Jalovec - loop from Tamar

Regarding past suggestions and local debates on which path from Tamar to take up and down, ... in pictures and words some snapshots from Saturday's ascent - this time up: Tamar - Veliki kot - over Jalovško škrbino and Goličica - Jalovec, descent on the west side (above Loška Koritnica) - below Mali Jalovec - to Kotovo sedlo and back to Tamar. For the last descent from Kotovo sedlo you still have two options: past the bivouac in Mali Kot or down the scree to Veliki Kot.

Yeah, the road to Planica - before the barrier to Tamar, under the ski jumps or over the construction site, has become quite a complicated parking adventure.
In Planica - caution: just one big construction site1
this will probably be the new info and media centre2
plenty of new ski jumps3
driving ban to Tamar stands in the old place4
... road underfoot and on foot to the start in Tamar - you can choose between two roads, ... but on foot5

On Saturday 19.9. from Trenta to Jalovec. Forecast bad, actual weather excellent, no wind and fog only in Tamar. Plan over Jalovško škrbino up and past hut down. Missed turn for škrbino, turned out perfect as we lightened packs at hut. Path from hut demanding. Much free climbing. For me hardest before ridge exit (very steep, full of scree) and ridge path (very airy and narrow). Expected easier path. Hut friendly caretakers Nada and Marija served great ričet and jota, then strudel. Great trip.

Happy solitude, somewhere I read those words by Matjaž Kmecl with friends under larches. Today met no one on path to Jalovec. Parking in Zapodno empty though started ascent at eight a.m. Not cold at all, pleasant for walking, only clouds busy today. Larches golden. Markings renewed, diligent markers. Summit book damp, don't know if it will hold. Five hours from Zapodno over Mali kot to the top. No snow, some patch under summit, so unnecessarily carried crampons.

Darinka, I like that weather isn't important to you and solitude doesn't bother you, that you know how to enjoy the path itself, you set out and go without burdens and special expectations. You're made of the right stuff! I'll keep looking forward to your posts!

Thanks Ločanka. I remember someone from the borderland, when we had to turn back on the ascent to this mountain because of snow in early summer. He said, you know I don't intend to die yet, I'd rather turn back and that's right.

Today from Vršič to Jalovec. No snow to the hut under Špička, but it starts higher under Veliki Ozebník, fixed ropes are almost everywhere above snow. When we reach Jezerca there's snow and it was icy all the way. Also further when the path from the notch joins there's snow (at 10am it was quite soft)... also on the ridge itself there's snow.... but on the ridge itself it poses no problems.

Today I was on Jalovec from Tamar via the path over Kotovo sedlo. From the saddle to the summit there are snow patches in quite a few places. Until 10am it's mostly frozen, then the sun comes around the corner and softens. Before the first fixed cable there's a gully with frozen snow all day - about 15m, can't bypass it. So winter gear is almost essential, on that first frozen snow patch I used crampons too, elsewhere the ice axe came in handy. Otherwise wonderful tour, view superb, warm enough that I went from Tamar to the top and back in short sleeves. If anyone's heading up - happy trails.

The beautiful Jalovec was a bit too demanding for today's conditions. A beautiful night in Tamar all the way to the entrance to Ozebnik was illuminated by the moon.
The trail I followed only to the beginning of the scree was the only indicator of human presence. From there on, I'm pulling my own track through Ozebnik to the saddle above Jezerca. The snow is literally like sand in an hourglass. No grip, trudging, and breaking through for a treat, but the lower rocks are nicely covered with ice. From Jezerca onward towards the summit, everything is blown off and pleasant for walking. But I was running out of time and turned back for family lunch.

Saturday's Jalovec, continued to Kotovo Saddle and descended along the marked path to Mangrt. Climbed to Bivak Tarvisio and continued towards Vevnica-Strug, all the way to Srednja Ponca. On the return, got lost among fallen trees and a slightly changed path in the dark forest. In the end, everything was fine.

peter46 14.12.2015 But do you even realize at all what kind of nonsense you are doing??? such a tour in December when the day is the shortest??? and the fact that you "got lost" and they RESCUED you doesn’t seem controversial to you at all??? and your closest ones don’t say anything to you and mom just calls GRS and that’s it??? ... sooner or later there WON’T be a happy ending but at least then don’t publish all this nonsense and boast about it??? actually I can’t believe such total irresponsibility!!!

gj 14.12.2015 ... it is happening to you. Youth, what I would give for it. Good luck, and sense.

redbull 14.12.2015 Do you know, Peter, because of people like you it is smart to publish anything. If nothing else you have something to do during the week. Gnawing section. But don’t throw everything into the same basket. But you can explain to me what was irresponsible here? Good luck

SamoK 14.12.2015 peter46, it is funny if such a ..., as you are, judges someone who lives in a completely different dimension from you.

knap4227 14.12.2015 Peter you get a plus, as for dimensions, Samo also has the right. Regards

alpine.
14.12.2015 Poor rescuers. Abroad you would pay heavily for such a rescue.

