Veliki vrh (Košuta)

Print
bigfoot17. 03. 2012 18:51:08
The wind was really quite gale-force.
No difficulties in accessing Veliki vrh.

I don't recommend Kladivo, as the path isn't trodden anywhere.
Well, now it's partially, as my buddy and I made something makeshift.
Still you can sink up to your waist occasionally.
Lots of slippery snow patches left. Path to Kladivo largely snow-covered, so slip risk at some places when crossing.

Recommend ice axe (or at least poles) and crampons. Even better if you wait a bit more.

Matizovec, planina Kofce, Veliki vrh. Fog, strong wind, cold, no view. Still met some hikers. On Kofce garden strudels and down valley. Can't upload pics because computer messing up, hope Sorok does, with whom we resisted cold and wind together.

They had cheese, blueberry, chocolate and rose strudel. They often have lingonberry ones too. Believe me, they are all excellent.

Yes, according to the "authors'" info it's (besides classic strudel ingredients) actually with added rose petals and topped with some rose jelly. Of course tastes vary - but for me this "rose" is the most and super tasty nasmeh similar taste: mix of raspberry and vanillanasmeh.

Sadly don't have. As said, bad foggy weather, pics would just be foggy gray. Tinky, do you have maybe some suitable? Send and I'll upload.

Did you go directly to VV or to Kofce mountain, then along the ridge to VV? How much snow is still on the summit?
like
Sorok19. 03. 2012 12:43:40
Directly to VV. There is by my estimate approx. 1/2 meter of snow, on wind-blown parts and slopes even more. The path is trodden, yesterday (morning) frozen, so no sinking. But the passages on exposed spots were quite "slippery", so I also, like bigfoot before, recommend ice axe and crampons. Warm gear was also handy, as the wind on the ridge between Toplarji and Veliki vrh was very strong.

Today there was already much less snow than Sorok mentions, so the approach in the early morning hours was quite pleasant. Up to the Dom na Kofcah it is not only snow-free but also dry. With Rajko we headed directly to the mountain with the same name; snow appeared on the trail only at a few spots. Along the ridge to Veliki vrh there was a bit more. Around the hut 32 million crocuses are blooming (which I forgot to photograph).

There is extremely little snow and during the day it does not cause problems when walking, but early in the morning crampons are mandatory.6

Yesterday we couldn't go earlier, so we set off for a "quick" afternoon hike. (Well, in the end it wasn't that quick mežikanje). Well after 3 pm we finally started from Matizovca, then to Kofce (hut open), onwards to Kofce gora and along the ridge towards Veliki vrh in Košuta. Halfway along the ridge a squirrel darted "right under our noses" from behind a large rock on the path (or it seemed to us to be a male). The hike was "indefinitely" mežikanje interrupted. We decided to "track it/him" and do a photo session, as we had never succeeded with a squirrel before. It tooooook foooorever…nasmeh… Finally we continued to the summit. Since we were already so late, we thought we'd wait for sunset too, but the wind was more persistent… and blew us back to the valley a good hour earlier mežikanje. It was gorgeous…nasmeh

GITA, I'm glad to believe you had a beautiful afternoon. The pics are very nice, especially the squirrels that posed for you. Years ago only chamois posed for me, marmots escaped me and the mouflon literally posed at the Tržaška hut. Seeing animals in the wild is truly unique.
Best regards and many more mountain pleasures.

Thumbs up right away for the caressing description of your route. Yes, you're right, the male was strutting and somewhat crossed your plans.

Igor, agree or not, it really posed in front of Koča na Doliču in summer 1985. Sadly no pic, but every time I go to Dolič I remember it. Chamois of course not posing but curiously peeking from rocks. With marmots really no luck, they always escapenasmehzavijanje z očmi Regards.

As far as I know, mouflons move only to a certain altitude, to high mountains only exceptionally. In Polhograjcih at 600 to 1000m they are more present.mežikanje
