Garmont, I also envy you that trip. You three described the descent well too.
Now I just need to head out on the path. Been carrying the descriptions in the car for 3 months.
But seeing this, it kinda upsets me, as there might be no more opportunities this year. zadrega

Garmont, remember how once at Igla with Milan we "analyzed" these paths?
- lower
- middle
- upper
and then also this ridge path to Matkovo sedlo.
In October Milan and I went to sort it out on terrain. Started at the barrier and traversed to the bend above which you go left where middle path starts/ends. Then found right branch and ridge path to Matkovo sedlo. Exit at ruined hut or boundary stone with number on board. Then along ridge to Matkova kopa. Instead of descending upper path, we went into the wall. Milan claimed that's the upper path.
Beginning has path traces (game trails IMO), then traces vanish. Need to search passages and some climbing not over II. Orientation is the real issue..
We exited scree past Kopa summit (your pic 4 Garmont). Descended gullies to path in Matkova krnica. Return on lower path in the corner.
Later analysis: Milan missed branch of middle/upper. Always returned on middle.
What we traversed he took for upper. He crossed it years ago (roughly like we repeated).
Advantage of traverse: ignore some brush/climbing = no height loss, don't drop as deep as path.
Thus clarified Matk paths on site.

We parked a bit lower down so we wouldn't have so far to go on the way back.

Here this path ends. The number (219) on the sign is the number of the boundary stone on the ridge.

The start of our crossing still has path elements at first, then it all ends...

Here we had trouble finding the way ahead. We had to climb into the wall.

Here we ended the lower path. Now to the ramp where we parked.

Red is ours, or rather Milan's upper path.

I took the "upper" path as the one leading under Jerebičje, then left towards Matkovo sedlo. zmeden

From Matkova krnica it splits: One arm (middle) descends into gully with the power cable.
Other arm (upper) climbs past salt lick to ridge then to Matkovo sedlo, Jerebičje.
That red line we did with Milan I think isn't a path. Advantage: don't drop so low, arrive below Kopa summit.

In my view we should ask Matk about his paths. mežikanje

I see upper as starting at first clear right bend above Matk, to Jevševec (hut) continues bit on ridge then left down past salt lick to junction with middle. Both end in Matkova krnica like lower.
As probably old shepherds paths, only logical.

Today I enjoyed its slopes, whiteness, trailbreaking, scrambling dry rock to the summit...
Barely reached Matkova krnica without gear (snowshoes). Among those pines I doubt they'd help much for ascent. Above krnica better conditions, upper part almost bare.
Returned via middle path, as usual very snowy. Always soft snow! Ideal for descent, not for ascent. Lower middle turned shortcut to valley as usual.
In the valley even the sun came out, nicely ending the day, a soul day.

Then along the little path towards Matkova krnica.

At approx. 1300m there is already quite a bit of snow.

Transition into Matkovo krnica, classic shot by the trunk.

Here below I thought of shortening the path via some gully. Good that I didn't, because the drops in between are muddy.

Gully towards the summit, as if there were no winter here.

In the upper steep section very little snow, because this side faces south.

It rumbled a few times, as if thundering.

But avalanches know where to head. To Škaf!

Usually it's the opposite. Namely, that it's dark at Kamniško sedlo.

Here I turn from the middle path into the valley.

Latvica another time, in better conditions.

I'm reliving your tour that's still waiting for me (in winter conditions, of course). Times are strange, so I'm resting ...
I fell in love with Matkova Kopa at first sight from Žibovt. I hope my health holds when it calls again.

Lijaneja, why comparisons? Matkova Kopa attracts all the heartfelt ones.

The Kopa always surprises me and today was no different. mežikanje

First we missed the passage through the gully on the upper path mrk pogled

, then because of that completely pathless to Matkovo sedlo. Steep and steep again. mrk pogled

Later we caught the upper path, to the top of Kopa we climbed from the Austrian side. Up the gully to the top of the ridge, over it and then to the summit.
Descent via the lower path to Kot. In Kot beautiful lady's slippers are blooming, and viewing them has of course beautified today's demanding tour. nasmeh

Tone, you won't believe it, first time in Matkov Kot was in 2009!
In "young" years you couldn't even go there without control. That's why I go more often now, but geppo, JTrogar, Volk, Aonuk1 and others are even more at home there (check the first pages of this thread). mežikanje

Today's ascent wasn't intended as some response to what Drago wrote above. velik nasmeh

It was planned at the beginning of the week. But some canceled the Saturday ascent via the "normal" route due to forecast thunderstorms in the afternoon. Fair enough, it would be unpleasant if a storm caught us on the way. But we "locals" bet that the thunderstorm wouldn't be carried over Mrzla gora above Matkova. Which turned out to be correct. When we were returning it was raining in the Raduha area.
We climbed along the ridge to Matkovo sedlo (219 boundary stone). Along the ridge towards Matkova. Then descended to the tooth and traversed under the wall via Milan's variant. I think part of Volk's variant from 4.6.2015. Just that we didn't go as far along the ridge as described. Instead we went up the gully to the top before. Not too demanding.
From the summit we descended via approach gullies to the upper path. Traversed to the krnica, refreshed at the spring and descended via the chain path. Crossed numerous gullies and after cck in 7h 30min finished at the starting point.

When you know you're going with two experts of these areas, there are no second thoughts at all... it was an easy YES velik nasmeh

Regarding the course of our tour, it's hard to add anything since Geppo described it all nicely. I'm thrilled with the "path", but it requires demanding orientation, especially since there are quite a few trails and paths that would mislead me quickly... otherwise the passages, especially in the part above Matkovo sedlo are really originally laid out, although sometimes I caught myself thinking, man, where are we going here zmeden

hehe and from afar some gully looks scary, but when you're in it, everything is "climbable and walkable", of course with a lot of caution, since everything is very crumbly and to take away eek

. We did a circular tour and since the weather still has the first and last word anyway, especially higher up, I earned my first snack in Krnica jezik

and got back a liter of liquid that I so carefully gave before the ascent cool

The views held up, so did the weather and despite making a nice loop today, ufff, we'll have to come back, since there's a lot of work here too...
