enjoys them their way. Since I'm currently a bit limited in movement, this little hill is almost my daily training ground. Yesterday I tackled it from Krivčevo. Along the path, especially upper part, blooming teloh boasts. Thin snow layer only in forest over Kisovec, southern slopes completely bare. At Lidija mandatory tea, no visits.

Today nice circular path on Velika planina starting Rakove ravni. From there to Gojško planina-chapel Marija Snežna-Gradišče-Zeleni rob-Koritni vrh-Domžalski dom-Planina Marjanine njive-Rakove ravni. Small crampons highly recommended, some path sections very icy. Today we met only two hikers on the way.

Nothing new on Velika.
Those few visitors I met were with dogs, crampons and heading for 3000 velik nasmeh

On Wednesday we did a bigger loop across the plateau. Initially planned only to Mala planina, but it was too beautiful not to go all the way to Gradišče and back via Bukovec to the parking under Rakov rob, where there's a small construction site. When hiking mainly watch for ice under leaves in the forest and also better avoid the cart track to Gojška planina. First crocuses already delighting, but no purple ones yet.

Yesterday I too was drawn to Planina, but I didn't start from Jelšev konfin but from Jurček at Krivčevo. The path is divine, not too much excess leaves either, above Senožetnik we turn left, since the path via Gojška is boring for me. Before Jarški 15 empty tables, Lidija kindly serves tea. In almost complete windlessness we continue past Domžalec to the chapel, from there to Poljanski rob, where I first saw the memorial plaque to the deceased accident victim from Domžale. On the planina brown, violet and white colors intertwine, above it blue. Above 1550 I enjoyed the view of the still closed flowers of the last gentian.