Smetar 14.12.2015 ... the fact is that some also train and can afford longer tours than others, as they will complete them in shorter time. On a shorter day he was prepared (flashlight, GPS watch). Debating whether this is safe behaviour or not is (in my opinion) pointless, since if the watch hadn’t failed, he wouldn’t have "got lost"... But of course I think we don’t go exploring terrain in the dark. What should his family say?
I think this blog wasn’t written to boast about how they rescued him. He gave his experience and conditions that might come in handy for someone.
Good luck and safe to all!

JusAvgustin 14.12.2015 I’m surprised you didn’t start the tour on Slemenova špica. You know, a little circle above Tamar, now when the day is the longest...

Daaam 14.12.2015 Let’s take popcorn and enjoy

nincokl 14.12.2015 I agree that this redbull lives in his own dimension..but I don’t know why then he calls GRS into this ... dimension. He and his relatives should realise that with this behaviour he endangers not only himself but also potential rescuers..redbull I think you’re already old enough to come to your senses and stop this extremism and enjoy the hills-mountains in some normal mountaineering way,,,because know that you’re not some trained alpinist...Humar was a very experienced alpinist and sadly ended tragically...SENSE IN HEAD..!

dragon 14.12.2015 To me the path from Tamar to Srednja Ponca seems great. Although extremely steep like few others and in the dark probably not at all pleasant, especially if you stray, otherwise super, varied path.

lino 14.12.2015 Redbull, you’re insanely brave. You push the boundaries of the possible. Luck is on the side of the brave. Maybe you’ve already a bit exceeded the level of the initiated and the reactions are accordingly. Good luck, carefully and bravely onward. Regards

capraibex 14.12.2015 Consciously pushes into trouble, knowing that a phone call to a known number will save him.

viharnik 14.12.2015 We can never judge youth and energy negatively.
Based on general own experiences of earthly life, I would advise Redbull from the heart to always stay a bit back and always have some golden reserve in every moment. Walking on the knife’s edge is really only for rare chosen ones who know their own depths of spirit well, live in constant concentration, train in skills, meditate. For example, I walk in the mountains where it just pulls me, I don’t look too much at the clock, I haven’t been to Kredarica for a long time and so what. Also Silvo one winter wasn’t in the mountains for a few months. Then they asked him, how come? He answers them: On climbing walls I move well, I’m satisfied within myself and with the company I have. Now, if it were popular to go to Kočevski rog to watch bears, then we would compete who will go more times into the woods. Do what fulfils you, where your heart is, to find the essence of spirit.
Regarding safety in the mountains, Igor once said very well that there is generally never any. But we can improve it with good physical and mental preparation, good knowledge of what we’re getting into, monitoring snow conditions on tours directly in the mountains. Further, you need to have some luck too.

tslok1 14.12.2015 This is modern mountaineering, if it goes, it goes, otherwise we’ll call GRS. And not even a year has passed since the accident under Triglav! One would think it would teach him. Few are "reborn" as it was given to you, it won’t always go like that!

Irina 14.12.2015 @Deyan .... don’t you think you’re stretching this rubber too much? You can and know, but you could slow down your pace a bit, if not for anything else for the sake of those who always come to meet you when all technology fails.

urbancek 14.12.2015 And here we are again, probably a few pages of the forum will be written again, and probably not much smart in between. I don’t speak often, but this time for a change I will.
First things first, don’t mix apples and pears. One is an accident when a person gets injured so they can’t proceed. Something else is if someone gets lost. Although I don’t excuse Redbull for straying from the path, hand on heart, the path from Srednja ponca to Tamar is not exactly a gem in terms of traceability, especially in poor visibility or at night. Besides, it’s not really visited, then there are fallen trees etc.
Anyone who knows these areas and has done something in the mountains knows what it means to do such a tour, especially in these mixed conditions, which are very tricky. Maybe then we could at least show a bit of respect to Redbull for that. Moralising about GRZS is popular, but they just rescue anyone who needs help. And at this point we could conclude and leave the decision about how someone was negligent in their mountain activity to the authorities responsible for that. Imagine someone goes e.g. to some easily accessible mountain hut, looks too deep into the glass, tumbles down on the way down and injures something and they come to rescue him. For comparison, we can add Redbull’s very demanding tour, which he almost sovereignly completed to the end, but at the end of it unfortunately strayed. What is now more horrible and morally controversial?

viharnik 14.12.2015 Dejan is laughing at us now
Next year in December he’ll start a bit earlier and everything will be fine.
Urbanček has very well argued and balanced the discussion. In the end we are all just people, we all sometimes make intentional and unintentional mistakes, we don’t even see them, so don’t judge others and rather help them.

zvezdan 14.12.2015 It looks like some computer game. When the damn Garmin fails and it really doesn’t go anymore then press Esc.
The rescuers could take him with them on a rescue sometime as a reward, like in the middle of the night, when he’d rather do something else...

peter46 14.12.2015 One of the rescuers wrote: "At 20:58 the caretaker of the home in Tamar Mare calls me. He says that the mother of a mountaineer called him, who was headed to the mountains above Tamar namely to Srednja Rateška Ponca. After calling her phone, he gives me the mountaineer’s number. I call the guy, who says he was descending from Srednja Ponca, obviously missed the path somewhere and found himself on demanding terrain and can’t descend because of the darkness, but he sees the lights of the hut in Tamar. ...

