This time Kamnik Saddle... the nicest part of the vacation, which ended on Sunday. But it has to be like that , sadly every good thing ends quite fast Early Sunday, gloomy weather in the valley. Full of enthusiasm, we slowly set off from the parking lot, our hope for plenty of sun rays to fuel us on the path to the saddle fading only at the end. We quickly gained height, and with it the amount of snow cover increased. Since I hadn't been here before, I let myself go with the flow. I only knew that the upper part of the path gets quite steep, but not that steep. Young and old were encouraged for the assault on the saddle, which is almost 1900m high. Actually quite high; after overcoming 1300m, it can compete with many peaks in our Alps. Despite the layer of fog that seemed endless, the walking was pleasant. Not too strenuous, just right for such conditions. The spots where we ascend steeply require more concentration on the return. Especially when the ground is slippery. Several times, the faint blue light above the treetops, barely noticeable at moments, convinced us that the weather was favorable to us today. That it was worth the effort for a dose of sun, we knew for sure just before Pastirci, where a descender passed on the good news. The sun is not far anymore. We walked even faster, our motivation increasing even more. At Pastirci, we took a longer break to refuel. What was lost still needs to be replenished; an empty sack doesn't stand upright . The path is well trodden; there have been quite a few people at Kamnik Saddle these days who paved the way for us. On a small clearing that somewhat reminds me of a corner in the Julian Alps, the sun shone on us. A new world opens up, which we love to visit and observe again and again. First, we ascend slowly in a zigzag, then straight up diretissimo. Literally. During the ascent, our feet slip on the surface several times; there are hardly any steps here. I try to make some so that the step is easier, firmer, and more confident. This way, I at least ease the path a bit for the companion behind me, with whom I make contact. It is easier after all if you can share the suffering with someone else . We ascend slowly, but we have plenty of time, so we're not in a hurry. I hear that I'm already close, just a few more minutes. They passed quickly, to my joy. We went straight to the winter room to refuel; it was too windy outside to expose ourselves. There are many of us who visited Kamnik Saddle for the first time. And how good we felt, since most of KSA was within reach. Above the sea of fog, we enjoyed a good hour before the difficult descent into the valley; we went to check the conditions on the other, Savinja side. We didn't feel much warm sun at the saddle; the wind was too strong. With slow, confident steps, we descended. By then, the surface had softened considerably, so even the small crampons didn't grip well. Ice formed on them soon, so I took them off quickly. They weren't any help; I trusted my boots more. Despite some painless falls on the butt, we reached the border relatively quickly. That border between sun and fog. We met quite a few more on the descent, despite the late hour. To those still in the fog's embrace, we enthusiastically passed on "sunny" greetings; they were happy to hear them. Of course, being in the sun on these foggy, gloomy days in the valley is wonderful. We descended according to the conditions; on some sections, you need to be quite careful. Nature in the fog belt also creates beautiful formations; we admired them several times. In good company, the descent passes quickly; it took us about 3h with all the stops. And I have done this one too. And I'll probably do it again if the opportunity arises; in winter time, I won't refuse it. Despite the top steepness, it made a strong impression on me. Now I have one more tick .
