The path from Sviščaki to Snežnik is quite rutted. The upper part is completely icy, so crampons are necessary for the last 45min.

On Snežnik, skiing from Sviščaki along the hiking trail is the worst choice. The traverse from the hut to the ridge is often icy and yesterday some almost fell. Some poles flew into the basin below the hut, the owner managed to hold on. A snowboarder fared the worst, who tried to cross this traverse and due to his own mistake or inexperience slipped and ended up on the plain below in a couple of seconds. Luckily there's really a lot of snow and the terrain is mostly smoothed out, so he got up and rode towards Sviščaki.
We skied the southern side, where there's mostly wind-blown snow, just a bit of ice that's easy to cross. From the forest edge ascent to Mali Snežnik and from there west through forest and clearings to Grda draga. From Grda draga it's a short walk along the road to the car at Sviščaki.

The variant to Grda draga via Mali Snežnik has deep chasms, cliffs or jumps in several places.

My friend and I also turned back below the summit. Didn't dare go further just with snowshoes, and even with ice axe, if I had it, would need to react fast if slipped on the summit icy slope. Otherwise nice day and decent skiing. Though we were quiet on ascent, our path didn't cross bear nor Lisica

I'd be very grateful for info on drivability to Snežnik start with summer tires. Maybe someone knows if there's still snow below? Thinking of start from Sviščaki.

On Monday the road was normally drivable and probably still is given it rained.

Snežnik, 08.04.2018. Still lots of snow, last 20 min recommend at least mini crampons. Windy at top, otherwise clear, 0°C. Lots of ski tourers. Hut open.

Snežnik 22.4. Set myself a bit different ascent. Started walking pri Grdi Dragi, or actually some six km before cuz tree on road. Path through forest. Higher in snow, then scrub. Nice. Top windy but pleasantly warm. Gaiters handy today where snow. Descended same path. Had time so drove that macadam thru Leskovo valley to Cerknica turn at Uncu to highway. Nice places, visit so rarely.

In Ilirska Bistrica turned towards Knežak. Then drove to Mašun and further on road as far as possible. About 5km walk on road to sign on last pic. There marked path to Snežnik I took. Bit careful in forest for marks, higher snow well trodden. Where scrub all dry. Then no trouble to top. First time this side. Interesting. Road not best condition. Some potholes. My ESP engaged, have to drive car with it off. lp

From Sviščaki still some snow mostly bearing weight. Return mostly dry road.
Road to Sviščaki somewhat fixed.
