From today to end of August hut on Snežnik open daily. Roads Ilirska Bistrica - Sviščaki and Mašun - Sviščaki normally drivable. Closure for forestry works only from Snežnik castle direction.

I visited Snežnik on Sunday. I started at Kapetanova bajta. The sun beat down hard the whole way. Lots of people everywhere as always on weekends. I ate very good figs in chocolate in the hut.

This weekend 22. and 23.12. the Snežnik Hut will be open, during Christmas holidays 24. and 25.12. CLOSED and then reopened on 26.12.

Currently there is 30 cm of snow on Snežnik, in places a bit more or less due to wind. The path is currently trampled and with good gojzarji that provide good grip even on slightly slippery spots, normally passable. Crampons are definitely mandatory equipment on Snežnik in winter, as the summit part can quickly become icy.
In winter, access is only possible from Sviščaki, the only plowed road is from Ilirska Bistrica.

The hut is open every day from 26 December to 2 January.

Today's ascent offered very pleasant weather conditions with exceptional views all the way from Kvarner, Učka, Nanos, Julian to Kamnik-Savinja Alps and further east. Path very trodden, but snow for this time very little. Windy only from the valley just before the last ascent to Draga Karolina hut. I descended via Mali Snežnik.

Has anyone gone up from Sviščaki in the last days? Is the road to Sviščaki OK? Hiking conditions probably not problematic, probably trodden too, I think? Small crampons under the summit?

I haven't been around this area lately, so someone else will report firsthand, but still I'd add that in my experience the road to Sviščaki is always exemplary plowed and drivable and even in much harsher winters I've always been able to get up with a normal city car.

Hi. Has anyone been on Snežnik these days? Are crampons needed towards the summit? LP

Small crampons are quite sufficient, even those will be unnecessary for most of the route

Currently, the midday temperature on Snežnik is above zero every day. Snow softens, refreezes in the evening and at night. The need for crampons is quite unpredictable, definitely keep them in the backpack to put on if needed nasmeh

Snežnik 20. 2. Today it was in the sun all day. And warmth. We needed crampons for ascent and descent. At the hut very calm and warm. We sat outside for quite a while. Sadly the bivouac interior is in poor condition and lots of trash inside. Otherwise saw no one except one skier just ascending as we descended.

Snežnik was lagging behind from all the peaks I've climbed recently, so it was just a question of time until his turn. I realized that almost 17 years have passed since the last, only ascent.
It didn't stay in my memory as a peak that attracts and needs to be climbed multiple times. Well, since Sunday I don't think so anymorenasmeh.

Wonderful views already on the path, from when you ascend from the forest towards Mali Snežnik and then first direct your gaze towards his Big Brother, who majestically rises before you. Over the summit we descended via another path, which joins the previous one right there where on the ascent you head towards Mali. That part was almost untouched in the morning, in the shade, we followed only some old snowshoe tracks. Unfairly M. Snežnik is neglected, on Sunday we saw no one who climbed to the summit via it.

On the way back we also visited Petelinjsko Lake, which adorns the appearance of Sv. Trojica looming above it. All the way there we could admire the snowy peak of Snežnik, which rises very picturesquely there on the edge above Pivška kotlina.

Really nice, in this combination surely even nicer! I'm convinced that winter time is when Snežnik shines the mostnasmeh.

Yesterday on Snežnik. Sadly picked wrong week for this hike.
Below path slightly icy, towards top "trampled" snow, so crampons excellent aid velik nasmeh
At top visibility "top-notch" :P (about 3 meters, I'd say) blowing like mad, rain nicely "washed" us, hut unfortunately closed.
