@ljubitelj gora: Why not? It's just like labeling that Hyundai cars (say model i40) aren't good cars or you can't even drive them.

This interests me too, why not Panasonic and Olympus?

I myself had Olympus and Canon and I can say I was more satisfied with Olympus than with Canon. True, I'm no expert

lp "interesting debate". I have Nikon p100 myself. Whoever wants to do video recordings too, should check what format the camera records them in; it's good if it records in the same one that the TV can read. No problem for computer. Nikon records in HD format .mov and there aren't many such TVs. Format conversion is usually slow and quality can suffer. Otherwise my camera isn't too big and not too heavy to carry on the side strap of the backpack. Optical zoom 26x and 10M pixels is quite sufficient. lp

When it comes to optical zoom, look for the widest angle possible (compacts now offer 24, maybe more), which is very handy for panoramic shots. The zoom factor is less important, as tele shots are more informative due to atmospheric haze anyway. Another thing is aperture. Compacts now have 2.8, even 1.8, which is great for low-light conditions. Third is the largest sensor area possible (standard 1/2.3").

Now cameras have improved sensors for low-light shots, no doubt about it, just show the money .

LG, now you've totally confused me, why not Lumix or Panasonic? Regarding TZ30 and 31, there's really no obvious difference, I don't know, I haven't noticed any big difference , so I'll probably just order this Lumix on mimovrste with an extra battery.

All are good, even Olympuses last a long time and are quality, and Sony which jumped to the top of the competition all at once, Panasonic boasts the Leica lens name, which became famous as a camera half a century ago etc.

Conclusion: I think whichever you buy won't let you down

What does white balance presets mean? TZ30 has 4 white balance presets, TZ31 has 7, what does that mean?

If you assume the data on that site is accurate. Otherwise, I think it means the number of preset values for color adjustment (like "cloudy", "daylight", "flash", etc.). Primary is usually AWB (auto white balance). I think you're getting into too much detail. Mostly you'll shoot on AUTO anyway, so you won't worry about these things.

But it's good sometimes to change WB, especially when shooting in public lighting so the image doesn't turn green, or in artificial light so it's not too orange-red. Otherwise WB can be fixed on the computer, so it doesn't matter if the camera has 5 or 7 WB presets.
