Mali Golak

Mali Golak today wasn't friendly with views at all, as there were none. At least when I was up there. It was also cold and windy. Still, lots of hikers went up today. They were searching for one hiker who got lost, no signal there. Hope they found him. Hut is open with lots of visitors.

I also decided for Kucelj which was the closest

So far visited only Mali Golak. Sunday we went to all three. First Veliki Golak, then Srednji and last Mali Golak. Couple hours walking to do all three. Hikers only on Mali Golak. On other two met only one. Windy nice sunny weather. Cold some places. Julian Alps nice from all three Golaks and sea too.

The path leads through the forest where you might encounter a bear

That's how September Sunday Mali Golak was. Went to top after lunch anyway. Hoped clouds disperse and sun shows on top, but no power.

long ago there was a glacial valley here

quite muddy before the hut. They were dragging sawn logs.

We had to bring an umbrella. But there was no rain.

on the descent there is a junction leading to middle and highest Golak

Today on Mali Golak. Conditions very good, only on top windy and very cold. Gaz made!! Friendly service in hut! velik nasmeh

On the penultimate December day we did all three Golaks. The last was the highest. We descended the steep slope but instead of to the hut we climbed Mali Golak again and descended to the hut. For all three Golaks 12-point crampons are mandatory, because there is ice under the new snow and you can slip on the steep slope. Temp today around -3. SE wind. Lots of snow. Hikers too.

I put on crampons since we still had a lot of walking ahead.

but the snow hadn't bonded to the ground.

We push through the forest. Snow falls on our necks from the branches.

Yesterday on Mali Golak from Predmeja. Track is made. There is quite some snow below the summit, snow was soft, no crampons used. Summit views phenomenal.

When returning, decided on another track to Srednji Golak.
Very few visitors yesterday.

That's what today's daytime visit to Mali Golak was like. Nice, clear weather. The road we walked on was frozen. Path to the hut too. Hut full of hikers, so we continued to the top. There the snow was fine for walking without winter gear. Windy at the top and nice views. We descended the same path to the starting point in Predmeja.

clouds were gathering over the mountains.

Krn was without clouds, Triglav in clouds.

Yes, today's Mali Golak was really winter-colored. In white. In the morning a larger group went and made a track. Such that you could walk on it without winter gear. Since I arrived in Predmeja after twelve, there wasn't even one parking spot. So I drove further towards Kovk and found a spot for the car there. A bit more walking, no problem. I had crampons in my backpack - you never know, but didn't need them. More gaiters and poles. I met some hikers who were already descending. Some with snowshoes, others without like me. No wind up to the top. At the top cold and windy. Around minus three. From the top I went down to the hut, which was open. Lots of visitors today, as the day was really nice.

Today I decide for Mali Golak again. On the path a few cm of fresh snow on quite some base, path trodden, cloudy weather and drizzling, and "pulling" at the start. When you reach the ridge the bora starts and towards the top it blows stronger and stronger, at the top over 100km/h, real Siberia. In the hut with friendly service we warm up and then back to the valley, interesting frost experience!! velik nasmeh

Today's Mali Golak on 4.3. was cloudless. Ascent from Predmeja for a while on the road. Then on the track past the hut to the top. Not sinking at all, because the track was packed. Warm. And at the top no wind.

and we had to make way for a passing car.

there were some skiers and snowboarders.

Descent will have to be by the same path, although the track on srednji Golak was visible.

Yesterday really a beautiful day for first visit to now snow-covered Mali Golak. I was captivated by beauty of this modest peak by height and beauty of view, which was yesterday vast and distant. Ascent from Tiha Valley, return past hut-circular path.
Impression on top was enhanced also by GITA and Matija, who conquered peak on skis and thus aroused longing for them nasmeh

Darinka, we really mentioned you, because you go regularly to this peak and somehow expected that maybe you could appear from somewhere. And I think we really met then just above hut mežikanje
