@bumslpepe, it's right that you shared the experience with us. Maybe someone will think twice before heading to the high mountains in these festive days. The photos that mountaineers attach to their descriptions are so divine, tempting and maybe too seductive for some. Mountains in winter are a big challenge even for the most experienced.

CONDOLENCES TO HER RELATIVES ALSO FROM MY SIDE But mountains are always unpredictable; even if everything looks so nice, we never know what awaits us, so always keep your wits about you and if there's even a hint of uncertainty, it's better to turn back. Good luck to all

...Ruth - I was rooting for you when you ran across Slovenian peaks, and when you arrived all exhausted at the Spartathlon finish. We met this summer too, when you were returning with the pup in your backpack from Triglav, my sister and I were just climbing up. You said you're building fitness for the toughest challenge, Africa. We didn't know each other personally, but yesterday I immediately knew it was you who got buried. But run your run onward, there among the stars, sorry you're no longer among us! Majda

Last year at the same time the lady doctor died on the way to Kredarica too. Accidents will always happen, be as cautious as you want, nature is almighty over us. We are powerless, it can hit anyone. Safe and sound to all in this remaining year and in 2013.

Dear hikers and lady hikers, does anyone think that misfortune can befall you (that a snow avalanche sweeps you away), that you endanger rescuers who rush to help you? Please do not challenge the fate of rescuers and rescuers' families; rescuers are also just people always ready to help people in distress. On this forum though I read that you even boast about the avalanche sweeping you away and that you saved yourselves. THIS IS NOT A HEROIC DEED; this is baseness.

True, I don't know if it's really so hard to have some common sense and check conditions before... Or with one's own common sense and experience on the spot judge if it's safe to continue or not?

Sadly accidents are part of life too. Sometimes it works out, sometimes not. Neither Ruth nor bumslpepe surely challenged fate on purpose. Both with quite some experience in moving in hills in winter conditions, I'd say. But now talking about challenging GRS fate and common sense ... that seems extremely tasteless and silly to me.

I also don't get why you're going after bumslpepe. Instead of comfortably keeping quiet, he basically put himself out there up here to warn others of the danger. Now you're self-righteously judging him for something he already said himself wasn't right.

Accidents do happen. No one goes into the mountains intending to be imprudent and endanger self and others. Ruth was a kind and warm person; let's keep her in such memory. As they used to say: "after the battle it's easy to be a general"

bumslpepe Nice that you shared this with others. Snow anyway hasn't fallen so much that someone might think something like that could happen. But the risk is always there and an avalanche has buried many more experienced or the most experienced, who probably studied all variants. Therefore it seems inappropriate to point the finger at someone in these tragic moments. Ruth rest in peace
