With a colleague to Jalovec from Tamar. Regarding the snow, the biggest problem can arise at Jalovška škrbina (4m). Descent to Kotovo sedlo, into the gully towards V Koncu and from there towards bivouac Tarvisio. We ascended to M.K. Mangrt as I have many times myself. From there over Huda škrbina to Mangrt. Met Igor with whom it was nice to chat. Over Nogara direction Alpe Vecchia to hut Zacchi, where we refilled our water. From there ascent to Visoka Ponca, descent to Tamar back to ski jumps. 3700m ascent-38km-11h

Hello,
If weather allows, I plan to climb Jalovec this weekend via Kotovo sedlo. Given accelerated July melting, anyone have current info on snow on traditional paths to Kristal (Kotovo sedlo, Škrbina, Shelter)?

No snow, maybe some left in smaller gully.
But can bypass it around.
Over Jal.skrbina need mandatory at least ice axe.

Last Trenta past the shelter and to the top of Špička, then to Vrh Zelenic (pathless to II. grade climbing). To Veliki Ozebnik and finally to Jalovec and back to the valley. Path ok except poor markings on Jalovec.

On Sunday on Jalovec. Route: Planica-Tamar-Kotovo sedlo-Jalovec-Špička-Vršič. Nice tour. In the morning Jalovec clear and majestic, soon enveloped in fog, at 15 o'clock clear again. Below and on the ridge of Kotovo sedlo strong and cold wind blew so long pants and gloves were handy. Path to Jalovec well laid out, safety gear where you really need them, terrain quite tough, scree, overhanging into Loška koritnica, like all paths to Jalovec this one deserves full respect. Self-belaying doesn't count for much. At the top fog but no wind, view a couple of seconds to Trenta Quite a few visitors - met acquaintance from a week ago on Jezerska Kočna. Stamp peeled aside but could stamp the logbook. Descent over the ridge which seems harder every time to me, more scree, even worse down from ridge - went down butt-sliding many times On Špička deserved beer, then quick hike to Vršič, hitched ride with compatriot who took me to Kranjska Gora. Nice tour worth repeating when the summit is clear.

Does anyone have any fresh info on the path over Kotovo sedlo to Jalovec due to fallen snow? I assume it might be frozen tomorrow, happy for any info.

The path to Jalovec via Kotovo sedlo is without issues (12.8). Likewise the path from Jalovec to Vršič, which we descended.
