They say the hut will be open the first five days in May and I'm wondering if anyone has been around there in the last few days? How is the path? Maybe someone from those parts, how much snow do you still have?

I was on Krn from Lake Krn, 25.4. Nice day - only sun, blue sky. Be aware that despite warm weather in the valley, you are entering snow conditions. To half the path from Lepena to the lake no snow, then snow conditions increase with every meter of height. At the hut still cca 2 m snow. In the early morning no sinking and crampons needed even on path to Krn, on return around noon warm, watery and sinking to ri... So, from upper pasture to upper cable station needed snowshoes.
From Lepena to hut no crampons nor snowshoes needed - if higher be equipped accordingly.

There was a whole bunch of us from Friday to Sunday . Some even slept in the bivouac.
Hikers had a safe winter mountaineering course, alpinists had final exams plus some other groups.
Up to the cable car it's good, then it sinks a bit. It's trodden to Bogatinsko sedlo and further towards Komna (some came from Komna to the saddle) and as far as I saw also to the lake.

Today we visited Krn Lake, still lots of snow, at gauge 250cm. Snow starts at 950m asl. Snow doesn't sink in even in the afternoon; it was quite pleasant. Beautiful warm day at the lake, temperature 18 degrees.

On Saturday they were normal for this time. If you look at picture 4 from the previous post, now you see the number 80 on the snow gauge. Otherwise, the compacted snow cover starts cca 50 m below the upper cable car station.

In picture 22 you caught part of the winter constellation Orion! How does that song go: in a thousand years, when we're no longer here..., only Orion will shine in the sky..
