Kokrska and Jezerska Kočna

On Sunday we did this tour, start from Suhadolnik. Path dry, protections except two pulled pitons on the ridge between Kočnas impeccable. Return via Cojzova hut and down the old path to Suhadolnik. Total 12 hours. Anyone interested, more pics on the link:

Yesterday I did the route Suhadolnik-Grdi graben-Kokrska Kočna-Jezerska Kočna-Dolška škrbina-Grdi graben-Suhadolnik. As the two previous wrote, between Kočnas two torn-out pitons, which with extra caution do not complicate the path. The path to Kokrska Kočna is quite crumbly, especially for downhill I wouldn't choose it. Towards D. škrbina the path is at least by my estimate a bit easier, less crumbly and better protected. Between Kočnas the path is well protected. If going the same route, take plenty of fluids as no springs en route (4.5 l sufficed for me but I drank it all in this heat). Regards

24. - 27. 07. 2013. - Hiking in Kamniško Savinjske Alpe => On Wednesday we arrived at Ravenska Kočna and ascended to the Czech hut. Thursday morning via Kremžar path to Jezerska Kočna, from there continued to Kokrska Kočna. Same trail back to Dolška škrbina and via Dolci down to Cojzova hut at Kokrsko sedlo. Friday via Veliki podi up to Skuta. From Skuta down to Mali podi then up to Koroška Rinka (Križ). From Križ down to Kranjska hut at Ledine where we planned to sleep but some things didn't suit us so we continued on Slovenska pot to Czech hut where it was excellent. Saturday longer sleep, long sitting and enjoying in front of the mountain hut. Slowly down to Ravenska Kočna to the car, tourist visit to Planšarsko lake and Miško drives to Slavonija. How nice it was for us in Slovenia see o v d j e.

One question, if the time estimate for Kokrska Kočna (via Jezerska) from Ravenska Kočna is 5h15min, what would be the time estimate for Jezerska Kočna (via Kokrska of course) via the path past the bivouac and over Dolce? Since at Dolška škrbina you can turn left and then up over Dolce?
Which would be by your opinion more suitable for descent?

From Suhadolnik 900m to Jezerska Kočna a bit longer +30min than from Ravenska Kočna parking 1000m. Ascent much nicer via north shady secured Kremžar path, descent preferable straight over Dolška škrbina and Dolce to Kokrsko sedlo, since even ascent to Kočna from Bivak v Kočni quite steep and annoyingly gravelly, let alone descent there. To Ravenska Kočna can also return in a loop via Mlinarsko sedlo and Czech hut.

Thanks for quick reply.
Had the idea to go down to the bivouac and instead of ahead to Kokrsko sedlo then left over Dolce to Škrbina and then left again towards Czech hut, but after what is written I won't go down there. Thanks again, regards

At Dolška škrbina, paths meet. Just wondering @dzuko if you're aware that in your case from the škrbina you must descend to the path coming from Grdi graben, which is quite a substantial descent and then back up past the bivouac? nasmeh Which of the Kočnas is your goal? Then I can advise more easily.

At first I wasn't aware, now I am, so I discarded that variant. nasmeh
Goal is both Kočnas - so the path will be Kremžarjeva to Jezerska, to Kokrska and back the same way.

Today on both Kočnas. Weather ok, views too. Trail is crumbly, but not too demanding. It surprised me that Kremžarjeva path is like it is, since from descriptions I expected something harder.

On Saturday we headed for the Kočna traverse and climbed from Jezersko via Kremžarjeva path to Jezerska Kočna, continued along the ridge to Kokrska Kočna and descended to the bivouac then through Grdi graben and Taško ending at Suhadolnik. The path via Kremžarjevo seemed excellently secured to us, not too demanding if vertigo doesn't affect you, but hard to say that for the traverse from Jezerska to Kokrska Kočna, where protection is very little, the path very demanding and in places very exposed. The descent to the bivouac is also very challenging as it is terribly crumbly and we need real concentration for a safe and reliable step. Difficulties don't end here of course. Through Grdi graben very steep grass awaits us that drops off abruptly, so exceptional care is needed here too. Nicely routed but still somewhat demanding path via Taško brings us to Suhadolnik. The whole path is therefore extremely strenuous, both physically and mentally, as most of it is routed through very difficult terrain where we can't lose concentration. I can't imagine the tour in the opposite direction, as the ascent from Suhadolnik is damn long and strenuous.

More about the path and photos posted at the link: Kočna - traverse up via Kremžarjeva path, down via Grdi graben

Very picturesque pot-bellied passage on the path to the summit of Kočna.1

@joste: I agree with everything, except regarding the securing of the path between both summits, which I think is quite exemplary.

This weekend we're thinking about visiting Jezerska Kočna (start at Ravenska Kočna). Then to Grintovec and back to Češka koča and to the valley. Can someone tell approx how long the path from Kočna to Grintovec takes? Is it sensible to go in the described direction or better reverse? Thanks nasmeh

We did such a tour with a friend last year, but reverse: Ravenska Kočna - Češka Koča - Grintovec via Frischauf path - Jezerska Kočna - Kokrska Kočna - descent via Kremžarjeva path back to Češka koča and Ravenska Kočna.

Really good tour! Sadly, I don't remember how long it took from Grintovec to Kočna, because in the mountains I always forget about time or don't even wear a watch.

One and a half hours, maybe two. The tour is feasible in both directions, I'd perhaps prefer the described direction. But: if doing it in this direction, the biggest problem is the 20-meter unsecured steep gully between Kočna and Grintovec, which you have to downclimb and it's very awkward. If going in reverse, you climb the gully up, which is easier, but on the upper part of Kremžarjeva there are some very awkward and dangerous scrambly spots where the descent is also awkward. Both are doable with care, but I'd recommend the described direction as Frischaufova is overall a bit easier than Kremžarjeva and better for descent.

Maybe someone knows what the conditions are like on the Kremžarjeva path to Jezerska Kočna, is there any snow on the path?

A bit late posting, but anyway nasmeh
On Saturday 19.10. from Suhadolnik across Grdi graben to Kokrska Kočna and then to Jezerska Kočna. Day was ideal for mountains, but for the last cca 20 meters to Jezerska Kočna ice axe needed to make your way, because it was frozen. I didn't have it so wanted to turn back just below summit, but luckily two mountaineers came behind with ice axe and made the path, so I made it to the top too nasmeh On way back, stopped at clearing near bivouac under Kočna where I could sunbathe nasmeh Super weekend!