SamoK 14.12.2015 Quite a bit of malice has accumulated here, ...

Petr 14.12.2015 If you don’t know or don’t go first, from Tamar up, then in the dark, where there’s wreckage, in my opinion there’s no chance to find around, back to the path. Such a "detour" it is.
Everyone would search and go left first rather than climb right through beech and downhill back to the path.

andrej.bg 14.12.2015 Personally I have nothing against courage and even risk and I read the entire report with interest, it just bothers me that nowhere did I notice even a thought to thank the guys from GRS, who that night surely had smarter things to do.

livelife 15.12.2015 Anyone can have something like that happen, especially with such fitness, you can quickly set too hard a goal. The only thing that’s also controversial for me is that he could at least pay a bit of attention to GRZS, since apparently last year he didn’t exactly stretch with thanks to the people who saved his "ass"!

redbull 15.12.2015 This last sentence of livelife is good. I’ll remember it or rather forward it to the main one in the accident, so he can see ... I hope the discussion won’t end quickly, since it’s only Tuesday. I don’t read many books, but I’m a fan of your comments and just bravely onward. Thanks again for the nice thoughts
good luck

viharnik 15.12.2015 Redbull is a mountaineer and likes to walk in the mountains. With such a big tour I think he didn’t simulate on the descent. Unknowingly he encountered a natural obstacle that erased his orientation on the path, together with the night. We have GRS ranks to intervene sometimes, since that one-hour walk really shouldn’t be a big problem, they are a specially trained rank. What will it be in winter if we think like that! It’s easiest to gnaw at someone and one-sidedly claim some right.

urarrr 15.12.2015 I see that here there’s still a majority of heavy experts...
Some notice even wrongly tied shoes, a few days later the same ones ask how to use crampons...
I see that the human mind truly knows no bounds RegardsM

slavkoa 15.12.2015 I hope you’ll soon end this discussion, what Dejan did right and what not. Only he knows that. I wouldn’t judge him, since I’m also a bit inclined to extremism, but so far I haven’t called anyone for help. Even when once on descent from Oltar I fell and got injured, I limped to the valley myself with the help of my better half. To Dejan I would wish many more nice ascents and of course extensive reports and photos from these paths, to all commentators I just lay on the soul that only those who have never sinned should judge a person about his sins. Good luck to all.

JusAvgustin 15.12.2015 Yes, just defend him. So he’ll repeat something like that as soon as possible... Regarding thanks it’s not worth wasting words. Another one for whom it’s self-evident that when it doesn’t go anymore you just call GRS and they "escort" you to the valley. If he’s already such a guy as you have him he could perfectly bivouac and spend the night, and in the morning find the descent. Obviously Trojan donuts aren’t such a boost. Maybe it would do you good to once really screw up big time and be alone with yourself and ask about the meaning of your doing. You have crazy fitness just ... And no offense but for me you’re a plain irresponsible kid.

Janez Seliškar 15.12.2015 Besides trained muscles and good lung capacity, some knowledge is also needed for a successful end of the tour.

andrej78 15.12.2015 Juš I rarely agree with you, but this time completely!

polh 15.12.2015 He was appropriately equipped, even a light in case darkness catches him. What would the comments be if he hadn’t strayed from the path and came to the valley normally in dusk/dark with a headlamp? Best to force everyone to go to Šmarka and similar hills so nothing happens to anyone, one way or another

lijaneja 15.12.2015 Juš, these sentences just confirm that you’re truly a mature person and one can trust you boundlessly on a demanding tour, even though you’re not much older than this wretch.
Sadly there are all too many commentators who defend him and even more fuel his walking on the edge.
On FB I wrote to him without beating around the bush that nature shakes off such sooner or later, and he reacted as if the debate was about Trojan donuts...

korl 15.12.2015 On the next call for help better introduce yourself with a fake name. So the rescue leader won’t say: guys, we got a call from redbull. Let’s go for him. But meet only in the morning at six, so he’ll have a little time overnight to think

turno 15.12.2015 Very very rarely I speak up but this is really funny.
Anyone who roughly knows the planned path set in Dean’s head (he even took a light just in case) would have something more in the backpack. Of course first you need to have ... If he expected dusk/night, he SHOULD expect the possibility of bivouac too. OOPS, MISTAKE, then a slightly bigger backpack is needed, and it’s much better to sleep at home in a warm bed. Men, guys who plan to spend the evening their way then go, into the dark cold night. Someone (in this case the red bull), just wants home to warmth, of course he couldn’t carry a little food, warm clothes and maybe a bivouac bag (DON’T SAY THEN SPEED IS ENDANGERED), all together weighs at most 2 kg. In the eyes of mountaineers he quickly gains the reputation of irresponsible and self-important "savage"

Just as we worry for Dejan, surely and certainly the Moms and wives of the guys and men who went after this young ... worry too. And rescuers are VOLUNTEERS and not on duty waiting for calls from the lost. They like to help, but they also like a public word of thanks and praise.

