Aha... for summer I'm thinking of joining some course, since I have a bit more time than during the school year.... I'd like maybe to climb some easier variant II/III already this summer, of course with someone who's already an alpinist and masters everything... but probably gotta do the alpinism school first...?

Hello. I plan to enroll in alpinism school, so I'm curious if anyone has experiences with Radovljica alpinism school, as it's close to me. I would be grateful for your experiences, approximate price and approximate equipment needed for the start. Thanks for the information!

timotej, don't pick the school just because it's close, but really try to gather as much info or recommendations from personal experiences. I was quite disappointed myself with the attitude I experienced in some other AS.

@timotej93 Regarding AO Radovljica I haven't heard anything bad yet, so that's something. I'd advise you to check if the crew has a big enough active base of alpinists (AO Radovljica shouldn't have issues ), with whom you can climb at first and mainly learn from them. At school you learn theory and test it a bit in practice, but "the real deal" comes in practice when you start climbing with experienced alpinists who take you a bit under their wing. Every crew will appreciate if you show interest and eagerness to learn. Believe me half-assers aren't welcome anywhere, but if someone's keen they quickly accept him among themselves. Gear, if the crew doesn't have it, you can borrow from members at the start (ice axe, crampons,..). If you're serious about it, you have to get it yourself anyway. For the start I'd suggest getting the following: helmet, climbing shoes and harness. The rest (carabiners, protection gear, ropes,..) the school will provide for the beginning and teach you how to use. @BibaS Please write which school you had issues with and what kind. Don't see it as snitching but rather as help for other course participants to avoid those problems. And ultimately also for the instructors or leaders of that school to fix the mistakes. If we remain silent nothing changes.

I think it doesn't matter which one you sign up for, because it would quickly spread which alp. school is bad. But you also need a lot of time, money, will, strength and good company for the rope team, because otherwise you're "forced" to go only on some climbing secured path or pathless to the top of the mountain. As for equipment, if you haven't got anything yet prepare at least 1000 euros....

Something else interests me. And LG, I know exactly what awaits me and if all that (time, money, will, strength, ..) wouldn't suit me, I wouldn't even think about AŠ! I mostly already have the equipment, so no need to bark the same thing on the last few pages. Every hobby costs.

Hi. Since I still haven't decided I have another question... AO Radovljica or AO Kranj? Thanks!

You ask questions to which you won't get answers. Both ferajnas are quality and at a very high level. It depends what's closer to you, where the schedule suits you better and where you know more folks.

If you're from Radovljica you'll normally go to the home AO, why drive to Kranj at all.

Schools in alpinist sections differ. Different generations within the same section differ, because the school each year is usually led by someone else. And last year's school at XY section could be good/bad and this year just the opposite... Not all people are of pedagogical character. You can have one super alpinist who climbs very hard routes and has tons of knowledge and experience, however if no pedagogical approach and can't pass the knowledge to others, then it's not OK. So go to several nearby sections and check the situation.
