Every school is worth it. Another thing is if it will benefit you, or if you'll use that knowledge ...

Yes, it's worth it. Even if you don't intend to climb, it's good to go. You see how rope technique works, learn something new about weather, mountains, GRS, first aid, orientation; in short tons of things not directly related to climbing that come in handy many times.

The Freeapproved alpinism school is enrolling new members. The alpinism school does not require prior climbing experience, but it is important that you go hiking in the mountains and love nature and company. It is intended for everyone who wants to improve their mountaineering knowledge, upgrade it with knowledge of winter mountaineering as well as summer and winter ascents and the proper use of equipment. The introductory (free) presentation meeting will be on Thursday, 8.10., at 19:00. More information and registration here or at alp.sola@freeapproved.com We are not an alpinism section or a mountaineering club. We are a sports association in the broadest sense of the word. Together we not only climb in crags and mountains at home and abroad or hike in the mountains. We also fly and cycle from them. Occasionally we dive, and as a group we travel a lot. Not only on alpinism expeditions or treks, but also on classic vacation trips and excursions. Within the association operate a hiking section, an alpinism section, a ski touring section, and a family section. We like nice photos and we like to write and create memories. Good company, friends, and adventures can be found for everyone

Can anyone here help explain what the difference is between the alpinism school or course at the AO Matica-Lj school and the alpinism school of the climbing center LJ?

This matter is organized by numerous mountaineering societies and clubs in Slovenia. Some have a spring term, others an autumn term. Wherever you go it's practically the same, at the end you get a certificate "alpinist trainee".

green, I can speak only for AO Matico, not for the climbing center. Alpinists in teaching youth teach mainly safety. Climbing is absolutely secondary. In the alpinism school you gain knowledge useful for walking in high mountains, regardless of whether you climb or not. You can learn climbing itself on your own too.

Green, on the website of PC LJ I didn't see that they have an alpinism school. Alpinism school is carried out by alpinism sections, for all who want to engage in alpinism and it is the first level of alpinism education. It's about training safe walking and climbing in mountains in summer and winter. Principally they don't teach you climbing, but safety. While PC LJ runs many different climbing courses etc., it's about learning climbing. Regards!

For consideration of heads of alpinism schools..., one of the schools (sailing) had at the beginning free introductory courses to attract new members. Soon they found out they became kindergarten for kids during holidays. So they raised the price of the introductory course to make selection and only those came who really had big desire (and even among them there was big dropout). Follow-up courses and other benefits were then favorable. With low prices for greenhorns you won't get quality staff, but with discrimination you will deter many who would want to acquire knowledge for moving in mountains. Regards, Peter p.s. no longer the youngest seeking where I could acquire quality knowledge and experience

In the alpinism school they certainly won't become child educators. At most some climbing club, so the initial comparison doesn't seem the most appropriate to me. For an alpinist you need at least three years' experience and age 18... I understand what you want to say, even though you didn't write it directly. AO societies have different prices, e.g. up to 25 years 200€, up to 40 250 and over 50 350. It was like that about 10 years ago when I enrolled. Why is known. Sections look for local youngsters who would then contribute to the section in the next 20-30 years (going to camps, educating new members, going to GRS, doing work actions, care for crags). Many people just want to learn belaying technique, abseil and some winter basics, to go themselves via Slovenska route on Triglav, or to Rokavi, Široka peč and similar peaks. You learn these basics quickly and then many leave AO, since they've learned what they thought. Not saying there's anything wrong, understand school leaders too. Every year voluntarily and free educate cadres, from whom you get nothing later. When you ask on forum if someone helps drive course folks to crag, no one responds... Can you say what price difference in your case? For me 2013 price for me (under 20) think 200€, smaller town 10k inhabitants. Older had 50€ more. In Ljubljana area enrollments 300€ then, today's prices don't know... Lp

Hi Anyone have good/bad experiences with alpinism school around Kamnik? What do you recommend? AO Tržič seems super to me, but drive there seems time too much (probably some weekly lectures live).