BT88 15.12.2015 I don’t know Dejan personally. The man gave a description of the tour he did and I don’t know where the problem is here. Well he got a bit stuck as it happens to each of us sometimes everyone solves their situation their way. Some call others bivouac etc... The tour is tough for this time the guy is good here there’s nothing left but .... if you’re home watching tv you’ll hardly add anything to descriptions.

ms_primoz 15.12.2015 what they rescued you again??? and again for nothing €?
you can be lucky you’re in Slovenia...
p.s. I recommend you read some book....when you do, you’ll know why.

SamoK 15.12.2015 you can be lucky you’re in Slovenia...

so at least from you and those like you I would expect a bit different debate.... if you want to help him you have pm or something else...
I agree you can bivouac and stuff.... but you know if you’re daily in the hills you have much greater chances of some slip than if you’re a few times a year... and you know that too...
and you also know that this hammering here doesn’t help... well it didn’t for you, and it won’t for him, or for me no... will no... but in a few years... it comes by itself emso and that ... and you know that too... right

Klepar 15.12.2015 When we came to the club at 16, sharpened like little goats that from excess energy jump straight into the air we quickly got it on the pič***. I won’t forget the saying: It’s easier to be a good alpinist than an old alpinist!
Obviously some aren’t taught even by a 200m fall from Mali Triglav about objective dangers in the mountains, let alone go to some proper course, of which there are unlimited in the 21st century. Filling ego on forums and social networks is obviously a stronger passion than loving oneself...

Serznoz 15.12.2015 Excuse me, but I really don’t understand those who defend him. Things repeat for the man, gladiators just want his repeated blog entries. Those who smarten that we all risk in the mountains, don’t distinguish that from thoughtless challenging. Sooner or later it will happen that the next opportunity won’t be given to him anymore. His head works as it works, as before the Triglav fall, no ..., ego controls it. Definitely doesn’t go up equipped for stops, only for movement. Such should be forbidden to go to the mountains. ...

viharnik 15.12.2015 Yes, with Turno, and the last two comments there are some pure arguments for guidelines of winter mountaineering.
In winter you always approach the mountains with additional warm equipment and all accompanying winter gear. If nothing else, with such equipment we can help a random mountaineer too. In winter there are no quick traverses and walks with 5L backpack. Sometimes it’s good to take double gloves, underhat, bivouac bag, down jacket, cooker etc., depending on conditions and tour length. I myself in winter always adapt the tour to still daylight visibility, because from experience I know what night wandering looks like, even with a light in the mountains. In this I give you complete right and you always need to be aware that we’re not the only ones in the mountains who necessarily need help from GRS and so already before the tour in preparation reduce this possible burden on rescuers.

.alpine. 15.12.2015 It can happen to anyone to get stuck, lost, but he’ll pay for the rescue himself.

peter46 15.12.2015 what’s the difference between Ambrožič’s rescue years ago and this one from Dejan? Ambrožič paid this one won’t or what? if I’m not mistaken Ambrožič had more knowledge and ..., who by the way off public the whole GRS laughs at him (but who of course has to help and not judge, they can think their own)
as Juš said – why ... didn’t he bivouac, wait alone for morning and rescue himself from the situation he caused himself? oh because having mandatory equipment is too heavy for the backpack in which a donut with chocolate goes???
and mom will call every time he won’t be home by cartoon??? are you a guy or not – the fact that mom calls grs actually reveals all the misery of Dejan’s doing, irresponsibility, immaturity, egoism without compare. given the madness he does (madness in the sense of ignorance, unpreparedness for the tour, inexperience with serious terrains etc), I sadly have the feeling that this will soon sadly not end well – the elastic just snaps once.

reebitz 15.12.2015 It’s nice to have something to eat with you, some home salami, a bit of cheese, pickles, home bread, thermos with tea, a little home shot, water, fruit, something sweet, double gloves, down jacket, hat, matches, swiss knife, a bit of rope, something to change, first aid, headlamp,.... and that’s full combat equipment. And don’t forget to mention axe, crampons and helmet.
But it’s completely each individual’s decision what he’ll drag with him uphill.

pikica1 15.12.2015 What will he pay, how do you mean? I understand these rescues here like this, if you’re uninjured and they rescue you with helicopter then you pay. If you’re uninjured and they rescue you the classic way you pay nothing, because rescuers help just for God’s sake.
But if you get injured it’s free even with helicopter rescue.
But maybe I’m wrong, correct me so I won’t be mistaken.

