Today, 12.12., went to Kepa from Belca direction. Best to park at barrier. Barrier open but snow ahead unsuitable for driving. Start at ramp 7am not too early. Higher up before hut sharp left bend two tracks on road - take left one not straight - straight ends soon. Above hut someone with snowshoes ahead. Thanks. Crossing from hut to Kepa base tiring, snow breaks. But summit part ideal. Where wire and pegs no issue - wire fully out, pegs too. Steep part up without crampons ok (in pack), snow southern just right. No ice. Ice axe useful up and esp down. Demanding fitness. No wind, nice sunset, but darkness caught me below hut. Good almost full moon.

@ploha thanks for the info. Last week from Viševnik looked towards Kepa and wondered when I could visit it first time. Lp

Today, 19.6., set off from Dovje direction to Kepa. First via Borovje and Kurjek to Veliki Kurjek on unmarked but recently well maintained path. From there marked path via Mala Kepa to Kepa. On exposed part pegs, wires and steps in place. No snow. Descent to bivouac. There one peg not essential pulled out. Rockfall danger. In Austria today holiday and day off, so summit quite crowded because of that, but all neighbors from Austrian side. Road from Belca now cleared and drivable to ramp. Cloudy just right, not too hot, nice views, all in bloom.

Sunday a group of five Prekmurje hiking enthusiasts visited Kepa. Got up at 4am and drove through whole Slovenia via Karawanks tunnel to tour start. Chose village Spodnje Rute or parking before abandoned farm as start. From parking path past torrential stream, partly road 380,381 partly forest to hut under Kepa Bertahutte. After good two hours arrived hut drank obligatory tea and headed to Kepa. Path chosen poorly marked for experienced mountaineers who dabble in alpinism. Path exposed ridge, sheer and unprotected. Only faded old marks dots arrows and new staples help. After less than three hours slow careful ascent reached Predvrh with first cross-second cross on summit less 5 min walk. Returned normal hiking path. Definitely recommend Kepa visit to experienced hikers of such paths or natural ferratas with gear helmet harness and rope. The road from Belca was already closed right at the start in the morning with a prohibited traffic sign. Does anyone have more info?

The Belca-Jepca road is still closed, so we headed to Kepa via the path past Erjavčev rovt. The path is without issues, dry, winter gear not needed. Just a bit more attention and caution needed on the northern sections of the via ferratas, there's a little snow and ice there, but too little for crampons and ice axe.

Hi, does anyone know what the path to Kepa is like now? And please, if no one knows a concrete answer, don't throw around silly replies like it's winter and there's snow. Thanks.

I don't know when Karavanke are prettier, now in bloom or in autumn. I headed to Kepa from Erjavčev rovt. Today had to get up earlier due to weather. Cloudless sky accompanied me whole ascent. Reached first real snow a bit below Gubno. For safety went over its top. From there dry and snowy parts alternate to Kepa summit. Due to high temps south snow is soft and sinks well. Crampons stayed in pack. At top wonderful warm weather no wind, stayed over an hour in short sleeves. Then clouded and wind started. Returned via sedlo Mlinca and shepherd hut at Dovška Baba. Lp Miro
