The group's behavior in the photos is, mildly put, irresponsible. You can be a hero, but more likely injured.

Why is it so hard to take ice axe and crampons!!

If everything goes fine you're a herorolling eyes, otherwise you can be a scratched fool or even worse... I'm tired of questions for example for Kopiščarjeva: how many snow patches and do you need winter gear? What connection with safe ascent does how many snow patches have?
One is enough at an awkward spot and just a few meters wide. On top of that such questions are asked mostly by those who don't even know how to use the proper gear.

mirank - people go to mountains also those who don't go in winter time (consequently don't have winter gear), so they wonder if there is any snow patch and if winter gear is needed. To me the question seems appropriate, because I understand the question and also "who" is asking it.

rolling eyesEven more unusual than the questions that are more a result of lack of experience are posts of hikers on the forum without their permission.

"everyone" posts selfies 1000/day, then someone is bothered if someone posts a picture they're intentionally or unintentionally on? ahahaha

If you don't distinguish between a selfie and posting a picture of a passerby... Some think they can do everything.

this pic is a nice depiction of stupid behavior and also instructive.

Regarding posting, nothing controversial either - who should the poster ask? It's taken so far away you can't prove you're on it even if you know you were there?! It just looks like seven clowns convincing themselves they have enough balls* to risk the critical spot without gear.

4.7.2018 mirank - people go to mountains who don't go in winter (thus no winter gear), so they're interested if there's any snow patch and if winter gear is needed. Seems right question to me as I get the question and also "who" asks it.

Couldn't agree more. Really don't know what's the problem asking about conditions in hills. Safer to go blind or what?

According to my info, photo posting is not controversial and some are unnecessarily upset. Namely:
- taken in a public place from a public access spot, so no privacy expectation
- posting non-commercial
- on the post can't or very hard to recognize people

Let some photographer or better lawyer say.

Questions about conditions (snow patches) are totally appropriate!!!
Photo posting in this case is not under the Criminal Code!!!

I wasn't even remotely thinking of laws and everything related to them. We have enough of that in the valley already. Here it's mainly about the attitude towards those whom the mountains connect us with.

Probably each of us has some "controversial" photos, let them post their own if they want to highlight some "weird" situation on the terrain.
Photos about current conditions should be "empty", the response "full", without unnecessary "messing around".

Apparently only lawyers and individuals stuffed with paragraphs will be able to post photos without fear. The rest will only be able to post "empty" photos or flowers. Jesus, Jesus! I hope I'm not already in the area of some controversial article. big grin

I really don't know what the problem is with the photos posted above? The shots are heavily zoomed, blurry, people cannot be recognized, not even how many men and women for sure, nor their number...I'm sure from a criminal law perspective it's no intrusion into privacy, let alone photographing passers-by. Drapr, as a mountaineer I respect you, I regularly check your contributions, but in this case you won't convince me. I've posted many similar photos in the past and I will continue, especially ones like these two, which show a somewhat careless approach to the starting point, but tell, or show, a lot of useful things. lp

Questions about snow patches are completely in place and one of the more important data on current conditions. If there are no more snow patches, you don't need winter gear and the backpack is lighter. If they are still present, you take the gear with you, I don't know where the problem is, every normal person is happy for such info, who wants adventure doesn't need to read reports anyway.

Obviously for this access gear is still needed, and even with it probably not the easiest to scramble over.

Useful or not useful, it's annoying and inappropriate. Why don't you post your own photos? Lino probably doesn't have them or is just shy.

This didn't appear now, in the internet age, already in the past some photographed poor people in mountainous areas by placing someone behind them and capturing everyone with the photo. Otherwise they would have had problems. I opposed it even then.

Now a photo is posted, and at the same time a spitting contest or public mudslinging of someone we don't even know. Let alone their abilities.
I've always reacted to this and I will now too.
Everyone has the opportunity to write a book about dangers in the mountains, about walking and climbing techniques,..., and publish photos. Ask someone who knows about it and they'll tell you what the procedure is to publish such a photo that serves as a bad example.

I think you're no longer thinking just of those two or three pics, but now speaking generally about unauthorized filming issue...Those pics are still unobtrusive and fully appropriate for me. With little effort you can check my pics I don't hide them, nor hide behind pseudonym. Over 2000 of them.
With this I end my discussion. Good luck ahead in mountains.