Bobaje 15.12.2015 You’re right.

GregorC 15.12.2015 If you get injured and they rescue you with helicopter it’s "free" if you have paid health insurance (mandatory and additional), because in this case it counts as treatment or intervention same as in case of traffic accident, illness... The bill is covered by the health insurance company. That’s why the "problem" arises with helicopter rescue of uninjured, because in this case the insurance doesn’t cover costs. otherwise you can also get a bill.

peter46 15.12.2015 and Čokl got a bill for "camping" on Rjavina, where he was prepared for everything, equipped, didn’t bother anyone and brought a whole bunch of great photos. that guy behaves maturely but is also an extremist and walks on the edge – what this ... with his squatting in bushes didn’t do anything wrong and actually won’t pay anything and some even make a hero out of him??? for ...!
mom, if you’re reading – no one is even a little ashamed of how Dejan’s year started and ended??? only in bananistan can ... be tolerated

lino 15.12.2015 What’s the charm in not introducing additional insurance for mountain rescue. There are enough insurance experts to compose such a contract or copy the conditions from our northern neighbours. Maybe then there would be more order in the mountains. Or am I wrong and only those who honestly admit they got stuck and call for help should pay (example of mountain runner Ambrožič). Regards.

urbancek 15.12.2015 That he has no experience with serious terrains??! That’s a statement yeah... Do the tour he did on Saturday and report how jokingly easy it seems to you...
If in the mountains something tragically ends for someone sometime, that’s the individual’s matter, since everyone disposes of their own life. That’s not a matter of this forum and various comments...

simobf 15.12.2015 I constantly follow you and admire your feats..but now I’ve changed my opinion a bit because this is really ...why call GRS if you consciously put yourself in danger and then boast about it?..this should be payable!

1mitjas 15.12.2015 Rescue Srednja Rateška Ponca
12. 12. 2015
At 20:58 the caretaker of the home in Tamar Mare calls me.
Half an hour later Marko, Gaber and I are already in Tamar. Marko calls the mountaineer, who confirms he sees the car lights and shines back with headlamp. Marko and I agree he’s somewhere left below the steel cables and relatively close to the path. Marko forbids him any further movement and to wait for help. All three of us take the marked path to Ponca. The path is snowy, but we don’t need crampons, higher it’s even more and more bare, even higher there’s hardly any trace of snow. Yeah this December is weird. More team comes to Tamar, who will wait for further instructions. Marko decides two more rescuers should follow us namely Nejc and Klavdij equipped with new Led Senser lights. Light will be very welcome in the pathless where the mountaineer wandered. The path is steep, probably even one of the steepest and marked in our Julians. The path is illuminated by "headlamps" and millions of stars. In fierce tempo we hardly notice the beauty of the starry night. After an hour and a half of walking we reach the area below the steel cables, at this height it seems to us we saw the mountaineer’s light. We shine up, left, right. No response. I climb left to rocky ridge and shine into the basin below myself and shout at the top of my lungs-nothing. When ideas run out Marko surprisingly shouts he sees the light. Super, but where! Far on the right side looking down and somewhere two hundred height meters lower!? Far, too far from the path and that in complete pathless. On that terrain only chamois find themselves. We can’t believe we so misjudged the location when we observed the light from Tamar, obviously darkness did its thing. Marko and I descend deep into the basin on slippery scree, Gaber waits for us on the ridge to later help us find the way back with light. From the basin we have to to the ridge, which might allow better determining the mountaineer’s location. We traverse sparse forest, some smaller screes and with some slalom between boulders reach the foot of the ridge, which is all overgrown with pines. Anyway we have to get to the ridge. We wade into complete pines, and if there are difficulty ratings about it it would get 10. We try at different ends, always doomed to failure. We have a stronger light with us, which somewhat eases searching but without success. When options run out, Marko gives the idea that it would be best to find the chamois path that leads through pines, that would be the best solution in the given. On those few patches of snow there are huge traces, but only one that’s somewhat similar to chamois path and indeed on it we find passage to the ridge. Sometimes, despite digital age, the best are primal forms of "pathfollowing". With calls we determine we’re no longer far from the mountaineer, and when we reach the ridge, we spot him right below us, we sigh with relief. How the mountaineer strayed so deep into impassable thicket he doesn’t know himself. But it’s true that the path in the little forest below steel cables somewhat gets lost, maybe he strayed there from the path. Comforting is the fact that he’s not injured nor hypothermic and in good condition. Well, anyway, need to climb back to the path, from where Gaber, Nejc and Klavdij shine to us. Beams of light from new lights take care that day is made in the basin, which eases our ascent back to the path. In complete windless and relatively warm night we descend to Tamar, where we arrive at 2:30. In the hut we refresh and return to the valley to deserved sleep. The mountaineer sleeps in the hut in Tamar, which is much better than driving a car at this hour, since he was on the way already from four in the morning the previous day. For the goal that day he chose namely Jalovec and the entire ridge from Kotovo saddle to Srednja Rateška Ponca.
For successful rescue without consequences the credit goes to the mountaineer’s good physical preparedness, mild weather and Marko’s idea about primal "pathfollowing".
In the morning some more lounging in bed suits me, when on the mobile it displays: "Leg break Tamar, assembly immediately!!!"….

