Grintovec

Thanks for all the tips, it's clear you know the path well or have a good memory...

I'm the more cautious one of the pair, my buddy has done some courses; he's an alpinist trainee and to me seems a bit crazy (as usual for that trade), on Saturday he's going to ski Mojstrovka. Otherwise I have quite some experience with winter ascents, usually I've gone in the framework of larger organized groups with experienced guides, last year and this year more with buddies, though nothing so serious. Mostly I've gone in 'spring' months, when the snow was mostly predictable and reliable, in these months though I don't really have a feel for snow and always prefer to ask and check some other opinion on conditions, that's why I meant to ask more about the snow condition and suitability than about anything else, although your path tips are very welcome and useful.

I have no issues with turning back, it's almost always proven right, and Sedlo is a really nice destination anyway. Anyway, we'll see.

Mali Gobar described the approach from Kamniška Bistrica. I've been to Grintovec from Suhadolnik several times in winter. Here the problem is the approach Čez Taško, which is very exposed. Higher the path is easier. No need to go all the way to Kokrško sedlo, already before you head left on well visible passages to Spodnje Jame. Then left towards Streha, as described above.
For the first time it'd still be good to go with someone who knows this approach. This variant is also skied and in season usually trodden.

Sla, in winter conditions Taški can maybe be bypassed on the right, easier path mežikanje

@anonimni

You've shown more than enough maturity (judging by writing) to judge whether to go on or not. Snow is mostly windblown, there are parts completely icy, some parts also with drifted snow - so a bit of everything. Basically snow is suitable for ascent, so no fear about that - of course using all winter gear and large dose of caution. If you have a buddy 'from the trade' then all the more cool

Safe step,

Jure

I think the path from Kamniška Bistrica over Cojzova koča and further along the roof of course shouldn't be dangerous. Just watch the conditions and especially the possibility of avalanches. Some technical stuff I don't see here.

As the predecessor already said obligatory ice axe with crampons and at least some brains in the head. Leave poles at home. Poles don't go with crampons.

If you think without poles it won't go fitness-wise, better go somewhere else.

And don't be so afraid because there's nothing bad.

Well, "urarrr", it's true that it's technically not demanding. But precisely because of that sometimes taken too lightly.

Anyway this is from under the fingers of Mr. Fona, but still worth reading: Article.

Urarrr, the one without poles is barefoot. Logical to stow them away when/if conditions dictate.

I think nice weather on Wednesday, if only not too much snow. If someone wants to join, or if someone goes up.

Well, another winter classic todaynasmeh... and despite the morning looking really gloomy, the day up high gave a lot. Started in KB, could drive to the lower station but most left cars a bit above the "boulder" Žagana peč. Already forgotten how the path draaaags to Kokrsko sedlo, there first juhuuu views which opened with height. Roof also longer every year hehe, but views today phenomenal, and blowing just a little, but for Grintavec that's nothingvelik nasmeh. Weather hot, snow all kinds and ideal for making slips all kindsjezen, so descended without crampons.
Day was really fairy-tale...nasmeh

Wonderful pictures! You had a beautiful day that won't be forgotten. I wish you many more such ascents and, of course, much health and personal happiness in 2012 and safe steps, good luck.

Bravo Rozka! To get to the roof and touch the sky, not everyone can do that, even such a tough guy.nasmeh

Bravo Rozka for accurate description of today's conditions and nice pics. Almost don't dare add mine!
Hard to believe we didn't meet on Grintovec today..... Only 10 of us. Weather and conditions really excellent, even for me 50++ veteran to the top from lower station in under three hours. Walked even without shirt, like summer.
two of 10 went along the steep ridge path1

Rozka, I'm really glad you're back in our parts. All congrats for the choice of goal and fairy-tale pics.
Also congrats to the veteran who yesterday surely wasn't just @opazovalec but an active player in the fairy tale.

Also today nice, ideal conditions, views to Snežnik... Also from Suhadolnik the path passable without issues (thanks Sabina and Tone!) More on photos tomorrow...mežikanje
Just a few days ago looking like this from home towards...1
The morning promised a nice day.2
At that time warm rays were already warming the summits of Turska gora and Brane. And my back too!3
Winter still life at Kokrsko sedlo: hut in winter sleep, track well trodden, wind turbine in forced rest.4
This time along the pilgrim path.5
Winter fairy tale with Kalški greben in the background.6
View towards home, which was this time in fog under Zasavski Triglav.7
And also to Storžič, which didn't stay alone on such a beautiful day either.8
Towards the summit. Half an hour more.9
View towards Skuta, Turski gora, Brana, Planjava, Ojstrica...10
Kamniška Bistrica Valley still in fog, Velika planina not.11
Over Kočna to Triglav...12
For now still nicely trodden.13
Sv. Andrej.14
Still enough pasture for chamois, as there is very little snow for this time.15
And the descent from Kokrško sedlo.16

Today afternoon from Suhadolnik over Dolge stene to Grintovec. Conditions on the ridge excellent. Descent over Streha (before dark gnilec). Hard darkness caught me above Taško, so descended the hunter's trail instead.

To all heartfelt hribovkam and hribovcem I wish in 2012 much health and nice views.

Good luck.
