Similaun is 3606 meter high peakon which a cross stands and is part of the Natural Park Gruppo di Tessa. The peak is located on the border between the country of Italy and the country of Austria. The nearest mountain hut is Similaunhütte - Rifugio Similaun, located 2km west-northwest. A little further is bivouac Ramolalm. 0.8 km east-southeast from the summit there is glacier Grafferner - Vedretta della Grava, 0.9 km northwest from the summit there is also glacier Niederjochferner. South-southwest of the summit is the valley Schnalstal. The peak is located on the ridge Ötztaler Hauptkamm - Cresta principale Alpi Venoste, more specifically, on the ridge Marzellkamm.