carniolus 15.12.2015 I’m shocked, I admit. But not because he got lost. That can happen to anyone. I too have wandered at night several times. I solved such mental distress with content from the backpack. I’m shocked how lightly such feats are taken. In winter part of my equipment is mandatory also tent and sleeping bag (not to list other mandatory winter equipment, and of course also food, burner + half kg gas, pot, photo equipment and other stuff), and not even approximately on such a demanding tour as redbull did. Where are the clothes yet...Yes and then the backpack is 20 kg, that literally tears the straps.
Redbull, you’ve long outgrown these our mountains. Go to Himalaya and equip yourself as befits.

SamoK 15.12.2015 It’s interesting to read the calm, pleasant and completely non-accusatory writing of the rescuer, while "couch" mountaineers would hang Dejan on the first lamppost. Really not clear how ... you have to be to spit so on someone who found himself in trouble.

tinky 15.12.2015 anniversary soon

pikica1 15.12.2015 @SamoK go buy yourself a couch already, so you can sit on it too. Now you’re squatting there on the floor like @redbull in the bushes, you’re all fingered. Save money a bit, slowly you’ll scrape together.

lino 15.12.2015 tinky, ... and then congratulations for 1st birthday.

..alpine 15.12.2015 Urbanček these are no experiences, experiences are if you turn back in time. Because there’s not enough time, because no suitable equipment for bivouacking, because too little liquid, fatigue, inattention, .... Juš you were once the same, remember friend ... when I came to the top, I knelt...Redbull at least called, you would ...

SamoK 15.12.2015 alpine, obviously you haven’t experienced a case when you simply can’t turn back. Really rich experiences!

JusAvgustin 15.12.2015 I still remember friend. And I admit the mistake. Because of inexperience and untouchability I was, true very close. But it sobered me and properly. So I went to AO but that’s another story, anyway it’s not about me and my adventures... It’s not about whether he called or didn’t call. Most are NOT capable of doing the set tour in two days in summer! Dejan went consciously into darkness aware he’ll descend in dark and alone, poorly equipped, not informed about descent alternatives, although true on this ridge there’s little of that..., in short completely inappropriately made and equipped for such a tour. That heats me, me and all who see what the core of the problem is. But if you worldlies want to jump again to my mistakes and how I was the same then go ahead. Obviously some up here know more about me than I know myself...
My first comment was cynical, OK. Doing a little circle above Tamar starting on MM and ending on MRP is SF, but obviously Dejan thinks he’s untouchable. What you don’t have knowledge and experiences you replace with madness and fitness. But sooner or later these two lines intersect somewhere... I wish you only that sense meets you as soon as possible, so it won’t be too late.
As it once almost was.
Regards, Juš

SamoK 15.12.2015 JusAvgustin, explain to me please why it HEATS YOU if Dejan does a stupidity. Others who are wormed because not all are like you can add their little pot too.

Daaam 15.12.2015 If the guy does stupidities let him keep them to himself. (that’s the difference between when on a tour something doesn’t work out and you’re forced to call or others call grs)..and this extension of the tour into ridge traverse with descent in dark and donut in hand, which he didn’t master is just stupidity. Not even close do I reach to Dejan’s knees in his feats, but I know all night tours I’ve done in life were "limited" to terrain I was up to. For my sake let him do what he wants, fact is he walks on a thin line... and yes far from such a ... that one could say hat off.. as has already been said –muscles and lungs aren’t everything.- Head is too audacious given knowledge and state of mind

SamoK 15.12.2015 Whoever walks all life on serious hills (and not only on "safe" bumps), will reliably, 100-percent despite all caution and experience sometime find himself in unforeseen, dangerous, tricky situation, perhaps also in such that he’ll need to be rescued. Dejan is just a bit more wound up and experiences that as a young man. It’s easy to be smart if you’ve never experienced anything truly daring.
Still I haven’t got an answer to the question why it bothers you so much if he’s different from you.

Daaam 15.12.2015 Differentness doesn’t bother me, I respect much more daring than me, but ego pumping via web portals bothers me!

lino 15.12.2015 JusAvgustin, but if you admit mistake and step back, then many among us must step at least two steps back. You’re the king of Martuljek group, me and quite a few mountaineers reach only to Ingot’s hut on Jesenje pasture or maybe to upper Martuljek waterfall. With respect Regards!

