Jalovec

Every summer typical unusual questions about gear arise.
At every snowfield crossing you have to assess:1. what the snow is like (hard, soft, what's below, steep edges), 2. what slope we cross and 3. what the snowfield exit is (flat, rocky...).
Then decide yourselves based on experience how to cross it. But know that when we slip on snowfield we slide without holds like a helpless child and chances to stop are very small. So always have ice axe ready in hand for safe crossing, because only with it we will correct the slip mistake.

Thanks Viharnik for advice. Today I was on Jalovec with winter gear. Path is dry except under the very wall of Jalovec there's snowfield which was icy on my arrival. Wouldn't dare cross without ice axe. When snow softened it was better.nasmeh

Great, brarut, you did it well, safety is always in first place. I also hiked a bit around Grintovec today, report tomorrow.mežikanjenasmeh

Has anyone gone to Jalovec from Tamar direction, what's the path like to Škrbina and Kotovo sedlo, wonder if there's still snowfield under Škrbina, cos last year it was still there in August and me and my climbing mate barely found passage under snowfield. Group arranging ascent, so asking.

There's only Jalovčev ozebnik or couloir where snow lies most of summer.velik nasmeh

I have in mind this path that's bolded on the pic.
The ˝hardest˝ path to Jalovec, which is secured and still has a snowfield early in summer!1

There is the Jalovška škrbina, which goes further over the wall of Goličica. If there are more of you, some rope won't be superfluous for crossing to the wall across the width of the lower ozebnik, then an ice axe to carve steps.

Regarding that a circular variant from Dom v Tamarju to Jalovec would be made, I'm interested which path you recommend for ascent and which for descent?

-Kotovo sedlo
-Jalovška škrbina

Thanks nasmeh

I'm wondering if there's still any snow from the direction of Zavetišče pod Špičko to the summit of Jalovec.

The path from Zavetišče pod Špičko over Ozebnik is dry and well secured. The snowfield is only under the wall of Jalovec, which needs to be crossed carefully.

Well, we reached Jalovec, we started very early, went towards the bivouac at Kotovo sedlo to the top and return on the same path, no winter equipment needed, protections are fine, .... super company, some new, some already known.
