Kepa

Last year we did this path but in the reverse direction (recommend). We were on all peaks (Kepa, Gubno, Dovška Baba, Hruški vrh, Klek, Golica), i.e. almost always along the ridge. The tour can be done in one day, but by no means also back to the car, haha. Someone has to come pick you up. Without peaks it is considerably shorter time-wise, but still long. Plan an early start, nice weather, LOTS of fluids. Very little shade, almost none. Below Kepa 10 min of cables and pegs. Nothing special, but not exactly for children.

Thanks Chico, we'll try it, our daughter is 12 years old and she goes to the mountains, I meant more because of the tour length. We'll rather wait another month for more reliable weatherzmeden

Yesterday afternoon my friend and I were on Kepa from Erjavčev Rovt. Very nice path, completely dry, phenomenal views, lots of flowers - aurikels like you rarely see. Super hike, yesterday in complete peace - didn't meet a soul. In places due to the crumbling terrain a more cautious step is needed.

After exhausting recent weeks and almost sleepless nights (those of you with ninth-graders at home – emphasis on female mežikanje...you'll know what I mean...preparations for the prom these days are almost identical to wedding preparations mežikanjenasmeh...) we desperately needed a day off...something easy, nearby, something to let the "brains graze"...so we went to Kepa from Erjavčev Rovt...
No need to say much about the path at this time – nice, scenic, blooming....the start of the "heat wave" was already felt, but luckily a gentle breeze softened it...Quite a few visitors from the Austrian side on the summit, no Slovenian speech heard...A day and hike to recharge the batteries nasmeh....

Yesterday morning I parked in Erjavčev Rovt and headed towards Brvog. There I rested a bit, there the first steep part ends and a nice path leads to the junction at the water trough. There I turn left (straight to Mlinsko sedlo). Up to there the marks were even freshly renewed, after that junction there were practically none left. So I already think I've strayed onto some unmarked trail. Nevertheless, I continue around Plevelnica and reach the ridge, where the view opens to the Austrian side with Osojsko Lake.

Then the real thing starts: first a narrow ridgelet then a side ascent to Gubno, below it I see parked bikes. Who pushed bikes up this ridge... zmedenzavijanje z očmimežikanje Well, I get the answer after descending from Gubno when the real real thing begins. I see cyclists with helmets descending chimneys on the opposite side of the gully. We meet in it. The exit chimney is no joke and then I understand why those cyclists went through it very slowly and one by one. Besides the steepness, it's all extremely crumbly as befits the Karavanke. Later I see them descending from Gubno. Where I walked extremely cautiously,... well, looks like they master it! mežikanje

After visiting Dovška Mala Kepa (by the way, the ascent might really be easy as described here on hribi.net, but descent requires some caution) the next hard part awaits me. After some relatively easy fixed protections follows crossing exposed and crumbly slope. No path visible, no marks and so I stray a bit into the rocks. mrk pogled I carefully descend back to the path and reach the saddle, descend from it and join the Austrian path which leaves me another 10 min to the top.

On the top there were two Austrians and one Frenchman. For one of the Austrians it was the first Frenchman he's seen in the mountains! zavijanje z očmimežikanje I sit, walk to the second cross marking the entry to the ridge path on the Austrian side (Nur für Geübte!) and then to our summit, where the stamp and metal box without logbook and lid stand alone. So I have to sign the log on the Austrian side! jezen

Time for descent and from the saddle onwards the path seems a tiny bit harder than in the opposite direction, not sure if it was just personal impression or real. That damn chimney now goes downwards and extra caution is needed (maybe self-belay not amiss). Unlike the Storžič ridge two days ago which was perhaps a symphony, this one here was more cacophony! velik nasmeh But on the way back the Julijci nicely revealed themselves, which were in clouds all the time. Well, and finally I get down from the ridge and descend to the trough at the junction, where I refresh and then via Brvog to the car and to Jesenice for a beer! mežikanje

Yesterday from Erjavčev Rovt to Kepa. Path nicely trodden, so even from the Koritec spring onwards, despite poorer marks, nicely followable. When we rise above the tree line, nice view opens towards Julian Alps. Somehow hidden in fog or clouds was only Jalovec and occasionally Mangart.

To the saddle where the path from Austria joins, we meet only one gentleman already returning and some chamois that avoid us in a wide arc. Otherwise upon arrival at the top, our "Good day" sounds somehow foreign.

Views from the top wonderful, sun warms just enough that we don't feel like going back down. But after a good hour of sitting, we finally head back to the start and from the saddle below Kepa onwards meet no one.

We really experienced a nice and especially peaceful day.

Erjavčev rovt, past the hunting hut, over Gubno to Kepa and then to the cross a few minutes walk a bit lower from the top of Kepa. Snow was just enough that everything was even nicer than if there wasn't any. It didn't hinder walking. Weather clear slightly windy on the ridge. I was early so I saw quite a few chamois. On the return I found three apricots, so no problem for dinner. At the top considerably more Austrians than ours.

Our little group also had a similar tour, only we went first to Kepa to our logbook box, which is without lid, book and full of water, stopped a bit at both crosses and went to Mala Kepa, then over Gubno to the hunting hut to pick mushrooms.. weather was nice, on the ridge windy later on return it got a bit cloudy...nasmeh

Martina, in the wall there was still snow, and wet rocks... so, climbing was off, but the path over the ridge was still quite snowy... if weather favors us, we can still put it in plan.... nasmeh