SamoK 15.12.2015 I mean, "ego pumping"???!!! If someone walks to Šmarna gora (and writes about it!!!), it’s ok, but if he does something that others here can only dream about, it’s "ego pumping". Really enviable ... conception of exceptional.

barbon 15.12.2015 But what are you shaking now for redbull it’ll teach him already-- donkey goes once on ice-- redbull twice to GRS.
Perhaps he already has some discount there? They don’t have many such ... to rescue them 2x yearly ...and year end isn’t yet

Daaam 15.12.2015 @SamoK I too am not a fan of daily publishing "house bump" (everyone has their own)but in this ego pumping at least you don’t do stupidities.. But if every day someone published how maximally fast one can drive on Celovška, I would say attention whore .. and such feeling I have for Dejan, only his polygon are hills and internet (one with the other)

SamoK 15.12.2015 I don’t doubt Dejan likes others’ attention (and gets it!!), still I don’t understand why that bothers anyone. His trip after all! In any case his posts are much more informative than the average here.

lino 15.12.2015 SamoK, if with the contemptuous comparison "If someone walks to Šmarna gora (and writes about it!!!)", you meant the legend of Šmarna gora Tinky, shame on you...

SamoK 15.12.2015 lino, you for reasons unclear to me strayed to a forum with which you have nothing in common. Maybe loneliness?

lino 15.12.2015 SamoK, much else is unclear to you.

VanSims 15.12.2015 @redbull: I’m envious of you for this tour in, for me, one of the most beautiful parts of eastern Julians, which I could barely manage in two long summer days. You in winter, in silence, without crowds, with views possible really only in winter... regal! I just devoured the lines of your blog and nice pictures.
@others: who called GRS? If you read well @redbull wavered between possibility of bivouacking (temperatures went in his favour) and someone coming to the path. Consequence of responsible act of informing home or fair relation to them was that "mom" called GRS. The guy can be so strong, brave, with sober head, in short guy from the parish, but he has "mom" with her maternal feelings and today we’re in 21st century society, where about such things "moms" decide in "good of their sons".
But let’s say this happened 50-100 years ago and that there were mobiles already then. Father would answer the phone. Father would say: bivouac it’ll teach you for next time! Maybe give some advice, encouragement,... maybe already on phone make a proper sermon. But our hero would probably then at home await some educational on the behind with belt, pole, whip,.... or with whatever. And that would be it! "mom" wouldn’t even come to the phone when it rang, let alone to word.
@SamoK, lino: the one who writes about walks to Šmarna gora, a page back proved he "knows how to write three words and paste a picture". Who should be ashamed?

viharnik 15.12.2015 Guys, what’s too much is too much, you have no tolerance and basic respect. Who of you would be happy with such slandering and public pressure on a fellow mountaineer. In essence everyone is different in their own way and that’s also the wealth of the creator, that he made each of us a bit different, so the world is more colourful. Dejan will sometime better coordinate visits to mountains. It’s harder for him when you lynch him so, for me it’s all the same what you say to me, because I’m in the centre where there’s nothing, not even ego to hurt it. But for him subconsciously on tours your slandering and insulting will echo, because you need to know in meditation to nullify this thing. Read a good and at the same time instructive composition of the rescuer, who impartially describes the course of help to Dejan.
Here let the period end and from here one needs individually (without discussions) learn manners and information, how to act more correctly in mountains, so undesired situations don’t occur.
Saints say that whoever is on this earth, is not for free by chance and smart for him is to use every time given to him, to perfect himself and rise from the mud of the world. After death only that counts.

Becar 15.12.2015 Look at them, how they’re at it again

peter46 15.12.2015 if Dejan was prepared for the tour, it wouldn’t end so that mom calls GRS – but with knowledge and appropriately equipped HE WOULD EXTRACT HIMSELF from the situation. he wasn’t injured and it happens to everyone to stray. but the difference is that a tour-prepared mountaineer solves the situation himself, a hunter for some more or less senseless records calls grs. well, mom calls him, really sad
the next feat will be what – PP in one go? actually it’s just a matter of time when Dejan will settle in Martuljek..
he’s not the only one doing such surely respect-worthy feats – Milan Hribar, Klemen Janša... people with ..., spiritually mature, correct to hills, himself, fellow people don’t need five-minute attention on the web because they do it for themselves and from their commitment to mountains that give them deep experience. For Dejan – checkmark on the list and hey to the next donut with chocolate? Has Dejan ever uttered anything else about hills than counting donuts chocolates etc?

ljubitelj gora 15.12.2015 Accidents in mountains happen every week, GRS has over 400 interventions yearly. Only Dejan Grm I don’t understand why you speak up and throw yourself in bad light. Instead of being silent and rather invest all that energy in thanks to GRS, but not via blog, fb, hribi.net, but personally. You’re not the only one who needed help, got stuck, I know quite a few alpinists who did and were rescued.

