Hello.
Since I'm enthusiastic about hiking and mountains myself, but currently due to chemotherapy treatment and resulting fatigue I can't handle bigger efforts, I'm looking for ideas for shorter hikes in Primorska (because I assume there's more dry ground there, I've had enough snow for this year). So I'll be happy for any suggestions of trails with no more than 300-400 m ascent. Something similar to the path to Beli križ above Strunjan (not necessarily coastal paths).

I searched the forum for some similar topic, but unfortunately without success...
Soon I plan to buy a climbing harness, via ferrata set, helmet and that rope for resting on the wall (don't know what it's called).
Since I don't know much about it, could someone advise what makes most sense to buy (of course as high quality and affordable as possible) and where. How much does it all cost? I figured around 200-250€? Seems to me if I go to a store, they won't advise the most sensibly, so I'll be glad for any suggestion.
Thanks nasmeh

Hmm considering the experiences maybe we really try with the dog. Anyway thanks to everyone for the answers nasmeh

Thanks djimuzl for the pics. As jbs already mentioned, I really had the other path in mind (i.e. the traversing path). Then I found some descriptions myself and saw that the path is probably too demanding for the dog. But I have another question - can I take this path (so from Studorski pass traversing to the saddle between VDV and MDV) and then descend towards Jezerca, avoiding this more demanding section? Years ago I went something like that from VDV - along the path right to somewhere at the saddle, then the track descended towards Jezerca or joined the path from Jezerca to Srenjski pass. So I wouldn't need to descend all the way to Jezerca, while avoiding the tougher part under MDV. Am I picturing it right and is it doable?

The question doesn't refer directly to Tosc but I'll try anyway if someone can answer. I'm interested in the path from Studorski to Srenjski pass. As far as I got the impression, there is a path that goes under both Draški peaks. Am I right? Is the path sufficiently traceable? What about from Studorski pass - is it visible where to go? I assume it turns towards Veliki Draški vrh and then somewhere the path branches off to the pass. I was thinking of going from Tosc over Viševnik back to Rudno polje. But I wouldn't go to Veliki (and/or Mali) Draški vrh, because there will be a dog with me, so the path must be easy.
I'll be glad for any guidance nasmeh

redbull (or someone else) do you maybe know if the path from Vršič is also dry or passable without winter gear?
Thanks nasmeh

Garmont, which road do you mention? I'm actually thinking of going to Velika Planina and just wondering which starting point to choose or what the roads are like...
Tatana21. 01. 2017 21:32:40
Today I wanted to go from Prtovč to Ratitovec. But the road from Železniki towards Prtovč is so icy that you can't get up without chains (almost). We (like many others) unfortunately had to turn back, but it was quite adrenaline-pumping driving on that ice. So, at least until it warms up a bit, I don't recommend this starting point without chains (or maybe at least 4x4 drive).

Ok, thanks mežikanje

Thanks ajax. From where in Predmeja do you start? When looking at starting points e.g. for Čaven, there are several different variants (http://www.hribi.net/gora/koca_antona_bavcerja_na_cavnu/26/500). How long approx does the circular tour take?
Tatana21. 10. 2016 13:49:52
I have one question, if anyone can help... I'd go on a trip to Mali Golak and to Koča Antona Bavčerja on Čaven. I'm most interested in some circular route if it exists. I looked at different route descriptions from various starting points, but still don't know where it's best to leave the car. I called both huts (also Iztok's) and got some advice. But if I understood correctly, it's best to leave the car a bit past Predmeja, go to Mali Golak, descend to Iztok's hut and from there to Koča Antona Bavčerja, then more or less the same path back (to Iztok's hut) and to the car. Is there a better variant? Are the paths well marked? Since I don't know these areas (yet), any advice will be very welcome. Thanks nasmeh

Has anyone been to Rodica in the last days. Interested in path conditions if starting from Javorje.

Žiga22 I don't know if you wrote in general or had me in mind when you wrote about whiners who dump their unpreparedness and incompetence on others. It's clear to me that responsibility for choosing the path and hiking in mountains is on me and no one else. But I like to get various infos from different sources, as it usually helps with decision (which is still mine). That's why I asked - maybe someone went over Prag in recent days and could describe the conditions on the path a bit more, but apparently no one had more info - at least I didn't understand any answer that way nasmeh
Tatana1. 08. 2014 12:09:34
Žiga22 I called both huts. Who I spoke to I wouldn't know - at Kredarica it was some younger woman, at Stanič a man. Why?
Tatana1. 08. 2014 10:26:21
At Kredarica and Stanič they told me that on the path over Prag there is still some snow patch, but winter gear (crampons, ice axe) is not needed, it can be crossed nicely. Does anyone have more accurate or different information?

alesar the plan was for the weekend. But for now the weather forecast doesn't look great, so possibly we'll cancel or postpone to next weekend. Why?
