What's the path like along the SE ridge from Bavšica? Does anyone know?

You mean the SW ridge? It's fine. As you can expect in those areas, it's quite poorly marked, secured not at all. So you need to be careful, otherwise not particularly demanding, some easy scrambling, very pleasant. Actually the more awkward part is just getting to the ridge, then it's great.

And I'll add - completely out for vertigo sufferers, because very exposed, and crumbly in many places. Otherwise picturesque, if no issues with the mentioned.....

Does anyone know what's the situation with the rockfall on Kanji?

Same as last year. The path is closed due to active rockfall!

This rockfall and the one under Pihavec will probably never be fixed. But you can get up there by other paths too.

What about from Bavšica? I remember last year when we went to Zagorelc there was a faded inscription on the rock, a bit further from the hunting hut to Mali Grintavec. That's unknown to me. Can one go further?

From Bavšica past Planina Bukovec is the nicest ascent to B.Grintavec. No iron, just markers, magnificent. The path leads to the ridge Vrh Brda - B.Grintavec, then follows the ridge over Mali Grintavec to the summit. I descended via the secured path to Kanja and from there back to Bavšica.

turbo, you could return the same way too, right? Asking because the one over Kanja is now closed.

In 2017 it was possible to go over Kanja. After that I think not anymore.

Of course you can go back the same way. It's quite airy, you need to watch the markers, before the main summit there's a scree descent during the ascent and no "harder" spot is protected. I don't remember any spot troubling me on the ascent, on the descent yes because no self-belay kit. It was a quarter century ago... Mihelič concludes the path description in the Julian Alps guide: "The path is very well marked but no gram of iron on it. It goes over rocks that would be secured on most of our paths. So the path is very demanding. For an experienced hiker, it may be the nicest approach to Grintavec."

My experiences are a bit different. To me the ridge path overall seemed a bit easier than the path over Kanja, so the circular tour seems more recommendable by ascending via Kanja. Yeah, the ridge is not protected, but I don't think iron is really needed anywhere. If it were well marked, it would be pure pleasure, but as it is, sometimes you have to look around. Anyway, all this is more hypothetical. For now, it's only possible to go up via the ridge. And this path in both directions is a nice and recommended tour.

I quite agree with Jax, it also seems more sensible to me to go up Kanjo and down the ridge. Of course... if the path over Kanjo will ever be like it was...

Let's not discuss the path over Kanjo anymore. The path is and will remain officially closed due to the rockfall. There is a project for a new route, however, crossing the rockfall at the most dangerous spot cannot be avoided. The new path after crossing the rockfall would require about 300 m of new cables and pegs and bypass the rockfall on the left side directly to the top. I doubt PD Jesenice will go for such an investment.
