Yesterday, my friend and I went from the village Soča. The tour is long and beautiful, but the criticism goes to PD Bovec. Marks, especially from the scree onwards where the path is not visible, are faded and poorly visible. Thanks to the other hikers who built cairns to help. At the summit, there is no logbook at all! From what I read back, hikers have been pointing this out for years, so it is time to take care of it. Otherwise, a great day with clouds that eased the ascent from the scree on the rocky part where the sun usually burns intensely. At the summit, nice views with occasional mists that hid the neighboring peaks Regards Picture 4 is unfortunately rotated

Apparently you criticize off the cuff! Path maintainer is PD Bovec!

sirt1, thanks for the warning, I fixed it! I apologize but I read somewhere in hikers' descriptions who complain about this for years. Stamp now attached. Regards

At the summit, a new logbook or notebook has arrived

The book was there on Sunday. It says PD Jesenice on it. Went from the village Soča and back. The marks can hardly be called marks anymore, obviously the paint ran out. Last 300 m more by feel.

So, omojcej, I wrote correctly in the first post that the path maintainer is PD Jesenice? Thank you for posting this info, now it's clear how it is Anyway, obviously they took care of the book. Marks almost none or very bad, so it would be nice if PD makes an effort and takes care of that too for all going this side.

No Maintainer of the path from Soča village - B.G. is PD Bovec! Maintainer of the path from Soča source - B.G. is PD Jesenice

Path maintainers to a certain summit can be several, summit maintainer (box, stamp and logbook) always only one.

Since 18.7.16 the path Čez Kanjo to Bavski Grintavec is closed, learned today from the caretaker of the Shelter under Špica. more:

Bavšica - Bukovec - Kanja - BG - Mali Grintavec - Vrh Brda - Škrbina v Brdih - Bukovec - Bavšica. To Bukovec plateau quite green, continuation without peculiarities, path a bit overgrown. From Kanja onwards nothing new, that "landslide" is at least 12 years old (16.8.2004 serious accident right there) nothing has happened, remediation not problematic, removal of unstable rocks and installation of approx 15 m wire rope for crossing aid, which wouldn't hurt also where old pitons are still there. Over M. Grintavec and Vrh Brda, route despite old markings still nicely traceable, special caution needed in initial descent part, scree in places.

Thanks Igor! Finally real info and some pics too. In short, not so scary. The "storm" around this landslide is still on stage. I saw that spot myself five years ago and it seems to me no changes in that time...

Bavški Grintavec is a mighty mountain that shows its might also with a very difficult approach. That it's really so we experienced too with our approach over Bavščica and descent past abandoned villages to the Soča river. The path from Bavšica- but not over saddle Kanja is very demanding and extremely steep that takes us over the pass to the ridge peaks. The path is crumbly and dangerous and I don't recommend it to inexperienced, but it's marked although you have to be extremely careful due to faded markings. Pictures from the hike available

Interesting that with so many generations of mountain guides who attended courses in BAVŠICA, still so many people write Bavščica. Please don't take this as nitpicking and in bad faith.

Dear proofreader @75'er! In your second sentence a comma is missing. Don't take it as nitpicking. Lpp Congrats to PD Matica for the nice tour!

I'm not a proofreader and I don't mind. But I see that quite a few people misname Bavšica, because it's obviously so ingrained among people. I made an effort and placed the comma correctly.

It seems fine to me if someone points out that you're writing or pronouncing a place or geographical name wrong. Sometimes we're just not attentive enough and make a mistake. Right with the word Bavšica the "č" automatically inserts itself, because then it's easier to pronounce. Also it matters if someone changes letters in your surname, omits or adds. So from my side, 75'er, praise for your well-intentioned warning.

Yes, but the comma in the second sentence is still missing. It's also right to point that out. I think all hikers understood the route despite the naming error. There are thousands of errors in comments anyway, and I think the purpose of this forum is not to preach about errors. Otherwise let the first stone be thrown by the one without errors. Who knows, if BavšČica is so ingrained among people as 75'er says, maybe in 100 years it will officially be called that too. Triglav wasn't always Triglav either.

Missing comma or wrong place name is not exactly the same thing. I understand this even more, because (lately things are improving), also my village is misnamed by a huge number of people. Well, it's written exactly the same, but sounds completely different. Aha, so everyone knows what I'm writing about, correctly it's of course ŠtAnjel and not ŠtanjEl. With Bavšica I don't even notice very ingrained wrong naming, most people I talk to name it correctly.
