Depends on which side our "manch" will go, right, redbull?

Primož on the winter question.

Now it's not yet winter; in my case crampons didn't help, but would have harmed.
When hard snow comes, then of course real crampons, not those little knafl ones from belownasmeh

In which specialist mountaineering literature is the word little crampons used? I hope in none!

This can only be an emergency solution if we poorly planned the tour and those little crampons accidentally ended up in our backpack by mistake. Maybe from some previous trip to Pohorje.

Regardless of which side manch goes up in winter, none is for small crampons and poles. Without ice axe definitely on no route.

My opinion is that small crampons are a good thing, just the terrain and snow must be suitable then it works, not to be underestimated. They are meant mainly for icy forest paths and also higher up, where there is no great steepness or slope. It is true that they have no front grip. You can get to many places with them, of course under suitable conditions; definitely real crampons are more suitable for steep slopes in the high mountains. In winter to Roblek, small crampons to the top, and from all other directions crampons and of course ice axe. City crampons for streets in my opinion are not suitable even for Trebnji vrh.jezik

In winter holy rule: crampons + ice axe and no other combinations. No crampons and poles or little crampons and poles. How will you stop in case of a fall with poles? You won't. So the only rule is ICE AXE AND CRAMPONS (real ones)!!!

Hi. Thanks to all for answers - well for the part I asked about. Yeah, last time up there quite some time ago so didn't remember how it is... That's why I asked... I wouldn't get into "little crampons". Magroman, I agree with you - well, you need to know when, where and how to use them. Anyway, changed plans, inquired elsewhere and got similar answers that it's OK... So today headed up - to wait for sunset on Roblek. Hoped (expected) OK conditions to also go to Veliki vrh. So now I can answer my own question on conditions for anyone planning to go up in the next days... Went from Roblek and on the path to the top really just a trace of snow, which poses no problems - at least afternoon when not frozen - think morning too with more caution bp. Was thinking if I would go with more snow. But then without proper gear - real crampons, ice axe (and knowledge) wouldn't go on this ridge mežikanje Asked because I know that many hills around 2000m in suitable conditions are OK even without real crampons and ice axe... Will find some such before a course I'm planning to attend this year (to show off a bit then - not for anything else velik nasmeh) A bit of fun must be there, right - LP everyone!!!

Does snow hinder the approach from Zelenica to Begunjščica?

We were there yesterday. Not much snow, but still caution isn't superfluous in some places. LP

What's the situation like over Poljska planina?

Today there was a sea of them from Poljska planina. Young, younger, old, even four-legged ones. The path is completely bare. To Veliki vrh the path is slightly snowy in two places. The snow was softened on my return, I don't know about the morning.
I went from Draga, over Roža to Planina Preval, then Veliki vrh, Roblek and to Poljsko and back to Draga. The path is completely fine. Maybe slightly wet in three places but still doable.
Very nice, the views in these autumn days are phenomenal.

Yesterday - 2.11.2014 - we went from Ljubelj to Zelenica and further towards Begunjščica. From Zelenica onwards there is quite a lot of snow on the trail and early in the morning it was icy too. Where you descend and over Smokuški plaz mostly bare, but still some snow towards the ridge. On the ridge we finally got the sun. Further to the summit bare. From the summit we descended to Roblek, then over Rožca to Preval and to Ljubelj.

Today to Begunjščica via Roblekov dom towards the sun. Path bare almost to the hut, into snow actually a bit lower. Before the hut full of visitors, further none. Tracks mostly from yesterday, path partly bare partly snowy, mainly nicely traced high above the fog sea. On return quite some hikers.

Today I went to Begunjščica from Draga via Poljska and Roblek. To Roblek path bare but muddy, further more new snow - at the top 15-20 cm. To the top these days (warm weather) possible without crampons and ice axe, no avalanche danger.
