zvis... you can check the info on Montaz conditions a few posts back... that's the latest info. I take your question as your notice that you're heading to Montaz and informing everyone on this forum! Safe trip and safe return!

I did read the posts but see opinions are divided. Some mention snow and quite a bit of it, others say not much. If weather doesn't worsen I'll definitely go up.

@zvis, is it so hard to put crampons in the backpack and strap on the ice axe? If you'll need any of it you'll be glad to have it with you, if not you'll be even happier because the path is dry.

As I saw from others' photos, the path to Montaž to the ladder is not yet dry. More will be said by someone else who walked there.

you have to cross some short snowfields ..under the ladder there's a bit larger snowfield that can't be avoided, as far as I know.. we met people without any gear...but it's good to have at least ice axe, crampons aren't extra either...that's my opinion and safe steps

Hummell gets the rockets, Matevz conquers top of Montaz. Everything fits Little joke. Bravo and congrats, namesake. And I wish you many more such feats, don't forget the camera at home. Good luck!

I agree... super pics and little video with EXCELLENT music!!! I was on Montaz in 2010, in the 8th month, no snow, just awful fog on top, so we saw nothing! Regards!!

Hello, Request info on passability of path over Findeneggov ozebnik (any snow patches on path, winter gear needed)?

Yesterday from Zajezera via Amalia. Protections impeccable, a couple of small snow patches on the path. Recommend ice axe. Path through Findeneggov ozebnik dry.

Today didn't repeat previous day's mistake and 20 min before 6 already at Pecol parking. Met a couple of hikers from east side of Julians there, similar plans so ascended together to Špik hude police. From there on separately, but same goal -Montaž, met again at summit. Quick handshake then to valley.

Pecol yesterday quite smoky, because a bit further there's a big forest fire and the wind carries smoke and scorched leaves all the way to the Vrh Strmali notch and even higher into the rocks. Past the Suringar bivouac into the Findenegg ice field, which is real climbing (up to II apparently) and absolutely without protection. Back is easier via Pipan's ladder. Ibex defend their territory and can be dangerous doing so. Despite caution, a dislodged stone hit me in the face like that.

Rather than ibex being dangerous and defending their territory, they unintentionally dislodge some stone with all their skills . By the way, an ibex doesn't know what "dislodged stone" means and what danger it can pose to say a human . Supposedly up to II., but no serious II in my opinion there... Otherwise nice tour, congrats. And that sentence that we're just visitors there holds so true! Best!
