Apparently they still haven't put out the fire in Reklanska Valley...

No, they haven't yet, several hills have already burned, yesterday saw it live from Montaža... They said it's burning for 26 days already!

Is it safe to go to Montaž then? I'm planning, namely...

Can someone tell where the fire is, east or west of Pecola?

As far as I've googled a bit, obviously no media at home has published anything about this fire. I see nothing else but the talk about it on hribi.net. I think little Slovene is burning a few kms across the border but knows nothing about it.

On 22.7 I was at Bila peč and it was already burning. It looked like they would control the fire but unfortunately they failed. So the wildest part of Western Julians burned which will change the look forever. Some of us had luck that we visited peaks and cols there purposely for years as now it won't be possible for long. @VanSims we know about the Posočje fire, no worry.

We have so many smaller fires, but they are reported only in local newspapers or websites. Also because of that I don't know why our media would report on a fire of some so-called "vuk...ne" in the Western Julians. It's too remote even for Italian media, let alone ours... But I agree with Igor: such remote peaks, such wildly romantic world you won't find anywhere else in the Julians...

On Sunday we thought of going to Montaž. Is it at all sensible/safe to go there with these fires?

That's quite far from Montaž, I think it won't reach there. Plus there'll be north wind, so no smoke either.

The fire was yesterday below Pizzo Viene, to what extent last night's rain softened it I don't know, but firefighters from Austrian Carinthia came to help, who made a clearing ahead of the Montaž high plateau, to protect the huts. Namely cattle can't be evacuated that quickly, since it's over 300 head, most from the Iron Valley and Friulian lowland. Undoubtedly the wonderful CAI 621 is off-limits for now (Although there was a similar fire - over 1000 ha - on the same slope back in 1972).

Well, some biomass accumulated over decades will burn, sooner or later it goes to ash anyway. In 2003 in Bohinj it burned for two weeks straight above Komarča and no one across the border cared about it. We just went hiking elsewhere since there are so many that no one has traversed them all. There was talk of I-don't-know-what consequences and damage, now you can't even see where it burned anymore. I think many people act on such events in the style of that worn-out phrase at every big hail or wind - that even the oldest don't remember anything like it. As if we're all ten-year-olds

I'm wondering how much snow is still blocking access to Montaž from the north? Yesterday I watched it from sv. Višarje and the snow patches looked pretty common even at fairly low elevation. For the fire, hope the neighbors manage to put it out ASAP.

Yesterday the path through Reklanica was closed, same for Pecol, it was burning already below Zabuš, which is pretty close to Pecol. Don't know about the north side.
