We too were wandering around these parts yesterday and as always it's great...Golden larches and some snow base, to remind us autumn is here and winter is breathing down its neck...
Sometimes we also stop at the hut to drink something. Food seems absolutely overpriced here...Keeper Jože can get most supplies in dry conditions, and even in snow the army from Rudno polje often helps him (at least they used to with snowmobiles)...

During the time of golden larches it's especially magical in the mountains and today was really the right day to visit Debela peč. Snow just a sample, ice just enough that one has to be a bit careful. October sun warmed us quite pleasantly, so we sat outside at the hut on Lipanca.

In about a week or more they will surely still be in their places.

Yesterday visiting Debela peč. It was nice and scenic, not at all wintry regarding the path and sun energy, also no ice, so winter gear not needed. About impressions and views at the link http://stezeinsledi.blogspot.si/2016/01/najvzhodnejsi-dvatisocak-julijskih-alp.html

Does anyone have info from which starting points the path is most frequented? Or which is that most popular starting point?

Yesterday from Rudna dolina to Debela peč on skis. Conditions good, snow of all kinds. Hardened track to Lipanca, further difficult for hikers. More at: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/124938/

Has anyone been to Debela peč recently and what are the conditions - are crampons and ice axe still needed on easy paths?

planika77, I was on 27.3.2016 at Debela peč from Planina Zajavornik. Snow is fairly soft, no need for winter gear, but gaiters definitely come in handy because snow sinks quite a bit in places.

Today we climbed Debela peč from Kovinarska koča via hunter's path. It's well traceable and passable. Back via marked path to Krma valley.

On return we found parts of mountaineering gear in the gully. Hut keeper at Kovinarska koča said there was rescue there Saturday. If victim or companion reads this, can get gear back. Contact: franci.pogacar@gmail.com

Today (Saturday, 29.10.2016) we headed to this very panoramic peak. Path completely snow-free, larches still in autumn golden-yellow colors.
This time spiced up the Debela peč route with Okroglaž and Brdo visits. Great views everywhere.

To Pokljuka no problem via Bohinj too, no need to go all to Jesenice. Depends what's closer.

Yesterday at Debela peč. Weather ideal, windless at the top. On the path itself there are a few icy sections, so you have to watch out. Overall the path without special features. Small crampons stayed in the backpack.