Viper 15.12.2015 But what’s with you, that you literally to the end badmouth someone who needed rescue or is that even necessary. I don’t even know why this topic exists or for publishing tours or for criticisms written 5 pages, just because of one rescue. Come on leave him alone, because you never know who will need sometime here also some rescue in mountains, because e.g. gets stuck, gets lost...
How would the others feel if rescuers rescued you in mountains and then the same happened as to Redbull.
I think there are many users here who simply aren’t for hribi.net.
I hope 5 more pages won’t be written, because then it’s really bottom, or let the site editor lock this topic for some time, if at all possible.
Well let’s see on my comment, how many criticisms, because I wrote this.
But what do you think, how Redbull feels and how he looks at you who wrote so much about him.

polh 16.12.2015 Some are 10x more bothered when they hear someone needed to be rescued than it bothers the rescuers themselves.

redbull 16.12.2015 nicely continue to the weekend there’s still a few days, then with new topic into new week. It’ll be fun again and I too already look forward to these comic things here. Well here you won’t see me much anymore.
good luck

korl 16.12.2015 good luck ..., just keep your word

redbull 16.12.2015 Well given the initiative of someone who I can already say gave a huge amount so I shouldn’t deprive you of joy, then probably I will speak up some more.

mukica 16.12.2015 You decided right..don’t let yourself be provoked by some individuals who don’t tolerate differentness and deal with Slovenian national hobby ENVY
Dejan good luck on all paths

knap4227 16.12.2015 It seems to me that fitness presents a smaller problem than "head", here you’ll have to arrange something and that’s what others want to tell you too. I don’t intend to gather additional fitness until I can beat marked times by half. But I’ll do this your praised tour next year, at another time, directly to Kotova špica and I won’t have any descent in dark. But here again something depends on "head" and has nothing to do with envy.
Regards, Matej

slavkoa 16.12.2015 Dejan, continue reporting about your feats, especially with photos, don’t take all comments maliciously, since probably most just worry a bit for your youthful mistakes, which can end tragically. Of course there’s also envy, that’s just Slovenian national sport. Don’t resent everything, but sometimes just heed some advice from us older ones. I did your tour myself a few years ago, but in opposite direction. I used almost the whole autumn day and all energy, so congratulations for the feat in winter, when everything is that much harder. Still just heed advice regarding winter equipment, since life is only one and unrepeatable. Good luck further.

Pi_is_exactly_3 16.12.2015 Redbull continue reporting! Your posts have great informative value regarding conditions. I also doubt any real rescuer would criticize you, since rescuers accept this duty with heart and desire to help (btw, that rescue description is really TOP, without criticism, I even sensed a bit of respect somehow).
But, it’s also impossible to go to hills and say you’re 100 % prepared; I don’t know who here lies to himself. Say, on ascent to K2 with complete preparedness there’s 25 % a person doesn’t return. And I don’t hear one general criticism to those who go there. Such is just human nature.
It would be super if some psychologist speaks up, to explain a bit from the standpoint of his profession this hunt against Redbull. Maybe negative comments have a lot to do with negative self-image...
Good luck to all!

SamoK 16.12.2015 The most horrifying is that it’s not about envy, but begrudging – much darker and more evil trait, of which on this forum there’s a bit more than Slovenian average ...

capraibex 16.12.2015 Maybe redbull doesn’t know winter time, important is to go..Rescuers wait prepared at every hour. And all up here who support him.

UROS1 16.12.2015 Please, talk about Jalovec and conditions on it and around it.
To colleague Redbull just this, if you’ll go take me please with you or so nicely report about conditions as you have until now. And safe step I wish you friend!

Planica - Jalovec (via Jalovški ozebnik)

Wishes are there to be fulfilled, and if the description helps someone else with a safe ascent, the purpose is undoubtedly achieved.
Up to the entrance to the ozebnik, winter equipment is not necessary (by own assessment). The ozebnik is poorly filled, but the passages are relatively still in their last breaths filled up to the summit part, where there are two more delicate rock jumps. The left exit is better filled and passable, then sunny fairy tale, we take off crampons at the big ozebnik (junction for Špička). Some snow plates and caution in snowy/icy steps to the summit.
Crystal in mixed conditions, but for me always majestic...this time especially smile

Classic summer tour, which of course doesn't mean you don't need equipment for winter ascents.

I start in Zapodnu at Flori, to TNP hut and further towards Mali Kot. Over the Goličica wall there is some snow only in the initial part, then less and less, then some more up to the top of Jezerc. To the ridge, as already described some snow patches below, ridge mostly bare.

I descended to Jezerca, on the traverse from Jezerca under Veliki Ozebnik equipment is necessary, because it's completely icy, lower less and less snow or more or less bare. Some snow still on the path to larches, then bare and dry as pepper big smile.
