Previous posts also encouraged me to go to Kamnik Saddle. Conditions excellent as written. Snow almost none to Repov kot turnoff (road to Jermanca unknown, all hikers parked below), more ahead, from Pastirci real February winter with strong sun. If you start early from home, especially mid path more icy. Brana and Planjava untouched, good so, know many accidents such conditions esp Brana. Visits today despite workday many.

I used nothing, many hikers had small 12 teeth crampons on (a la Veriga), even 4 teeth would be enough.

Janez wrote it quite right. You follow countless footprints of predecessors. The earlier you go, the harder they will be. Yesterday it pulled me up too, since the pleasure up there is so much greater when you look into the valley grayness.

Today I was up there. Crampons are almost necessary lower than Pastirji, from the junction to Repov kot. During the day, when the sun hits that part of the path, the snow (ice) partially melts, but refreezes overnight. The result is very hard ice (at least in very early morning hours), so it's really hard to walk without crampons. Almost impossible. Even later, when the snow (ice) is partially melted, the path is still very slippery. On descent I took off crampons a bit too early and regretted it quickly. Above Pastirji you can walk without crampons, but it's certainly easier with them, as there are icy sections here too (especially where it's well trodden), but conditions are better than lower down. Didn't need gaiters.

4.3.2017 - Snow is picking up nicely. Up under the saddle there is still hard snow, otherwise mostly south-facing everywhere. Conditions all in all weren't bad, except for the wind right under the summit that almost blew me away...

Upon my arrival, the doors were closed. I of course closed them behind me too, some predecessors apparently didn't.... and the result is visible in the picture.
